About This Game

In Game Dev Tycoon you replay the history of the gaming industry by starting your own video game development company in the 80s. Create best selling games. Research new technologies and invent new game types. Become the leader of the market and gain worldwide fans.

A journey through gaming history

Start in the 80s
Start your adventure in a small garage office in the 80s. Enjoy the hand-crafted level design while you develop your first simple games. Gain experience, unlock new options and create your first game engine.

Create games your way
In Game Dev Tycoon the decisions you make during development really matter. Decide which areas you want to focus on. Does your game need more gameplay or should you focus more on quests? These decisions will have a major impact on the success of your game.

Grow your company
Once you have successfully released a few games you can move into your own office and forge a world-class development team. Hire staff, train them and unlock new options.

Yo dawg I heard you like video games, so here's a video game where you create video games to sell to fans of video games within this video game.

Seriously though this game is fun and potentially addictive. Enjoy. :)

Once you get REALLY good it is hard to make a game that gets reviews better then 4/10.
But otherwise its an OK game.

This game is awesome. I really reccomend it if you want to play a strategy/simulation game for a couple of days. Even after you finish the game it is fun to restart.

I RECCOMEND IT

I bought this game when it first came out and still come back to play it. Extensive replayability as I will startup new game studios focusing on different type games using different production strategies. Easy to jump into for a few quick minutes, as well as easy to play for hours on end. This is the best implementation of a tycoon game for this focal (game development) that I've seen.

Game Dev Tycoon is a cute and witty take on the video game development process. There is a certain level of addiction the game instills in the player, pushing you to continue to develop new titles or create new businesses to try and squeeze out the best review scores ensuring a steady stream of sales which equates to more cash for your little simulated development company.

The pacing works well and gives you roughly 6-8 hours of play time for the 30 years you get to play. Once you reach the end the game does allow you to keep going, but no more story elements unfold (nothing beyond the PS4 and next Xbox).

If you can find Game Dev Tycoon on sale on Steam it’s certainly worth picking up.

THE GOOD
- Addictive gameplay
- Solid design
- It is easy to understand
- Fun real life gaming representations
- You can interact with the community

THE BAD
- Can be very easy
- Flat gameplay

My story:
-Makes RTS
-Turns it into a series
-4 games later my friend suggest I make a TPS spin-off
-I make it
-More popular than the RTS
-I make more TPS games and less RTS
-Year 15
-TPS becomes FPS
-5 games later
-Online play released
-Zombies mode released
-Makes FPS into MMO
-Makes 60 expansions
-Year 57
-MMO still on market
-180 expansions
-I get a hardware lab finally
-Console is built to play MMO
-Keeps making expansions for MMO, never makes another game
-Year 106
-100th Anniversary of the series (including RTS, FPS, and TPS)
-Makes console in honour
-Releases grPad edition
-Flops
-Goes bankrupt
10/10 would have a 108 year long game again

Not a fan of the genre, just a guy who was interested about the theme of the game. And, from the theme perspective, it's very flavorful. But when you figure out how to "game" the system, how to manipulate the numbers correctly, then it becomes a simple spreadsheet, that's nothing more than chosing the correct options every time. There isn't enough factors to challenge the player to think, to actually do the logical things that are true in normal game design. It's all way too set in stone, and it's way too easy to figure out the way to play the game, then it loses all the appeal for me.
