A fun and simple game, but sometimes perhaps too simple sometimes. Also sometimes it feels as though some of the things you have to research are arbitrary and only exist to gate progression (looking at you sequels.) The topic system is also kind of weird. But, as mentioned, it is a fun little game and not very expensive. Worth the price, especially on sale.

cons
hard at first but every game is hard at first

To win the game you need to increase game score steadily with each game.
You also need to score the perfect mix of design and tech points.

You need to do both of these things using a system that hides all of the number values from them player while designing the game.

It kinda ruins the fun to have to be so exact with everything (and look up all the values on the wiki) and while I have completed the game I have also failed on multiple follow up runs.
There is a new game plus mode which carries over things you've 'learnt' from the previous games but in doing so it robs you of the 'new combo' bonus so actually makes the game harder.

The game has a lot of charm but is ruined by it's demand for technical perfection without providing all of the info to the player to make an informed decision.

In Year 33 I released an Action Medieval MMO on Pc and consoles. It takes my company from 90 millions to 350 millions in 1 Year. I make new game. Oops, my MMO cost 4,5 millions a month to maintain. I make an expansion and make my money back. I make a new game, it's a moderate success. Well I still have WHERE DID ALL THE MONEY GO??????? I'm back at 90 millions and my MMO costs 9 millions a month now. I try to make another expansion but go bancrupt.

Went from riches to bancrupt in 6 minutes. 8/10

First of all:

This is gonna be my first ever review with pros and cons. Before i start (i'll say this - Sorry for my bad english grammar, if it was bad).

This game is awesome! I never ever even imagined. That i gonna like a game like this. But i really did!

Review:

First of all, you start playing this game knowing nothing or something. If you know something (from watching someone streaming this game on twitch or simply watching a gameplay on youtube). Then this game becomes easier to play a little bit. However if you wanna play and finish this game in 6-15-ish hours then you gonna have to use tips and advices something like this link to stats about what genres works best with what tpye of game. http://images.wikia.com/gamedevtycoon/images/3/3d/OldPercent.png
If you wanna take it easy and simply have fun with this game, then don't use any help from wikia/youtube nor twitch.

Pros:

+ Fun (first starting area is fun, secondly is also fun but then you already know your goals and last area is awesome!)
+ Addictive (awesome and fun, you simply can't exit from this game without making one more game or game's engin)
+ Replayability is almost infinite (since sooner or latter you gonna get a bit bored)
+ There are so many options for genres (more than 50).

Cons:

- Addictive This is a con and a huge plus at the same time! Because you can't exit from this game when you want. Most of the time (as i mentioned above in pros section), after some time you start getting that one more turn/one more game mentality. Which is in my personal opinion positive and negative thing at the same time. :D
- There is no option to pay bill for bank if you borrow some money from it. It's comes whenever and takes from you money. Even thought you were almost finishing making a game which could be (maybe not) a game with high scores.
- Fill position, there is no way of knowing that you can hire more than one person. At first i thought that if you press fill position button it's gonna replace current worker. But it's turns out no! You click on this: Fill position and you can pick another worker. This should be mentioned in a game.
- 3 stages/places where you work at. Would be awesome if there was at least 5 or more of them.

In the end: If you gonna see it on sale. Then buy it, even if you are not sure if you gonna like this type of game (since i thought i not gonna enjoy a game like that, but i was wrong on so many different levels)! Otherwise: Still buy it, but first check some gameplay if you are into this type of games or not.

A fun little game, but with horrible balancing mechanics that only become apparent after several hours. You might not even notice that though.

It’s relatively cheap, and it makes for one or two fun playthroughs. Three and a half star.

How on earth did I put 100 hours into this game......

Easy. Making millions of Call of Duty games to see how long it takes for the community to stop buying it. The answer is never.

Started a company called "Adam Sandler Games Inc".
Released a game called "you don't mess with the zohan".
The game got 5/10 on reviews (which is the same rank the actual movie got on IMDb).
went bankrupt.
10/10 would mess with the zohan again.

Nearly went bankrupt developing games for the Dreamcast. Spent every last penny I had on a new high tech engine and a zombie survival game. Released it with many bugs and still made bank.

