Patch v0.3006: Content Craziness Plus is now live!

The moment has arrived! The massive content patch is now live on the main branch! This does mean that worlds and characters have been wiped, but we hope that everyone will find the new content well worth it. We will leave the original opt-in patch notes and the opt-in hotfix notes available on the forums, as they list the full changes to the game with this update. You must terraform the entire world, craft armor, weapons, kits, and vehicles to help you explore and conquer. Starting only with a laser pick and the gear from your pod you must immediately start gathering resources to survive. At the absolute edge of space you will adapt or die! Good luck ArkCo Operative!

For a game that's still in early access I must say it's rather nice. I've noticed how others say that the game is lacking in certain aspects, but that's because this game is still in early access. If I had to say what this game is... It would be the Space version of Terraria.

First off let me appologize, I'm not the best at words and this review's probably a bit all over the place, but do yourself a favor and give it a chance.

While this game is quite underdevelopped with stuff like missing info, dev notes on items, out of place and unfinished content (Note all the twits posting bitter reviews. While they do have good points on some of them THIS IS FEEDBACK TO BE GIVEN FOR THE DEVELOPERS, not splattered onto the review section to give the game a bad face. They listen AMAZINGLY well to feedback.), the developers have been producing updates and status reports at a near constant rate and on top of that they are highly responsive in the forums, having replied many times to my silly little posts in the past about small things. They feel like people, not faces put on for a job, and to top it off they feel honest and seem to genuinely care about their game.

To be blunt, I see this game going places if they market it right when the game's finished, I just hope people give this game a chance and help fund it by picking up a copy while it's in early access. It's fairly priced, and as I said before the devs are a stellar example of what developers SHOULD be like, and I can honestly feel the game improving a good amount as the game goes through production with lots of polish and fine tuning, and feedback from the community being taken into account. If you've played this game before and hated it, do yourself a huge favor, give it another go upon release. I might just be overly optimistic, but I have good feelings for this game, and that's saying a lot in the world of scams, lies, "bullzhitting" and greed that is the current gaming industry.

Oh, and if you're wondering why I didn't really talk about the actual game, it's because the game's changing a lot so quickly, to review it while it's doing so would be completely unfair and unreasonable. You can find some info you might be after on the storefront. Just do yourself a favor and ignore the bitter reviews for reasons I've stated already.

And another little note, they have a countdown INGAME for their next updates with info on the patch usually found in the forum, and while this can be off a few days for valid reasons they generally provide, it's pretty reliable.

This game is amazing.
With awesome UI, action-packed gameplay, and hours of fun, Edge Of Space has it all! It has somthing for everyone. Are you a builder? Are you an explorer? Are you a fighter? No matter what you are, this game has somthing for you! This game is only on beta stage, and it already is awesome. I cannot imagine how awesome it will be in the future...

Love this art style for sure and how helpful and friendly the dev team is. I play this game solo and really don't have any plans to play MP.

I do enjoy the idea that all the fighting (for now) is with guns rather than melee. It is hard to get used to because enemies are smaller and fast but you get better over time.

The game itself has just had a UI overhaul and progression is being changed up right now. I have no fear that this game will turn out to be bad in any way. The team listens to us and makes great decisions on their own as well.

I have been part of some rough early access games (Warz :( , The Stomping Land :(( and Starbound :-\ ) so I have had my share of ups and downs. Edge of Space has kept me even, while I want the game to be done I am not demanding them. I know they are working on everything and it will be great no matter what.

I originally came to this game because Starbound was updated and it killed a connection to a mod that made the game fun. (survivalist mod) Obviously starbound is so easy, no challenge at all. This game is actually much harder and makes you feel the need to be careful and play safe at times.
Give Edge of Space a try some time or just keep it in mind and watch for updates!

**THIS IS AN EARLY ACCESS GAME**. Early Access means it's incomplete and they are adding in new features to the game. Usually it takes about 3 years to develop a game. Keep that in mind when making this purchase.

This is a really fun game with lots to do.It is a lot more suvival and combat oriented than it's genre competitors. It offers a unique crafting system where you find codecs and use them to level your crafting, which in turn teaches you new recipes. The more you play, the more recipes you unlock.

This game is made by developers who care about their product and are gamers themselves, which I think is important of any game developer. I really think if you like Terraria (it will be compared no matter what, it is what it is) there's no reason you won't like this. If it were up to me there would be 100 "terraria rip offs" because I love this genre (That's what it is, a genre, not a ripoff).

