“Samurai Gunn is a smoking gun, a blood-stained sword, the quick feet of a trained warrior out to kill. It’s a local multiplayer survival game that feels lush in its violence. I love it. I’m a slave to hitting replay.”

Honestly a great game to bring to a party. If you have 4 controllers and a big screen this can seriously be a fun way to spend time. The action is fast, the controls feel amazing and on point.

Super underrated game.

One of the best couch duel games. Simple, good controls. The arenas affect every match and provide variety.

The only couch arena combat game that just works.
You go "Hey, I wish there was a game that was simple but really engaging, with finesse but not a lot of rules that you have to learn."

So you look at Nidhogg and you run into the issue where your one friend just always beats you for some reason because he rolls around like a jerk.
So you look at Towerfall Ascension and you're dealing with upgrades and stuff and you don't wanna deal with that.
So you look at Dive Kick and you and your friend are just randomly hitting Dive and Kick until someone dies.
So you look at Gang Beasts and it's ptretty great but really sloppy and you're tired of it after 30 minutes and your hands hurt.
So you think about a normal fighting game and realize the only PC fighting game is Mortal Kombat Street Fighter and you aren't about to look up special moves.

Samurai Gunn is to these couch combat games like Cards Against Humanity is to card games, you learn the rules in 30 seconds and everyone with half-descent reaction times is having fun at about the same level. It's fast but controllable. It's sternly competative but always fun. It's simple but flexible. It's a game that you'd try to emulate if you were sent back in time 25 years and had to make a living by becoming a time-travelling game developer when you've already pitched Threes, Lumines, and Geometry Wars to 90s game studios and become a millionaire.

The most underrated... This game is an incredibly intense couch competitive. The single player is lacking to say the least (it's mostly a series of challenges), but if you can find 1 other person willing to come over and play this game is worth it. Here's hoping for Samurai Gunn tournaments in the near future!

An absolute blast for quick couch multiplayer sessions. Very much recommended.
A controller with a decent D-pad is a requirement, IMHO. Controls are very tight, but hinge entirely on the quality of your controller.

One of, if not the best, local multiplayer games I've ever played. My friends and I will hack and slash and shoot each other for hours on end playing Samurai Gunn. On the surfaces it seems like a pretty basic game, and in a sense it is. It is easily picked up by the casual gamer, but there is enough depth to the game mechanics to allow even more hardcore gamers a challenge. If you're looking for a good party game to play with friends, this one is sure to add some excitement to your game night!

Shooooooow!

Pixel representation of classic shogun combat. Awesome pixel blood. Good tunes. A few hidden characters. Most fun on the couch since Netflix and chill.

Samurai Gunn, Nidhogg, and Towerfall Ascension;
If you have a father, a mother, brothers, sisters, pets, insects and even friends... then! You must play those 3 games with them.

Samurai Gunn offers an extremely fun competitive couch play experience. While matches are simplistic in nature the matches are fun and the kills are accentuated with graphics and sound effects. If you have a local group of friends and four controllers I'd gather them for a session and play several rounds. I still go back to this game every now and then with friends.

Best played with others. Not a game for people that like memorizing moves. There are few things more fun than relaxing with a drink and slicing through your friends with a pixelated samuria sword while shouting there can be only me!

only problem with the game is that there is no controller support. I did not realise this until i purchased, but besides the no controller support its a good game. definitely would be a plus if they included it in a future update xD

I had high hopes for this game because it looked really fun. i liked the battle system and when i played survival, i enjoyed it, but then i realized something. I could only play one player on it. this is supposed to be a 4 player game local. I have 3 controllers and no matter what i do, only one ever works on the game. its so frustrating. I tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it, but that did nothing. I even tried to look up online why my other controllers wouldn't work, even when they work on every other game in my steam library and i still have no idea why it won't let me play more than one player. i'm severely disappointed. i wouldn't recommend buying this game if you have my problem (which i dont even see as a problem. just wtf? it won't play correctly)

100% Recommend this if you have gamepads (i'm using PS3's w/ MotionJoy on XBOX setting works perfect), HDMI cable, 3+ friends, and plenty of beer. This is my new party game, and I can see it hanging around for a long time.

Even of you have no friends and can't drink beer, it is worth it for the survival mode alone.

So much fun, but two major flaws: for a 15 dollar game, there just isn't really enough. It's AMAZING fun, don't get me wrong, but there's only so much you can do with two modes, the second of which at first glance isn't heavily different from the other (Versus and Survival). My other problem is that there's just not clear communication with some parts of the game - sometimes you'll win even if you have less than 10 kills, or a showdown will end and nothing will happen.

It's extremely solid as a game and I commend the focus on no-online cause it really does shine on couch versus, but there just isn't enough in this for a full price recommendation in my eyes.

Way too expensive for the little content it has and has been pretty much abandoned by the dev. He published only one patch since the game was released and is now working on a different game.

