About This Game

Dying Light is an action survival game presented in first-person perspective. The game is set in a vast and dangerous open world. During the day, you roam an urban environment devastated by a mysterious epidemic, scavenging for supplies and crafting weapons to help you defeat the hordes of mindless, flesh-hungry enemies the plague has created. At night, the hunter becomes the prey as the infected grow in strength and aggression - but even more lethal are the nocturnal, inhuman predators that leave their hives to feed. You will need to make use of all your skills and any available means to survive till dawn.

Good Night. Good Luck.

  • Welcome to the Quarantine – Experience an original and intense story set in an infected city cut off from the outside world. Only the fittest have any hope of survival.

  • Vast Open World – Dying Light lets you traverse an extensive world plunged into chaos and destruction. In this diverse environment, you fight for survival against many kinds of enemies since the infected are not the only threat: facing down other desperate humans is often the only way to get precious supplies.

  • Night Changes the Rules – In daylight you explore the city searching for supplies and weapons. After nightfall, though, this infected world undergoes a dramatic transformation that gives the gameplay a new dimension. You, a hunter by day, become prey. The infected grow in strength, but something even more sinister looms in the darkness to begin its hunt.

  • Parkour-Style Movement – Whether you hunt or escape the hunters, you can move around the city with ease and speed. Jump between rooftops, climb walls, and attack your foes from above. Dying Light gives players a freedom of movement never seen in open world games before.

  • Brutal, Visceral Combat – Fight face to face using a diverse selection of melee weapons: knives, bats, axes, or more unusual tools of destruction. Strike down your enemies, cut off their limbs, save your own life!

  • Firearms – Powerful but noisy. Use pistols, shotguns, and rifles to gain an advantage over enemies, but remember that gunfire can and will attract unwanted attention.

  • Craft Your Weapons – Why use an ordinary cleaver when you can attach a lighter for burning damage? Or wrap a hammer in electrified barbed wire? Dying Light lets you create your own weapon upgrades and construct increasingly efficient tools of combat.

  • Be the Quarantine Hero – Dying Light features RPG elements that let you develop the protagonist and adjust him to your play style. It’s a long and difficult journey from rookie to badass.

  • Choose Your Play Style – Make use of weapons, your surroundings, and traps set by other survivors. Provoke groups of enemies to attack each other. Complete objectives by day or at night. Take advantage of darkness, fog, and storm to remain unseen. Turn the odds in your favor with offensive and defensive gadgets. It’s always your call!

  • Hours of Gameplay – Discover a thrilling story, complete more than a hundred side-quests, and put your skills to the test in special challenges.

  • Co-op Mode for 4 Players – Cooperate with other players in the extreme conditions of a zombie apocalypse. Show your individuality and customize your character.

  • Be the Zombie – Unique online mode where you play as a zombie. If you ever dreamed of stalking other survivors, now is your chance. Let the hunt begin!

  • Breathtaking Visuals and Realism – Dying Light is the first game based on the Chrome Engine 6 – the latest revolutionary incarnation of Techland’s proprietary technology. Built from the ground up with next-generation consoles and advanced DirectX 11 graphics in mind, it delivers a new level of visual quality, special effects, and dynamic weather conditions, maintaining unparalleled efficiency at the same time.

Dying Light combines the fun of a zombie apocalypse with decent zombie ai, smooth parkour, and fun multiplayer coop up to 4 players or the ability to play as a zombie, which somehow just works out.
A much more improved version of dead island IN FACT this is what Dead Island should had been.

Pros
+ Great graphics fitting of 2015, 60 fps and runs well for the most part
+ Smooth parkour gameplay which is easy to understand and pull off influenced by mirror's edge. ( Like a ghetto version of it but still good)
+ Rpg system that feels balanced with 3 variety of skills that are leveled in different ways. Isn't easy to level
+ Addictive zombie head bashing gameplay using melee weapons (there are guns but rare), kill with traps and a handful of blueprint items
+ Coop play with up to 3 other friends for a good times where this time it actually works out well
+ Zombies in the game levels along with your level, they start off slow and stupid and gradually become powerful and dangerous
+ Dynamic day and night cycle where morning is easy hunts while nightime the zombies gets even more dangerous
+ many gameplay elements such as the weapon color system, modded weapons were brought over from dead island. (The good stuff)

CONS
- Fps issues for some people out there which happens to certain hardware or could be a bug (Hopefully this will be fixed with patch and I will just get rid of this line

- Dolphin Pinging for items and for searching for items breaks immersion a bit
- When grabbing quests all players need to be nearby when it should be easy for one to grab quests for everyone.
- Multiplayer hunter mode humans who sit in the safe zone and never comes out to actually play it, getting dropped by people joining a game
- it is hard to be the zombie to invade games or can't find any games, they need to rework this.
- No leaderboards for the multiplay
- Zombie Ai has one super flaw which can only be seen when there are hordes of zombies, Not all zombies will be distracted or pay attention to the player but rather it grabs them randomly to attack while the rest ignores.

