Buggy comes to Developer Tools

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yF5QkQyLfLw

Continuing the year-long support for Dying Light in 2016, we have just expanded the Dying Light Dev Tools. Players now have the ability to use all-terrain buggies featured in Dying Light: The Following on custom maps, even if you only own the base game. With that new addition comes also the option to freely modify the driving system and use the buggies in PvP scenarios.

To coincide with the latest update, Techland and Razer announced the special ‘Buggy Madness’ contest. Anyone can compete by creating a buggy-based custom map using Dying Light Developers Tools (available for free on Steam) and submitting it at the official contest website.

The contest runs from May 19th to June 19th 2016 and aims to select the most creative, enjoyable, and high-quality maps.

More information and the submission form can be found at http://DyingLightGame.com/Devtools-Contest.

Developer Tools update release notes:

• Buggy unlocked
• Added "following" collection to editor's collections set
• All The Following and The Bozak Horde assets are now available
• Multiplayer fix on workshop maps
• Added missing weapons' textures to the editor
• Tiny Objects fix + added 4 new layers
• AI presets can be configured in HumanAI.pre file
• Example map is updated to The Following game version (buggy, driver skills, example track)
• Multiplayer mode is now disabled whenever cheats are enabled

Barely refined from Dead Island. Only difference really is the parkour. Zombies still just grapple you instantly even in late game, only difference is how quickly you can shake them off at that time.

Bad.

The game is broken and has had memory leaks since January. The devs don't seem to care. Do not buy until they fix it. GTX 970 + 8GB RAM is apparently not enough.

The game itself is really enjoyable if you can get it running.

Now, I already reviewed the following DLC, but all of the points I made there are still applicable here, so I'll just copy/paste my review here.

The overall game is good. it has a lot of pros, but HOLY F*CKING SH*T THAT ENDING WAS SO BAD. my main criticism is the god awful endings, so spoilers ahead, watch out if you actually care.

still reading? good.
so lets first talk about ending A: you follow the orders given to you by the mother and help her complete her goal. that being setting off a nuclear bomb and killing everyone in the city and countryside, but also eradicating the virus. it's over in under 1 minute and is actually counter productive. one of your main goals in the vanilla game was to stop the military from doing litterally that exact same thing. so you spend part of the first game trying to stop that, then the expansion trying to do that.

so, now that we have the worst ending out of the way, lets talk about ending B: you refuse, and try to take the "cure" (I use this loosely because it turns people into volatiles, the UV sensitive zombies that come out at night) back to your friends in the tower (home base), but the mother forced you to drink some of the "cure", so you start becoming a volatile. the final screen is the sun setting on an area I would assume outside of harran (the city the game takes place in). the reason i would assume it's outside is because you see a working bus and organs aren't strewn about the place. there are 2 children and their mother (not THE mother) in a playground with, for some reason, a sewer drain next to it. it's implied you kill them all and spread the virus around the world.

so, lets recap: you either get to A: undo your work, or B: spread the virus outside of harran and infect the rest of the world. both endings are very unfulfilling and leave a lot of loose ends un-tied e.g. what happened to doctor camden? did he develop a real cure? what happened to ezgi? (though i would assume she was blown up if you chose ending A) what's the aftermath of each of those endings? it would seem like they're setting it up for a dlc finale, but this IS the finale. there's just going to be no more explanation.

Right so, this game quite complex and long winded for what goes on.
I think I should start to adrress the control of the game, their not easy to get on with to start off! If your coming from Assessins Creed Frachise or Brink or any kind of the free running is done for you, that kind of game play, your going to hate this to start.
The main misstions are good and well organised and realy intresting and where you want to spend most of your time, but the side misstions are long and kind feel like they get in the way... though some are fun and some are not.

The free run challenges may look fun but the time limts are a pain in the ♥♥♥, if you don't complete it in the time you fail and have to restart, I gave up after 3 attemps because the devlopers think that begginers would ever play this game clearly by the set times that are given, this let the game down a lot for me, this game been out for ages and seems like as if the devlopers have talord the game (for publish) towards people who played the beta or have good understanding of the controls work even on the easy challeneges, considering the first freerun challenege bar was set so high, out of 26 cheackpoints I got 18, it not easy to keep up.
So my point is for bigginers, the bar is set far to high, this is something Techland should work on to allow people to enjoy the game at the start, the bigging should be easy and regarless of how badly you mess up, you should be able to still win.

Though the game is decorated and wondfuly colourd compared to DI serise (even that was good for the time) and the game seems to work well and does what you want for the most part, been time where you dont want to climb but the ladders their and you jump up and your like the dam ladders right their!

I feel this revirew been very negitive, probley because of it big ego and high bar setting for others.