10/10, would scam millions again

"This game is absolutely stunning!"
- me

No. Seriously.
Besides of bringing a semi-fictional brief history of game development, this game provides you to live through the challenges of being a game developer in different eras. It is so much fun to experiment and discover what combination of game genre, platform and target audience is appreciated by the gamers. Your own experiences and insight sometimes proove you right, but sometimes they can get your company almost bankrupt.

It also gives a very optimistic sneak peek of how an indie game developer's life is.

REVIEW FOR GAME DEV TYCOON:
Game Dev Tycoon is a game I really wanted when I played it as a kid. So very recently, I've got myself my first Steam Acount and played only Level 1 of this game. So was the game good as I remembered it when I played the DEMO or a waste of time?
Sounds:
So the music sounds okay. I can hum a few tones from the game. 6/10
Gameplay:
So this is a business tycoon game. A really popular concept. Now I've heard that there is another Game Dev Game, but I think that this game is better. Plus I'd never played the other one people talk about. You are going around making games and getting fans and money. And if you make a hit game, you may get an office. Now I haven't played the office yet, but holy crap is this game fun.

It also makes you think sometimes. If I had a few flaws, when you start the game you may get a white screen unless you clear the cache or something. Also it is pretty hard to come up with some ideas but that is a realsitc concept so maybe I am bashing it for what it is. The games really fun and I think you should play it! 8/10
Story:
The Story is just epic. While I don't think younger gamers would really understand it (unless they look in the history books), it well be faithful to some gamers. Due to copyright issues they changed the company's names but you can get an easter egg if you type one of the Offical Names. I hope it gets better! 9/10
Graphics:
They look pretty darn good. They look very smooth and maybe a little generic but I don't have a lot of complaints. 7/10
Replay?:
This game is something that you may play a few times after 43 years in the game. It could be very fun to create a ton of games. And maybe you would like story. Just to be fair I will give Replay: 7/10
Is this game Good?:
Yes it is! It is a game that I think every video gamer should play unless they hate tycoon business games. It is fun and faithful to gaming. I'll give this game 8/10 A must buy!

Game Dev Tycoon is a fun and cute game, and I really enjoyed my two playthroughs. I will recommend it to anyone that likes simulation management games. The game is summed up well in the descriptions, so this review will more be my experience with the game and nitpicks.

I haven't fully figured out why some of my games fail, even though they were a great combination, and others just explode on the market. Which lead to me doing significantly worse during my second playthrough. The bank lending me money at least once during almost every stage of the game, but it was actually a bit funnier and more challenging when I constantly fluctuated between hits and failures.

The last phase was way to easy on my first playthrough, because I had no specialists in my team, so I didn't go into the labs. But even though spending money on discovering things in the lab and building consoles made it more challenging, it made it way more fun, and on my last years of my second playthrough I had the second generation of my console out and a hit MMORPG.

The reviewers in the game can be jerks. On my first playthrough I made a lot of hit games, and there were constantly two of them that switched between giving me 9, so I got 9.75 instead of perfect ten. Felt like they were just trying to keep me from getting the achievement. :( And like I said, I got worse at the game the second time, so I'm probably never gonna get that achievement.

There is a lot in the game, but it never gets too complex to manage. The game that comes closest to the same experience of playing for me is probably the sims series. Where you just keep playing and there is so much to do, and a lot of minor variables, but it is all easily presented and managable. However... It suffers from the same problem that the main Sims games have for, which is that there are no natural "exit points" no real quests, so it can be hard to stop before you reach the end and can lead to game burnout eventurally. (I know sims doesn't have an end, but this game kinda has one where you get your end score) You could argue every time you finish a game within the game it is an exit, but then you get the reviews, then it goes on the market, and while it is on the market or before it gets reviewed you put your team on the task of developing, reaching, or training something else. So there is no place where the game feels like it is a natural place to take a break I would love if they make a sequel or spinoff game where they include some kind of quests or in game objectives beyond the achievements.

But it is still a topranking simulation game, and I am glad I bought it. 9.75/10