(Other)
+- Story starts great then goes off slow but gradually gets better, many sidequest to do.
+- - Sidequests are a bit tedious after a while but overall has a nice lore to them and some of them are excellent, just many of them aren't. They get better LATER in the game.

This game is what Dead Island should have been, a darker story with a more emphase on survival rather than just killing waves of zombies, you will die in this game. Night time makes the game feel like a true horror game and overall its a very great polished games. Pick it up if you're a fan of zombies :) It's worth it!

As someone who is not a fan of horror games, Dying Light walks a well balanced line bordering on action adventure and zombie slaying goodness. During the day you are playing a game of "the street is lava," parkouring through the rooftops only making a quick dash onto the street to scavenge supplies or make a more direct path to your destination while avoiding zombies. Any interaction results in a fluid combat experience that only escalates as your character levels up.

Night brings many more challenges as your visibility is sharply reduced and the abundance and difficulty of zombies exponentially increased. It is advised to avoid these scenarios until you are between levels 7-10.

Early on, focus on leveling up your agility class as running and avoiding zombie hordes is your main tool of survival.

Overall the gameplay is fun, fast and fluid. Crafting is nice but can get repetitive with the same items being scattered all over the world. Graphics look nice but can be enhanced by removing the grainy look through some script modification. The game is not too well optimized for PC at launch (mainly for AMD users) but turning down your draw distance can help combat some of those FPS jumps. If you have an Nvidia setup (like myself) you should be well off for a smoother gaming experience.

Overall I give Dying Light a 8/10 mainly due to some repetitiveness in item scavenging and distortion of how under powered you are early on compared to late game but it is definitely a title worth checking out.

Review from 3 hours in.

Mirror's Edge meets and improves Dead Island and marries Just Cause.

And for those complaining about AMD video chips... you can reduce the settings without any real visible effect. I had problems with stuttering and such... but reduced the graphics settings, and they went away.

-----

UPDATE 1: The missions are appropriately tough... and make use of the parkour in not just an obligatory manner. I feel really free to find my way on my own, and do the objectives that I really want to do, even if there is a main story. As you get used to moving around the city, it's actually really fun just doing that! Very intuitive, and very freeing... just like in Mirror's Edge.

------

UPDATE 2: So, it took me a bit, but I made it to the point that the people are in Walking Dead, i.e. the zombies, while dangerous, aren't really scary.

... then it turned night.

So I'm gonna try to do a non-biased review here.

Stay away from the forums - cause they're full of pirates and people who throws a lot of money after their rigs - but don't know how they function.

I have a very mid-range pc myself, and if you tweak the options in the game - you'll get rid of any performance issues there should be.

Some people are experiencing voice and sound issues as well - don't know about that, ANYWAY.
--------------------------------------------
So in regards to this game, should you buy it, is it worth it?

Hell yeah... There's absolutely No reason to not buy it, if you enjoy parkour, ragdolls, crafting and absolute zombie mayhem. This game features the best atmosphere I've felt in a long LONG time... night time is ♥♥♥♥ing terrifying and the story is so-so... In terms of how many hours of play - if you're a completionist, I can't put my finger on it... personally I've played some 6 - 8 hours already and I'm not even past the starting area by far... There's 4 maps and I'm still in the first one.

Buy or pass? Definitely buy.

I didn't go into this one expecting much, regardless of my time put into Dead Island, I could never bring myself to finish it, it just felt.. well, wrong. Dying Light soon changed that expectation as I was jumping from rooftop to rooftop, electric shiv in hand, being chased by a group of particularly nasty Virals.

Gameplay wise, the addition of Parkour to what is fast becoming a stale theme adds a whole new dynamic, and against some of the nasties you come up against you're going to need it. It's entirely possible to stealth past hordes of the undead, only picking off the odd one or two who are blocking your goal, or even luring them away using the ingame crafting system.
The skill system adds a good amount of character progression and customization, offering three different trees which all level up individually.
The melee combat has a nice flow to it, transitioning from swipes and swings to crushing downwards blows, and each weapon has it's own handling style. Whether a sturdy length of pipe or a chunk of concrete and rebar pried from one of Harran's larger undead beasties, the results are satisfying, with all the right gruesome in all the right places.

Graphically, everything set to high is netting me a Frame Rate of around 55 FPS, which, reading some of the other views is not as common as everyone would like, hopefully this will be rectified in a future patch. I generally expect a lower quality in open world games due to the amount going on at once, but I was truely surprised by what I was met with. Highly detailed environments and some great character design, though finding 5/7 zombies in a small pack all wearing the same shirt is a little strange, we'll just pin it down to a local football match and carry on shall we?

