About This Game

In Game Dev Tycoon you replay the history of the gaming industry by starting your own video game development company in the 80s. Create best selling games. Research new technologies and invent new game types. Become the leader of the market and gain worldwide fans.

A journey through gaming history

Start in the 80s
Start your adventure in a small garage office in the 80s. Enjoy the hand-crafted level design while you develop your first simple games. Gain experience, unlock new options and create your first game engine.

Create games your way
In Game Dev Tycoon the decisions you make during development really matter. Decide which areas you want to focus on. Does your game need more gameplay or should you focus more on quests? These decisions will have a major impact on the success of your game.

Grow your company
Once you have successfully released a few games you can move into your own office and forge a world-class development team. Hire staff, train them and unlock new options.

Make larger more complex games
With experience and a good team, you can release larger, more complex games. Larger games bring new challenges and you will have to manage your team well to deliver hit games.

Must Buy Game

This game will pass your time somehow casualy. In GDT you can create a game, an engine and in late stages of the game you can also create your own console. This game provides fun with challenge and lets you create games with tens of topics, 5 generes, tons of engine options and as you like.

Pros:
  • The graphic is nice to the eye. It is not fancy or with high quality 3D but it serves the game (as it should be).
  • Tons of options. You have a lot of topics, a lot of combinations and a lot of options in engines and research.
  • The easter eggs are funny and remind many of the old games throughout the game.
  • Modding is easy and there are tons of mods in the Steam Workshop.

Cons:
  • Too short, and after you get to a certain point you have no real challenge.
  • The game has no more updates (at least as I know). I think that updates could help the game.

Game Dev Tycoon may be long winded but it definately is fun! You can develop your very own games (hence the title) and become a millionaire, I recommend it to anyone!

I was initially really interest in playing this game, especially because of how they managed to troll people who pirated it. Once I had gone through a few careers, however, the novelty wore off, but I still kept trying to like it. The novelty seems to have worn off for the developer as well, because the interface feels very sloppy, years after release.

While the early game is fairly intuitive, it becomes increasingly less so, with little to no guidance along the way. The training of employees, for instance, becomes a tedious balancing act, but completely necessary as later games demand increased development points, and the salary increases as employees level up makes it untenable to keep employees at their base levels. Installing a mod to allow for some level of improvement from the hands-on process of making games corrects this to a degree, but why would someone else have to come up with that element? You will also want to pick up mods to allow you to speed up events like the game conference and the like. Things like this all compound to make it feel like Greenheart Games hasn't perfect their own slider mechanic either.

It is also an extremely buggy game, with the mouse clicking straight through buttons on one window and hitting elements behind it regularly. The movement between the main screen and the others (R&D and the Hardware Lab) is also inconsistent and annoying.

Because of all of these issues I wouldn't recommend this game unless they made a solid update for it, but after almost 3 years on the market I think it's safe to say that they will not be correcting anything at all.

Very fun. I absolutely love this game and its definately worth picking up. The graphics are nice and tidy. Gameplay is quite fun with decent amounts of strategy and though needed to suceed, which is a good thing in my opinion. I am suprised by how fast contract work becomes useless and I wish they would expand upon it. Research is deep and fleshed out and there are is a suprising amount of genres'. A lot of effort was put into this game and it payed off. Once annoyance with this game is the lack of songs on its soundtrack, other than that great game. 9.8/10

I was supposed to go to bed. I just wanted to install the game and have a quick look at the startup. I don't think I can go to bed now, I still have games to create.

10/10 would not sleep again

"Game Dev Tycoon" is a fun little indie game about making video games. From starting off as a one-man-small-company to a major game devoloping team is fun. It works fine and it's always a fun to play!
