Glory to Arstotzka

The communist state of Arstotzka has just ended a 6-year war with neighboring Kolechia and reclaimed its rightful half of the border town, Grestin.

Your job as immigration inspector is to control the flow of people entering the Arstotzkan side of Grestin from Kolechia. Among the throngs of immigrants and visitors looking for work are hidden smugglers, spies, and terrorists.

Using only the documents provided by travelers and the Ministry of Admission's primitive inspect, search, and fingerprint systems you must decide who can enter Arstotzka and who will be turned away or arrested.

Papers, Please is a testament to the power of games as a medium. It manages to be, all at once, an intellectual stimulation, an escape from reality, and social commentary. It is art, entertainment and work rolled into one. As the player, you are presented with a task that is very much like a lot of paper-pushing jobs out there. Yet here it becomes an intellectual challenge; a test of your mettle and attention. And somehow it is still fun. This is quite an accomplishment in terms of gameplay.

The story, meanwhile, is at once Orwellian and Kafkaesque. It is a kind of social commentary, but not on-the-nose; it is subtle, humourous, nuanced. The recurring characters, with very brief screen time, manage to be interesting and memorable. The Soviet aesthetic is superbly done in terms of design and graphics. The mechanics can be constraining sometimes, but that's part of its charm and challenge.

Above all, this is a game that is sui generis, its own beast. There are games with similar micromanagement mechanics, but the aesthetic and the pacing of Papers, Please make it unique.

Is it ugly to look at? Too be honest, yes. Is it depressing to play? Hell ye. Does it feel like a real job? As much as it can.

But... The setting, the story, the originilaty, the atmosphere, the decisions, the suspense - that all makes it worth your time.

Really amazing and fun Indie typish game, The game is very easy to play and learn, it will get harder tho the more days you make but that doesn't really matter because it is easy to learn it and use the new things, also this game has some parts where there are people coming to ur booth and asking u to do them a favor or etc. or let them pass etc. and its up to you to make the decision to let them pass and risk getting a strike or deny them, this game gets ur feelings tho, because some choices are hard.

But anyways i would highly recommend this game :)!, REALLY FUN and AMAZING :)! Definitely worth Playing.

Papers, Please is simply an amazing game. The graphics style is very good at capturing the ambiance of the late Cold War era in the USSR area. You become very attached to even minute characters, like a guard named Sergiu. It is extremely satisfying when you find discrepencies, but when you hear the noise of a citation, your heart wants to explode in angrivation. Nonetheless, it is a great game with humour, sadness, action, and suspense, and it is highly recommended.

Papers, Please. It's got all the hallmarks of good gaming stamped all over it, polished and accomplished to-a-T... but damn, if I don't feel depressed as hell after playing it. Nothing fun about it. And if "that's the whole point" as they say, well... believe it or not, there are guys out there who aren't blind to history and actually take the time to study it when they aren't gaming. Plenty of suffering to be had there, even as a learner. On the other hand, if you're ignorant and you know it and you really want to show it, then here's another game looking to play surrogate father and teach you a hard lesson.

Caveat emptor.

A game unlike any other you've played, that's for sure. Multiple endings and an endless mode make this one worth the cash. Chances are you'll never be this excited for paperwork ever again.