If I had any major gripes so far, they'd probably be focused around the co-op aspects. It's mentioned there are 7 runners left, so why do we all play as the main character from the Single Player campaign?
I've had some noticable issues around the cutscenes while playing with friends too, occasionally one of them will jump a few lines ahead of the dialogue from the NPC, causing the cutscene to end early and leave others wondering what happened. Hopefully things like this could be straightened out in the future, they're certainly not game breaking, but can detract from the experience.

Overall, I've been pleasantly surprised by Techland's latest entry to their zombie stab-em-up, and look forward to playing it more when I don't have to be in work in a few hours. With a few patches and a tidy up here and there, it looks like we could be off to an amazing start to 2015.

Opinion after 5 hours of playing:

I can sure say this was worth the wait and it isn't overrated.
To sum this game up, take Dead Island, add parkour & make improvements on the game.

So positives:

+Beautiful Graphics
+Parkour works perfectly
+Combat is fun
+Variety of enemies
+Zombie kills are satisfying
+Story is interesting
+Nighttime is intense
+Crafting on the spot
+Nice skill trees
+Place is enjoyable to explore

Negatives:
Obviously the positives easily outweigh the negatives but anywho.

-Some stuttering & FPS issues
-Won't run in fullscreen
-Can only fix a weapon 3 times? (Comment if there is anyway to fix it over 3 times)

Played it at 1080p on max settings.

My RIG:
GTX 780 OC
i7 4790k 4.4ghz
16gb 1800mhz ram

Great game. Not like the typical survival game that you usually see.
- Awesome graphics
- Night time makes the game completely insane. You would probably never expect to be chased by zombies in such an extreme way.
- Parkour is amazing, I don't think there are any games out there besides this one with parkour like this.

To sum things up... This is just a badass game and you all should look into buying it.

Imagine Dead Island that's actually a well-made video game without most of the annoying/stupid stuff. Featuring a great parkour system and a meaningful day/night cycle. And Arabs (or whatever imaginary people they are)... for some reason.
Looks very polished and is a technically impressive good looker overall with the aesthetic that sets just the right mood (acceptable texture artworks; great lightning effects and shadows: the nights are dark and full of terrors; one of the best drawing distances ever coupled with the possibility of cranking level of detail to insane levels even on the furthest objects, which require very powerful machine). The game feels well-paced in terms of story and activities and balanced in every gameplay aspect. Skill progression is mostly enjoyable and worthwhile along with the functional crafting system.

It is true, however, that the game is an ultimate hodgepodge of gameplay mechanics burrowed from dozens of predecessors with not that many new ideas, but the end result is worth it.

Also the game fully supports Dualshock 4 (Playstation 4 controller) with the right button prompts without any additional software requirements (no need to emulate Xbox controller, for instance).

Although the game starts off slow and kinda boring it does get better as you go but one thing really bugs me and that's not the zombies it's the fact you can run, jump, climb all over the city with little effort but throw a few punches at zombies and you're out of breath and have to back off.

This game is way more than I expected. It is a LOT of fun. I played for around 5 hours with my friend today and we had a blast ! :) Graphics are stunning, gameplay is really good, interesting story & amazing combat system !

Only bad thing which doesn't really apply to me is the fact that the game is pretty hard to run. I get around 50 to 70 fps with a gtx 970 4gb and sometimes can dip to 40. Do not buy this game if you're running a card under the 780 series imo.
And also the day/night cycle isn't bound to the quests at all ! At least that's what I noticed.

Only 3 hours in the game and It's made me happy I bought it and not regretting it.

It's a VERY pretty game with extremely fluid Parkour, good combat, and zombies for DAYS! I played it with a good friend and a new friend. Running around a city jumping from favela buildings to cars and back, throwing ninja stars or molotovs or flat out drop kicking people like you're Daniel Bryan.

Although I'd imagine the game would be less fulfilling if you play through on your own as a large part of the fun is to do things with your friends, even if it's silly like kicking zombies into spikes and laughing at the ragdol positions when they're stuck in

60+ FPS all game
Great storyline
Graphics are awesome
HEAPS OF WEAPONS!
No shortage of things to do

Played the game for 14 hours and have only just finished the main story line. Heaps left to see and do! No lack of content to be seen anywhere. The graphics are second to none and the framerate is simply awesome. 60+ FPS all game!

The variety of weapons is huge. Simply huge. Not only do you get the basic weapons like crowbars and baseball bats, but you can customise your weapons or craft special weapons like 'The Constable'. Advance through the game and get your hands on a gun or two.

Overall the game is amazing. Some glitches in the parkour system, but nothing game breaking (actually they give you a little bit of an advantage), but its overall the best system in any game so far. I would definately recommend to anyone thats a fan of the whole zombie survival genre! Even if your not, give it a shot!