Overall the story good 8/10. controlls 4/10 after some time 7/10, layout of map and general suroundings 9/10 (Techland, its great and the following is better), Main Misstions 7/10, side misstions 4/10 to long mostly and to much jumping though hopes. All in all a good 7/10 for the hole game, considering it not talord that well, but looks are wonderfull supports their big ego or bar settings.

After the somewhat disappointing Dead Island, especially in coop, I waited to purchase this game thinking it would be similar. It went on sale and I jumped aboard. Not a single regret. Coop is where this shines. There's so much to do, to discover, upgrade, loot, kill, parkour...Easy game to jump into whether it's for 30 minutes of mayhem or 2 hours of quest completion. Something about it keeps pulling me into it just for ♥♥♥♥♥ and giggles. Highly recommended.

This game wasn't on my radar when it came out so I picked it up during a sale and OMFG... this game is so much fun and is very VERY underrated.

Story: The plot is good that can give fun little twists that you weren't expecting. Though the only good character and the one with the only good voice acting is the main character who is voiced by Roger Crag Smith (Chris Redfield and Ezio Auditore). Although my biggest issue is that the story just feels very cliche at like every big action moment and they don't try anything creative. Also the antagonist was being way too serious that it became very annoying to listen to him... Clearly he wants to be a Vaas character but fails so bad.

Gameplay: Best part of this game is how much variety there is in the gameplay. This is a survival game and you have to search throughout the city for items to craft your weapons and other items. There is even a leveling up system for both your weapons, agility, and survival abilities to unlock more perks, best perk of all is the drop kick. You can find blueprints throughout the game to help make even more interesting weapons and add boosters to them more powerful. The parkour system may feel wierd at first when your doing the tutorial mission based around it, after a while it becomes very fluid and responsive that you can pull off some very cool moments with the parkour. Melee weapons do have the same animations over and over again but killing zombies with them just never gets old that you just want to go through multiple killing sprees of zombies. Gunplay is honestly only ment for human enemies since the sounds of the gunfire will draw in zombies but the weapons are very well designed for either situation. At night time the game turns into a horror game that you have to run away from certain zombies that will almost instantly kill you. Side missions are more interesting than the main missions and you will spend a lot of time with it. The only problem with the gameplay is at the beginning of the game you don't have the most powerful weapons so they just degrade fast and takes forever to kill zombies.

Conclusion: Dying Light is a very well made zombie survival game and should be played by every fan of these genres. The story isn't really something you will remember or you probably are gonna careless about but it still offers a thrilling experience. At the start of the game it may feel harsh on you for having weak weapons and stats but later on it pays off. If you have a group of friends to play with this game would be a good option since it is co-op and you can play through the whole story together.

Rating: 8/10

Amazing game, it certainly sets a new standard for action zombies games. It's exactly as it seems from the trailers: a mix of Dead Island and Mirror's Edge. You'll spend most of your time running from rooftops to tiny ledges, gliding on ropes, smashing doors and butchering a million zombies. The game is VERY fun and exciting, you'll be surprised at how long the adrenaline can be effective: I've spent almost 100 hours under its effect :) Non stop action at its core.

For the characters and story it certainly doesn't top off Dead Island, characters have no charisma - including your main character who's really a lameass. The main story is meh and almost non existent, its dialogues totally bland. Music is good, not as good as DI's one, but still good. The surrounding and environment are more impressive in Dying Light though: huge buildings and slums mixed in a very realistic settings: little roads, shops, houses, dumpsters, stairs, etc. Sure it's really missing the exotic island beach theme feel but it's compensated with the crazy action. BTW you'ld better not have a fear of height because the second main map is even more geared toward the rooftop runs than the first one!

Most of the quests are good though, some secondary quests really making up for the main story. I was surprised with the quantity of stuff to do, things to collect, quests to do, parkour runs, , blueprints and loot to find! Quests givers are spread out in the maps, there's also a lot of parkour races to do and a lot of achievements. The controls are perfect and very responsive (I used an XBox controller). There's several difficulty levels and even a new game +. Like in DI the multi mode isn't mandatory and you can play fully solo, with no other player entering your game.

About the weapons, well DI wins this one, Dying Light's weapon crafting is pretty meh and slow to unlock in the beginning. Most of the blueprints are more or less hidden in the huge maps and you'll often trip on boxes containing them. However the weapons never seem that powerful, except for the last ones ofc. Zombies seem to have a huge pool of life (how ironic) and weapons wears off very fast. Be warned that the first 5 hours of the game (if solo) are VERY hard, mainly because you're totally helpless: no good weapons, unable to hit more than 3 times before panting, out of breath, unable to even run efficiently and having very few possible parkour movements. But you'll eventually begin to unlock some good skills and that's when you'll begin to really play. The game really shines when you unlock the grapple and you suddenly transform into Spiderbatman (yes, it's a huge bat with leg spiders *nods*), it really makes the exploration really really fun!

