It is very important when reading a possitive review of this game you check the date. Any review before the date of Feb 15th 2014 is no longer valid due to the major over haul patch the game had that day. The game literally became a brand new game on that day and most of the changes were for the worse. Another major note to consider is Ubisoft promised there would not be a content wipe of players progression, then just like that changed their minds and wiped all accounts clean, changed almost all of the rules to the game and then finally even changed the way the cash shop functioned making this game try to vacuum as much $ as possible as fast as it can.
I bought a hell of a fun game and logged a lot of hours on it, then the Devs just up and stole the game I paid my money for out from under me and replaced it with a steaming pile of doo.
3/4/14 Below is a Copy_&_Paste of the 3 comments I have made in this thread addressing questions that more specificly answer what I disliked along w/ this added comment. It's pretty funny to see people flame my thread, specialy when they have only 1 or 2 hours total played on this game... vs my 80+ hours.
#1 Time spent after patch.
About 12hrs played after the patch, I logged in the day of excited to see the changes. I Noticed the chat tab was nothing but people complaining... seriously noone said anything possitive. I closed the chat & thought to myself "That's just the normal part time player full time whiners crowd, they always are the loudest." I dismissed it and set out grinding my mage&melee character. So in answer to what I assume is your true question. Yes, I gave it an honest chance after the patch, but was ultimatly unhappy, which I will now explain in more detail.
#2 Prior to patch you could place only 20 pts of monsters in 1 area, each has its own point value depending on difficulty. The patch made it so you can literaly have your whole castle empty except the final room where you stack all the monsters. Traps were also changed, and can be stacked now. Also traps can now harm monsters, but the monsters AI tries to avoid the trap causing them to get stuck inside of walls while fleeing, you can not beat the persons castle then. This bug was well known, exploited and complained about on Test and never should have went live! Losing to a castle makes you lose crowns to that person. A normal example of att vs crown ratio would be me att you and win I get 10 of your crowns, I attack and lose you get 32 of mine. The ratios do flux based on lvl of atker vs castle lvl, the speed of clearance, destruction of gold/lifeforce mines etc. So as I'm sure you can see it's quite disheartening to lose crowns you worked for just because some random person who has a freebie account decides, hey why not abuse this bug and make an unbeatable castle, it's not like there is a penalty for exploiting.
#3 People saying I should have known better because it was Ubisoft.(you're right)
I saw people saying bad things on the steam forums about the Uplay account before I got the game, but I thought I had never delt with them first hand so I gave it a chance. Something I now regret, as I learned that Uplay was a part of Ubisoft aka Shadowbane for me.
If you look on the Steam Help forums for this game you will be able to see my struggles with the game as soon as I downloaded it. I made forum posts asking for help. Reguardless of the language I selected @ account generation it was all in German. I tried several uninstalls and reinstalls reselecting English. This error was a Uplay/Ubisoft account issue, but since I only encountered it because of my interest in this game, /shrugs.
Finally... when I got this game I was given 3 free keys to give away which I promptly issued to my friends. Here is a list of played time for all three of them.
Ripped24x7 3.9 hours
Ceo 1.9 hours
mclefty .1 hours mclefty was given a message that his computer could not handle this game and wasnt even allowed to try to play it passed that message. Funny that his computer can run Skyrim no problem.. but this game is too much for it.
3/12/14 I've been keeping tabs on this games patch notes and future fix announcements, they look promising. Despite all the negative things I have said about my exp so far with this game please keep in mind I had a crapload of fun at first, before things turned for the worse. I hope this games patches can soon motivate me to turn my thumbs down post into a thumbs up.
