Buggy comes to Developer Tools

Continuing the year-long support for Dying Light in 2016, we have just expanded the Dying Light Dev Tools. Players now have the ability to use all-terrain buggies featured in Dying Light: The Following on custom maps, even if you only own the base game. With that new addition comes also the option to freely modify the driving system and use the buggies in PvP scenarios.

To coincide with the latest update, Techland and Razer announced the special ‘Buggy Madness’ contest. Anyone can compete by creating a buggy-based custom map using Dying Light Developers Tools (available for free on Steam) and submitting it at the official contest website.

The contest runs from May 19th to June 19th 2016 and aims to select the most creative, enjoyable, and high-quality maps.

The best things from every zombie game ever. If Left 4 Dead, Dead Rising, Dead Island, Mirror's Edge, Far Cry, and Just Cause had a baby, this would be it.

Gameplay was confusing! took way to long to find a single weapon worth anything. To many actions required for 1 action to be accomplished (press key to unlock door, door is now unlocked, press key to open that door now) etc.. Tried to get money back, but was over the alloted time frame for returns.

Despite have irritating qualities and rehashed, monotonous dead island combat this isn't a bad game.

Irritations include:
  • QTE Last Boss, one of the greatest sins of modern game design.
  • MC sounds like a ♥♥♥♥♥♥, is Sonic.
  • MC suddenly is in love with a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ character that he has virtually no interaction with and wants to sacrifice himself for some hole.
  • That style of writing where the MC never simply kills the bad guy or solves any problem to build catharsis at the finale, but makes player feel like an incompetent ♥♥♥♥♥tain. Sure, vulnerable female character, YOU carry the file that is my ultimate purpose in this entire ordeal, that will never end badly. (OH NO, YOU WONT GUESS WHO WAS JUST CAPTURED)
  • That ♥♥♥♥♥♥ Far Cry 3 style of craaaazy wacky villian that won't shut up or stop expounding on his deep social darwinism / murder porn fanfic.
  • Recognizing areas ripped straight from Dead Island, as well as animations, gameplay, and plot. Why would you copy a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ plotline?
  • Coop partner has to be exactly next to you in order to take a quest.
  • Finally a game with campaign coop so we can play it together! -> last mission forces you into single player.
  • Even sidequests come with 5 minutes of boring dialogue, skip skip skip skip skip.
  • You're too tired to use your grappling hook because that would be too fun, but you're fine to vault and climb up a tower at breakneck speeds.
  • Baklava comes in a candy bar wrapper, it's a ♥♥♥♥ing pastry, do you even baklava?!

I mostly enjoyed myself, I would never recommend this without a dedicated coop partner.

Dying Light builds on the Dead Island & Rip Tide add-on games, producing a more refined open-world to explore. The Parkour elements give you a real sense of freedom to roam wherever you want, and is critical in getting out of harms way. There's alot of sightseeing to be done in the fictional City of Harran & it's surrounding districts, offering a wide variety of loot to uncover, weapons to upgrade & errands to carry out, with occasional airdrops with which to stock up on essentials. When the last shards of light fade and night approaches, you get a real sense of unease as the game dynamic changes. You'll need to keep your wits about you till dawn, or seek shelter in various safehouses till distant church bells ring out. This genre of game seems common place these days, but few match it's quality.

Oh ... and it's got Zombies in it too.

I usually am sarcastic when I review a game, but this?
It's one of the best games I've EVER played in my entire life.
The only problem is that it has a few cliches. Which I'll get to later on in this review.

Story 9/10 because there are cliches the real reason is: Jade died and I can't find pornography of her

Combat 7/10
-The reason combat is this low compared to the others is because in early game, you have to hit a zombie for 10 mins to kill it.
-However, in a more progressed game that is the reverse. If you engage in a fight and take damage.. that means you're a ♥♥♥♥♥♥.
Voiceover 10/10 I don't think I need to explain this.. do I?

You lose the only person you care. The villian always shows up out of nowhere, ending up in a fight where he gets away and you fight people (a.k.a. that one spider-man game where the octopus guy always got away) Also, the villian questions your sexuality- and I mean it. He asked me if I'm a real man or not, at least 20 times.

Se non lo conoscete...vi state perdendo molto in termini di puro divertimento , ma anche di atmosfere molto ben riuscite e zombies da tutte le parti
Gioco ormai famosissimo grazie al passaparola che regala veramente molte ore fatte di uccisioni tranquille e squartamenti di zombies , almeno fino alle 20-21 ... DOPO IL CAOS
Ebbene sì seguendo un ciclo giorno-notte vedrete che al calar del sole le cose cambieranno ed appariranno zombies più cattivi , più veloci e più voraci : non vi resterà che fuggire , correre e scappare verso il rifugio più vicino...: se volte vivere un gioco più tranquillo la notte dormite in un bel sacco a pelo ed uscite solo di giorno...ma NON FATE I CODARDI !