Can't wait to grab the expansion when it goes on sale. I'm a huge zombies games fan, and this one is very good. I totally recommend it and really hope they make a sequel - or a ton of expansions, anything!

If I where a psychologist and I had clients with anger management issues I would definitely suggest playing Dying Light as there is no better feeling then kicking the krap out of zombies with your right foot. But since I'm not, I can only suggest you should play Dying Light as there is no better feeling then kicking the krap out of zombies with your right foot.

It can be pretty challenging and it can be somewhat frustrating at times too but since my psychologist suggested to me I should play this as there is no better feeling then kicking the krap out of zombies with my right foot, I'll keep up with it. One of the best things I guess is that the game (somewhat) scales up with you, so not like Failout 4 where after few hours you, your skills and weapons are OP and there are barely any real challenges ahead, this game keeps pushing your limit(s). Which is really nice for a change. You get better (equipped) the game trows more difficulty at you.

There actually is just one giant big problem with 'Dying Light' you cannot, not at all, nada, nuka, njet, not, niet, nicht, change or influence the narrative. Would that have been the case I would have rated this a massive AAA++++++, now its only a massive AAA+++++.

Oh, just one thing, you really, really should be aware off that once you start playing this, there is no better feeling then kicking the krap out of zombies with your right foot.

This is one of the best games I've played hands down. I'm not generally into zombie games, but this one is fantastic! Graphics are great, gameplay is awesome. The parkour/free running is very well done, and meshes well with the 1st person view (I say this because I wasn't sure it would based off of my past experience with Assassin's Creed). The story is also great, I remember my first time getting stuck out at night with the night-forms, I was terrified! Great variety of weapons, though the vast majority of combat is melee, it's very well done. I give this a solid 5/7! ;)

Extremely enjoyable game. The gameplay, graphics, storyline, monsters, co-op are all pretty amazing. It was also creepy enough to get me freaked out in the night gameplay so co-op was really nice to have someone else to get scared with. I played through most of the game in co-op unfortunately did not finish the game completely from losing progress from a reinstall but 10/10 would play this game again.

Great atmosphere, fantastic graphics, and kept me on the edge of my seat. I spent little time doing side missions, so I may have missed out on a lot of great quests and great NPCs. I may revisit this in coop mode, but single player was fun. It did highlight how bad I am at fast paced games though. The game itself was great, but these fast paced running games will always be a pain in my ♥♥♥. I died more than I probably should have and cursed up a storm because if it, but in the end it was worth the playthrough. Still worth a pickup, but not at full price for someone like me who struggles with some of the parkour style games. If you are a mirrors edge fan, or a dead island fan, or both, this will be right up your alley.

The best Zombie-slayer game i have ever played. The graphics are breathtaking, characters are perfect and the story is great: there are many twists in it which make it exciting. The parkour moves are also excellent and the coop is working well. It is not by accident that this game was signed to the best coop game of the year 2015. Rank system is okay too. It is also a survival game so you need to collect items in the daytime to create weapons and other creative useful things which helps you to survive the much deadlier night. And yes, it contains many frightening things. I absolutely recommend this one to every zombie-slayer gamer because your dreams will come true in this game. :)

I'll simply start by saying that Dying Light is -- hands down -- the best open world game I've played in my entire gaming career. In fact, it's fast becoming one of my favorite all-time games (and I've been gaming since the '80s).

As opposed to others in its genre (Assassin's Creed, Sleeping Dogs, Red Dead Redemption, Skyrim, ...), this game does not propel you from one mission to the other, having you grab for fast travel at every opportunity. No, you'll be crawling through the streets or jumping across roofs to try to get to your next mission alive! The in-between is just as much fun -- if not more so -- than the actual missions.

Which is not to say that the story is bad, far from it. You'll find yourself engrossed in the unraveling story line, meeting interesting and colorful (and every now and then comical) characters, with voice acting well done ... finally!

Add on top of that a seamless parcour gameplay, four completely different parallel RPG-style skill trees, a crafting system that finds the perfect balance between having to search for new material and using awesome weaponry -- until they are broken and you either repair it or build something new --, fantastic mo-capped animations for monsters, a tense and exciting day-night cycle, and to top it all off -- the lush cherry on the delicious whipped cream -- an unbelievably stunning graphics engine.

Oh, and the zombies are sufficiently creepy and so very believable! This game has my heart pumping with fear, excitement, and relief dashing for the nearest safe zone while a viral or hunter is chasing me down. Something that hasn't happened ever since I played Thief in '98.

Another thing I need to mention: every other game I've played like this is only really exciting for the first couple of hours. After that, I rely on save games to get away with recklessness and, given enough tries, complete whatever task I'm undertaking. Not so with Dying Light. Death is not permanent and you'll respawn in the nearest safe zone, but you will lose plenty of survival skill points, making you fall behind on that skill tree. That's incentive enough to be careful and make for a continuously tense and exciting game.

