Nice D2 like game. Insane skill tree for build customization. Do not care for having to play the same game three times to get to the end game content. Would be nice if you could pick your gender. MTX are a bit pricey. Looking forward to the next expansion that hopefully makes the map system feel like part of the game rather than just a grind for gear.

A beautiful and exciting Diablo 2 remake with a new world, new characters, enemies and bosses, and new graph-like trees for creating your own hero with your own skill variations. With new graphics and free.

The core mechanic is still very much Diablo 2 with added environment interactions (like traps). But even many of the starting tier enemies will use different abilities to slow you down (like mudcrabs and sandspitters cursing you or some kinds of zombies spray ground with tar or poison gas). The game is surely more dynamic and generally more action.
The boss fights are made more interesting. Many bosses now spawn minions, use massive skills with a bit of warning and generally try to entertain.

Overall, the gameplay is smooth, fast and fun for me.

And considering these skill variations mentioned above, one can have an extreme replayability. Even simple fireballs can be used in a lot of different ways, like firing a whole wave of them or having them split on impact or having a "totem" towers spit them. And if the sheer number of active skills taken into account, it would be near-impossible to try them all. But you can surely try.

Passive skill development is a game in itself, finding the best possible way to augment your character's playstyle and skill set. For example, an archer can have their shots do more damage up close while losing it with distance, someone heavily relying on life leech can make it instanteneous while losing life regen, agile fighters can get additional chance to dodge while losing half of their armor and energy shield, mages can get immune to poison damage, scarificing all but 1 of their hit points, and so on. That's not counting huge number of ways the base character can be developed from the starting point.

This is my gem. There are many like it, but this one is mine.
My gem is my best friend. It is my life. I must level it as I must level my life.
Without me, my gem is useless. Without my gem, I am useless. I must use my gem allways.
My gem and I know that what counts in wreaclast is not the arcs we cast, the noise of our critical strikes, nor the smoketrial from our lightning warp. We know that it is the bodies and loot we pile... and we will loot
My gem is an exile, even as I, because it is my life. Thus, I will learn it as a brother. I will learn its weaknesses, its strength, its damage type, its support gems, its cast time. I will keep my gem clean and ready, even as I am clean and ready. We will become part of each other. We will...
Before God "and not dominus", I swear this creed. My gems and I are the inhabitants of thís island. We are the masters of our enemy. We are the saviors of my life.
So be it, until victory of this exile and there is no malachai. \ Arcguy

Here's a few metaphors to describe what I think of this game from a very hardcore Diablo fan.

Diablo 1 is an ugly expensive antique painting that most of us don't care for, but still appreciate it's existence and the influence it's done.

Diablo 2 is a long lost vault filled with treasure and gold, diamonds, and riches as far as the eye could see, and will be remembered for years and years to come.

Diablo 3 is an infamous ragged old satchel with a couple of gold coins in it, and once in a while a couple new coins gets dropped in out of pity.

Path of Exile is a graceful, elegant, and awe-inspiring golden statue of a fabled goddess that tries to breathe comfort and love into those who had their heart and souls crushed by Diablo 3.

I could recommend this game for a good many reason, most of which I notice have already been mentioned by other reviewers.
The best thing, for me, about this game is it's truly open-ended character building. You aren't squished into a rigid, constricted class. Granted, certain classes have certain bonuses to certain stats(ie, Maurader class starts with high strength stats), but beyond that you are perfectly free to build your character into whatever you want them to be.
Skills are gained, not through grinding, leveling up and unlocking them, but by finding skill gems throughout the world. The gems fit into color-coded slots on your armor and weapons.

Some pros and cons:

Pros:
-Free to Play but not Pay to Win
-Easy enough to get into if you have the time. No real background in RPGs needed to enjoy this game.
-Plenty, and I mean PLENTY to do. You will not be bored.
-Maps are randomly generated labrynths. No dungeon will ever be the same twice.
-(this could be a con depending on your tastes) hoards of monsters that inhabit each dungeon. Getting strong enough to mow them down like blades of grass is oh, so satisfying.
-A unique barter system that cuts out gold or other currencies from the game. New players don't start out poor and feel they have to grind just to buy good gear.
-Diablo style loot system. You're going to find the best stuff out there in the game world, not in an NPC's shop.
-(Mostly personal preference here:) No constantly buying potions. Flasks that fill with health potion or mana potion are found as drops ingame and are refilled each time you slay an enemy.

Cons:
-If you like it, it will take over your life.
-Definitely not casual. When you sit down to play, plan on spending at least two hours on one play session.
-Quests become somewhat repetative. "Go here, find this. Come back with something to prove it." Sort of thing. Each dungeon being unique helps cut out any sense of monotony, though.
-Waypoints are few and far between. At maximum, there is one per map. Some maps have multiple levels to them, and the waypoint exists only on one specific level. Some maps lack a waypoint entirely.
-Won't run on a toaster. I tried downloading this game on my old windows 7 toaster, and the game never even made it past the loading screen.

Overall, especially considering the price tag, I am calling this my favorite rpg ever. The graphics are beautiful. The voice acting blew me away considering this is F2P. It's dark and mysterious. Even now that I feel I'm getting the hang of it, I still feel a sense of forboding whenever I enter a new portion of a dungeon.
Some people might call this a Diablo cheap knock-off. Cheap? Well, only if you mean the price tag. It's a very well-thought-out and well-made game. Diablo knock-off? Maybe. It does borrow heavily from the Diablo franchise. I can't personally say how much as I don't play Diablo; but I notice the similarities whenever I watch a youtube video involving the Diablo games and for a moment think "Hey, is that Path of Exile?"