It's got really good gameplay but is not feature-complete. Here's a list of the stuff that should be in the game but somehow isn't:
- replays
- tournament mode in which you choose how many matches you want to play and the winner will be the one who wins the most. There could be some stats shown between each match. You could choose which levels you want to play or have the game randomise them.
- any match modifiers such as timed matches, no guns, no super jumps, etc.
- any kind of stats that carry over the matches
- unlockables/secrets
- an option to base spawning on the proximity of the enemy, so that you won't spawn near players and be able to instakill them just because you got lucky.

I can't recommend getting the game at it's basic price. It's really fun and has a great soundtrack but at the same time it feels like an early beta at this point. Wait for a sale (UPDATE: the dev didn't even bother putting it on Summer Sale). And get Towerfall Ascension in the meantime if you're looking for a good couch deathmatch game. It's a bit slower in terms of gameplay but at the same time it's superior in pretty much every way and is still getting new content and updates.

Playing Samurai Gunn for the first time may be the most fun I've had playing a multiplayer game. There's almost no learning curve at all and then it's just non-stop action, drama, conniving strategies, and a lot of yelling. The controls are simple to start out with, but open up to more complex gameplay as the subtle specifics of the mechanics reveal themselves. This game is hilarious and heart-pounding; one moment we were cracking up at the absurdity of it all, and the next we were literally on the edge of our seats. Only one of the three friends I played with would probably consider themselves a gamer, but we all enjoyed it equally. This game is for everyone.

Game is full of mystical sun honor. Its soul is essence of fun. True friendship is tested and turned into furious competitive rivalry. Death is waiting in every moment of space time continuum. Mind and body join in ultimate battle. Focus is key. Sluggishness shall be punished. Senses must be sharp like ancient watercrystal dragon blade of life. See bullet before bullet sees you. Don´t use weapon, become weapon. There is only forward. Free yourself from weakness. Clashing souls reveal truth. Freedom transcends eternity.

Silly competitive fighting game similar to that of say Towerfall. The pixel art style and movement is great. Definitely worth picking up if you usually have 3 friends hanging out and you all feel like battling.

This game is like Joust crossed with Samurai Showdown with added chaos. Controls are exceptionally tight and it's a joy to play. It's a bummer that this game is local-only, but I can't imagine how they'd deal with latency on a game like this. Absolutely worth getting a couple controllers and a few friends together to play this. Plus, Max Temkin is a dreamboat.

A fun 4-player fighting game that isn't filled with nonesense and nintendo characters. Needs a patch or two but if you have your pc hooked up to a television and have four controllers ready, this is the most fun you'll have. Every kill makes you feel awesome and every death makes you curse up a storm.

If you care about things in life like having fun you should probably play this game.

It's a party game that is made for both casual and hardcore gamers and it sorta eradicates both of those terms.

It's a simple, pick-up and play game and it will bring out the competitive side of all who play it.

Price seems a little steep for what you get, but I'd say its worth it. Great party game. Fast-paced with simple but tight controls. Super easy to pick up and play, and setting up multiple gamepads took half a second. I yell a lot when I play this game.

One of the best local only combat games out there. So much fun to slice and shoot your friends or mess around with the AI. Everyone dies in one hit, so combat is fast and frantic, with timing becoming critical, if you swing early you leave yourself open, swing at the same time and you cancel the attack, swing late and you end up dead. The levels remind me of donkey kong and bomber man, along with some contra and legend of the ninja thrown in. The gameplay reminds me of Bushido Blade and Smash Bros. This game is excellent and a lot of fun, grab some controllers and friends. It features a single player bot too, but you are really going to want to play with somebody to enjoy it.

Amazing game. Spent hours and hours and hours playing this with people. It's probably one of the easiest pickup-'n-play fighting games on Windows and really gets everyone going. I definitely think this was my game of 2013. I've spent far more time playing it with guests than any other game I own since I bought it on Christmas.

Because there's absolutely no documentation, there's a lot of learning in terms of moves and rules. For instance, if you press your sword and jump and a direction at the same time, you do a mightier jump in that direction than normal. Also, you're limited to 3 bullets a life (gets rid of bullet sniping or camping), and you can hold down to play dead (you'll die in water if you do this). There are a bunch of stages all with their own little intricacies. If there's any game I'd recommend for party play on Steam, this is it.

I'm using Logitech F710 controllers because they have an amazing d-pad for this kinda stuff. Definitely something worth trying out if you're having issues w/ a 360 controller's analog stick. PlayStation controllers should work as well based on their d-pad positioning and functionality.

Based on what the game offers, I do think the price is high; although, that's not something I ever think about. Of the hundreds of games I purchased in 2013, it was by far the best and most-valuable.

I don't understand why so many people love this game. It has a great artstyle, but gameplay wise it's nothing special. I admit the controls are well done, but that's it. If you don't have any people around you to play with this is just a waste of money.

Playing Survival adds nothing to the game because the AI just randomly jumps across the screen. Your enemies aren't intelligent, yes, they know when to attack, but they aren't challenging, just stupid.
Meh.