Molte armi da creare e molte abilità da sviluppare ne fanno un gioco , rispetto ad altri simili con zombies , molto vari e che puo' piacere anche agli appassionati di gdr inteso come chi vuole sempre salire di livello e migliorare gli ableri abilità appunto
Anche la storia è mediamente interessante , seppure non tocca alti livelli di caratterizzazione dei personaggi e fila liscia con un finale abbastanza scontato
COMPRATE ASSOLUTAMENTE anche il dlc "The FolloWing" , che , oltre a farvi accedere ad una altra area di gioco veramente grande , vi farà entrare in possesso di una dune buggy che potrete migliorare a piacimento e con la quale schiacciare tutti gli zombies che volete , regalandovi puro godimento

I usually don't like zombie games, but this game is ♥♥♥♥ing awesome.
It's Dead Island with parkour, and very well executed.

Pros:
+ Good Graphics
+ Great gameplay
+ Killing zombies is actually fun
+ Weapon modifications/upgrades
+ A lot of side missions
+ Parkour
+ Co-op
+ "Night is Coming"

Mediocre:
~ Skill tree is ok
~ Backtracking (Usually on side missions)

Cons:
- Minor bugs with climbing

Genre - Open world Zombie Game

About me - I enjoyed all the Dead Island games I have played and am a fan of teh Walking Dead

So I got this game a while agon on the Steam sale. However, some new DLC being released got me to boot it up for the first time. I wasn't sure what to expect but had read about free running being used that I had probably only seen before in Titanfall and Mirror's Edge. This actually goes great in a zombie game when sometimes you just want to get passed and complete a quest.

The weapons are very much like in Dead Island and you can craft and upgrade them. They all have limited uses so you can't get one powerful weapon and use it for the whole game. To help you there are guns, molotovs, bows and arrows and traps etc. You will also get upgrades for your toon to allow them to free run, fight and use resources more efficiently.

You can jump into other players games or get them to join you. At night things get a lot more hectic with the ability of player invasions starting a mini-game (if activated) where they are the infected and you have to destroy nests. You will need to rely on your UV light to survive, and probbaly one or two allies.

The story will keep you interested enough, and the various sub-quests will have you running around and interacting with various NPCs. The graphics look nice and the sound is atmospheric, the growl of the larger zombies still puts me on edge.

If you were a fan of the Dead Island games you will definately enjoy this as it is ultimately more of the same, with more free running in the city but less sea and sand.

Is it just another zombie game?

No. It is THE ZOMBIE GAME.

This game is an amalgamation of every cliche, dilemma and trope found in zombie-related games, comics, films and culture. Though this may seem like something you've seen a hundred times, Dying Light has managed to implement and capture the core aspects of what made those devices work by adding in the right amount of survival horror and scares.

Death comes swiftly at every turn if you slip up in the night.

This game captures the intensity and tension of fast-moving zombies from 28 Days Later, adds in a horrifyingly wonderous night-time gameplay that drastically limits vision and introduces enemies that are genuinely frightening; both when they jump you and when you are trying to sneak or run past them while listening to their guttural growls and screams.

The most amazing part? YOU are in total control at every moment. YOU will understand why and how you die. YOU are definitely equipped with the ability to outrun and outlast them all. Yet Dying Light still manages to keep up the fear despite giving you every tool at your disposal once the game opens up.

And for the seasoned veterans, think the game is too easy after a while? Wear a pair of surround sound headphones, attempt it in Nightmare mode or turn off your HUD.

Dying Light at first glance will remind you of Dead Island, with its focus on melee combat and the destruction of countless hordes of zombies, but on top of the similarities, there are vast improvements with its fluid gameplay, endless content and striking new mechanics.

Dying Light follows the story of an undercover GRE [Global Relief Effort] agent named Kyle Crane who is dropped into the infested city of Harran, a fictional city hinted to be situated in Turkey. Crane enters the city by C-130 tactical jump and stumbles across a group of armed men, following this first short encounter a zombie horde attacks and you are quickly rescued by two other people. These two people are apart of a community situated in an apartment building nicknamed ‘The Tower’ by its residents. From there you have your primary objective of finding extremely sensitive data which a GRE rogue agent has stolen and your superiors need it obtained. Whilst you tackle the task at hand you also will be asked to help people in the city which play a role as side missions within the game, these add to the stories related to the many interesting characters and give you a better sense of the trials and tribulations of the surviving people of Harran.

The controls and movement throughout the game are phenomenal and could be compared to Mirror’s Edge, personally, I would say it is a lot more freeform and has an emphasis on freedom and exploration. After all, Techland hired David Belle as a consultant to work on the games Parkour design and motion capture. David Belle is a French film actor, choreographer and stunt coordinator and is considered the founder or the leading pioneer of the Parkour, coining it based on his training and the teachings from his father Raymond Belle. Movement feels fun and the absence of vehicles at the start of the game [later on that] is not something that Dead Island fans will miss as getting places on foot is endless fun.

