I love playing this multiplayer (I´ve played 98% of the time with a friend).
I like this retro style, it brings me back to my youth.
I have been frustrated and I have been laughing.

Choose your class and start fighting your way thrue the dungeon.
Don´t forget to bring your courage and your wisdom.

The time that I have spent on this game, I have enjoyed.
I recommend this game.

EXCELLENT GAME, just wish they would expand to more castles/games, and more heroes

Hammerwatch sometimes feels like Zelda's poorer, non-unionized, zero-hour contract cousin. Also, it sure gets repetitive from time to time. However, as long as casual gaming is concerned, it definitely gets the job done.

This a great dungeon crawler game. Grab a couple of friends. Crank up that difficulty and run! Has a very nice retro feel and many of the community maps are well made. For the price its a must buy.

This game is pretty fun. Classes are fun, co-op is fun, fighting monsters is fun, spending all day trying to beat the game is fun. All in all a great game, wish there was more for it

This game gets pretty challenging (especially if you want to unlock the "real" ending -- good luck finding all the planks).

What makes it challenging though is the lack of walkthroughs -- ugh.

Gameplay is a lot of fun, solo or with friends.

edit: I realized something. It's impossible to figure out all the switches and locks without a guide (since sometimes a pair can be across a huge map, and often, there's no counter or indication of which lock you opened -- "Something Happened!" is just unfair). And it's impossible to figure out the secrets re planks without having beaten the game first.

I have to give this a "no" based solely on the frustration of not being able to unlock new zones. I can forgive the planks, since it IS a bit of a roguelike, and I suppose part of the fun is NewGame+, but still.

This is a beautiful piece of 16-bit magic.
Extremely immersive with friends and family, but it can get lonely
In single-player mode. But fun, nevertheless.

honestly most of my hours are waiting for mana and going to eat and eaving it idle for like 5hrs
This game heavily relies on you just wanting to finish the full game after you beat the first six floors, 1-6 easy, 7-9 are just annoying mazes not hard, and 10-12 you are stockholmed into just wanting to finish
bosses take no skill you either face tank, find a broken tactic, or waste lifes
probably a little more fun multiplayer, not fun, just a little more fun
spoilers below
beat the boss and used a guide to get all the planks because I knew the gimmick, somehow was still 2 short when I know I shouldnt have been

I spent way more time with Hammerwatch than I ever thought possible. I just kept wanting more. The challenge curve is extremely well polished and satisfying, and it all starts with the impeccable level design and pacing.

Usually in the video games market today, you would expect a pixelated art style, dungeon crawling, top-down RPG game like Hammerwatch to implement some kind of procedural generation system for the map design, and usually I would prefer that. But in the case of Hammerwatch, each labyrinth is hand-crafted, and it allowed the developers to engineer the experience exactly as it should be. Each enemy encounter is exciting, and when mixed with the environmental traps, chokepoints, and/or puzzles, they stay fresh and surprising throughout.

The character classes had enough gameplay variety to warrant multiple playthroughs for me, especially if you have a buddy to do a co-op run with.

I played with keyboard and mouse most of the time, and had a great time, but when I finally tried using my gamepad I liked it even more. It's not a necessity, but I would recommend starting with the gamepad if you have one.

A fun timepasser to play with a friend or few. It's alright as a single player but much more fun with others.

Personally, this game was not for me. Its a great game that is similar to Gauntlet, and could be fun in multiplayer. Unfortunately, singleplayer is lacking something. The graphics are cool, the characters are fine and so is the gameplay, but there just isn't anything to give it oomph! There are so many other top-down shooters on the market that are more action packed and fun, like Binding of Isaac, Enter the Gungeon, and Nuclear Throne, that this one doesn't quite match.

For those who like a slower game, or want a multiplayer experience, or want to mess around making some levels, this game may interest you.