Just one piece of advice, though: turn of the minimap and take your time to try to learn the layout of the city by heart. There are plenty of landmarks that help you find your way. This greatly improves on the immersion and gameplay.

Pro:
  • Beautifully hand-crafted open world. Not a single thing looks like a repeated pattern.
  • Perfect open world gameplay. The game is playable without a minimap (and much more exciting for it) and because of the danger around every corner, you don't constantly feel like you want to fast travel.
  • Stunningly beautiful graphics. Make sure you have a high-end machine for this.
  • Great story and characters. You feel empathic and enthralled within the first five minutes.
  • Intense zombie horror atmosphere. It's as close to the real thing as you can get.
  • Realistic skill point system. Gain skill points in Agility, Power and Survival, by jumping/running/climbing, fighting, and completing quests, respectively.
  • Diverse skill trees. Each skill tree has many interesting and useful skills, both passive and active. Choose your preferred style of play.
  • Engaging item crafting system. Unlike most other games where crafting is fun for the first few hours and then gets way too easy and overpowered, Dying Light continuously forces you to make new weapons and gear, because the more you use them, the more you wear them out.
  • Diverse weapons. Pimp your melee weapons by making them stronger, easier to handle, or more durable. Add electric, fire, poison or bleeding effects. Or use the very powerful firearms that kill your enemies with one shot (hopefully), but will attract many more with the noise it produces.

Con:
  • ... I'll let you know when (if?) I see one.

This game has given me a stiffie for 840 hours streight, why?
Because This game is parkour, the mechanics are simular to assasins creed franchise where you climb buldings, hide, craft your own bombs, use a grapple hook, unlock your own safehouses, e.c.t.

The game is also simular to the FAR CRY franchise where it is 100% free roam, you can 100% Loot. It has great scenery( thats if your computer can handle it) Even though this game is a survival game you CAN run and gun if you know how to use your bullets wisely.
Last but not least TECHLAND has learned from there mistakes on dead island, I now praise them because I can go into a multiplayer lobby and not get blown up by a madman with a rocket launcher that has 500 rounds and no reload.
+some of the characters might turn you on
+has a great storyline
+Community here are actually nice
+Techland actually gives us support and doesnt hand out vac bans for no reason like black ops 3 LOL

As I have played for so long, the only thing I dont like about this game is that there is no gun customization or a silencer for your gun, so once you shoot, you better start ♥♥♥♥ing running!!

Can't believe the time I've spent on this game. That was all pre-DLC and I can't wait to see how many more hours I can log. This game is definitely worth the time.

Nothing beats drop-kicking a zombie off a bridge. Insanely fun with Co-op; I packed about 25 hours into two days with my friends. First time I have ever done it with a game. Highly recommended for parkour-infested open world zombie slaughtering.

9.5/10: Parkour + Open World + Zombies = Non-stop entertainment

What a riot!

First person zombie smashing action with a unique and wide-open playground, multiple weapon options, multiple environments to traverse, and an attractive design direction that keeps you engaged.

It is one of those games that feeds you what you want, and when you are full, it gives you another helping for good measure.

If you enjoy zombie shooters, zombie survival, or just want to blow off some steam; you owe it to yourself to pick this one up.

The developers behind the game handed out a free Enhanced Edition due to the overwhelming positivity of the community. When is that last time you could say something like that? Support these guys, they are a rare breed in today's industry.

Predictable story and uninspired quests. Fetch this. Kill that. The usual. The NPCs are cardboard cutouts who do nothing to help you, and quest rewards are, at best, a slightly better weapon than the one you have. It will break though. All weapons break, so don't get invested in it.

All these points aside, Dying Light is fun. If you just play it for fun and see past all it tries to be, you'll have a good time. Bashing zombies with a hammer, jumping from roof to roof, leveling up and gaining new techniques... it's kind of satisfying. I don't even mind gathering ingredients to customize my weapons (and only my weapons, nothing else). Basically no character customization, save for a few different costumes.

You play as Super American who drops into Sandplace. Sandplace is infested by zombies. Oh gee, I wonder where they came from? Who cares? There's a doctor who has some kind of medicine that delays infection. So?

The story is uninspired and, frankly, boring. Same goes for jumping and climbing puzzles, that are littered everywhere, especially in side quests. When people ask you to help, there is little motivation to actually do so. Run across half the map for 25 minutes to get some XP and a semi-rare wrench? No thank you! Just roam the city, kill ♥♥♥♥ and loot.

I recommend Dying Light once the price tag goes down. Wait for a sale and have fun, play with a friend in co-op mode. Expect good gameplay, but little else.