Amongst the carnage of infected you will also have to battle against humans too and to help you with that you will have access to a plethora of weapons, upgrades, and tools that all can be modified. Blueprints can be found around the city to unlock the ability to craft custom weapons from items you pick up whilst on missions. There are three main skill trees to upgrade which add an RPG element to the game, survival, agility, and power. Survival assists in general abilities in relation to exploration. Agility provides for quicker movement and improved Parkour ability. Power relates to your engagement with enemies and the types of attacks against enemies that can help do insane amounts of damage. Gaining XP is pretty simple, for Agility all you have to do is move, climb, jump and travel distance. For Power XP all that is required is hit zombies, kill zombies in new ways or just shoot them down with a hail of bullets. To get survival points it is a little less constant, it’ll require helping out recovering supply drops for the friendly survivors and completing certain tasks for them.

Time of day makes a huge difference in this game’s gameplay. Not only is night time near pitch black, but it’s so dangerous that EXP gained for Power and Agility are doubled. Being out at night time is a matter of risk vs reward as death is likely to happen. Nighttime is when special enemies called ‘Volatiles’ appear. They are twice the size of a normal zombie, they are powerful, and faster than the player. The only way to survive them is to avoid them or use the verticality of the city to help escape them by shifting direction.

Multiplayer is present in the form of 4 player coop and separate modes including 4 players vs volatiles [be the zombie mode] and Deathmatch mode, which was introduced in later patches. There is an invasion system throughout the campaign, players can invade your single player game with a volatile hunter and it can really keep you on edge, of course, this is a toggleable feature.

Dying Light runs on the Chrome Engine 6, one version up from Dead Island’s Chrome Engine 5. The visual improvements are obvious as soon as you launch the game, even on a console. Improved 3D sound, x64 High dynamic range rendering, higher resolutions shadows and within the first year of its release the developers released the ChromEd tool to allow for map/script making.
Model Detail is one key visual feature that stands out over previous Techland titles, this is mainly obvious due to the enhanced zombie/creature detail — but also can be seen in the environment, Harran has a very realistic mix between Northern Middle-East and Eastern European architecture.
Bozak Horde DLC

The Bozak Horde is a challenge/story DLC that adds a new weapon to the mix. The player wakes up in a small room and is told by the mysterious man called Bozak that a bomb has been attached to your leg and you are required to follow his dangerous and increasingly difficult requests. Through the DLC the player must attempt to complete 20 trials in the Harran stadium which will lead to the weapon unlock and some more story to add to the rich world of Harran.
The Following DLC
[MINOR SPOILERS]

After completing the main story campaign of Dying Light, Kyle Crane learns about a cultist group who seems to be naturally immune to the virus that effects Harran without the need for Antezin. They are living in the ‘Countryside’, the rural outskirts of the main city. In order to gain information about the immunity and gaining the cult’s trust, he must assist the survivors living out in the ‘Countryside’. This DLC adds a wealth of content, including a minimum of 16 hours of story content, the ability to drive and upgrade a Dune buggy [also added to multiplayer], some new weapons including a Crossbow and a new map that is double the size of all other maps combined. The game at this stage gets a breath of fresh air with the addition of new characters and a new landscape to traverse. There is a new ranking system that also relates to Trust with the immune Cult group and also a later patch that unlocked much of the previous level cap, allowing for new upgrades and customization within the game.

In conclusion, you are looking at an extremely immersive game that will keep you entertained for hours, this is the game that Techland wanted to originally make during the Dead Island development and finally with the assistance of WB Games they could. The game will take around 28 hours to complete with the DLC content taking up to 18 hours to complete

-Many people think after the QTE boss "That's it?" NO IT'S NOT.
just don't press "CONTINUE" when done with the main campaign.


A simple description of this game would be "Dead Island + Mirror's Edge = Dying Light"...
But there's just so much in this game, since "The Following" got added, it's basically double as big as it was on release.

Skill system: check / Melee: check / Firearms: check / Parkour: check / Zombies AND Human enemies: check.

In the Expansion, The Following, there's a buggy, a drivable vehicle! new weapons, NPCs, places and quests!
a solid 10/10 from me, was 9/10 since the last boss was a Quick-Time Event, but in the expansion, they changed that!

My dream girl died in museum while she was captured by bandits during the zombie apocalypse. I got mad, killed some of them. Then I went outside and killed some zombies and took the airdrops full of medical supplies. Then I came home, turned computer on and started to play Dying Light.

I hated dead island when it launched. Infact I played 20 minutes and took it back to the store for a refund I was that disappointed in it.. but this.. my god is it amazing! I love this game!