TL;DR: It's early access so it's missing a lot/most of the features. Not a Terraria rip off. Good game. Worth the 15 dollar price tag.

Finished playing Terraria with a friend and needed a similar game to play. With Gaben's infinite knowledge, steam recommended this game. After looking around and reading reviews for a few days I can honestly say I do not regret buying this a bit. Game felt grindy but with the new system being implemented, that's going to change completely. The devs are active and actually pay attention to people's positive AND negative reviews and react positively to both (Unlike starbound...). The reviews on the developers played a huge part in my purchase and I'll be buying a copy for my friend in the near future (aka the steam sale). Couldn't recommend enough.

Not worth it in it's current state. This was my first "early access" game before I even know what EA was, I unfortunately fell for the trap of some cool trailers and the incorporation of some Terraria elements, making me hope this was a Sci-Fi terraria.

While the fundamentals are the same (a 2d minecraft), the execution is just not even close and the polish of the current state of the game is going to make me wait unto 1.0 release. Upon character creation and the 10+ minute load time (I timed it once) you're forced without choice to go through a tutorial which is extremely frustrating after a character whipe. It lays out the very basics which you then shortly forget and feel very lost in the coming gameplay moments.

Building and equipment progression seems confusing and not very straight forward, it's difficult figuring out where to get some of the less common materials without just randomly digging and hoping to hit a vein and what exactly you should be building next. Unless they aren't implemented yet, the distinct biomes are non existent. I walked a bit away from my spawn point and jumped down a few ledges and started taking environmental damage. I presume this is a barrier to prevent you from digging a hole straight down (a-la terraria) and gathering the best materials within minutes of starting a new game.

I'll update when the retail version is released but at this time I won't be spending anymore time with this game.

This game is so confusing

EDIT: Just to reiterate here, I'm going to give some reasoning. When I first got this game, it was in a very early alpha. Mostly everything was broken and buggy. Well, I decided to re-visit it yeterday, and while there are definatly less bugs, it still need a lot of work. First thing the game does is drops you into this very odd tutorial. They start out with the regular, walking, opening doors, etc. But then you get into crafting. The first thing they want you to make is some sort of lazer, so you go through the confusing process of crafting it (I literally cannot explain it beause it is that confusing), only to find out it takes about 6 seconds to mine 1 peice of dirt. One peice. And they make you mine through a whole tunnel of it. After you get out of this tutorial (which takes about 30-40 minutes) you're dropped into your randomly generated world.

And that's it, no further instructions. Now in say, Terraria, you have the guide to help you along a bit. In this game, they give you nothing. So I spent maybe 20 (?) minutes just walking around. Going through caves, all of which were empty, falling of islands, that's about it. Once this game has some polish to it, and a reworked tutorial, I might give it a third try, but for now I wouldn't recommend this game at all.

What can I say... I bought this with a hope of having a experience similar to Terraria,
since they were in parcery with Re-logic and hadding Terraria based content.

But I only got disappointement!
The menu with your items is confusing! In the start, once you get in the planet It's very difficult to stay alive, mostly cause of weakass weapons, and the mining takes too much time for the same reason!
Both tools and weapons are poor in perfomance!

But I didn't judge like that cause in the future you would take better stuff... right?
Nope! To upgrade anything, It takes amounts of various materials, not to mention:
-the time to mine them (is slow)
-search for them (too much time)
-you have to walk FAR to find more, go into holes and a maze of caverns, making you lost from your outpost.
-limited area (that radiation thing that kills you when you go too much down)
-enemies stronger than you (and weak weapon)

And if you fail for the first time, you will notice you actually got lives!
YEAH! LIVES! Who puts lives on a game based of Terraria?!
But you can make more "lives", but you will have to decide on what to do next!
Spend your materials in making lives and search materials so you can upgrade your weapons, armor and tools, but you will end up lost, surrounded by enemies, and you will eventually will die. Then, you must do more "lives" so you don't lose your progress!
Repeat this times and times! That was my game! A vicious cycle of losing, nerves, and boredom...

I don't recommend this game...
Play Terraria instead... they never disappointed (at least me) with their updates and content...

Edge of Space needs significant improvement before I would recommend that anyone purchase it. The controls are nonintuitive, the interface feels too small and crowded, and currently the game feels like a bad Terraria clone. Your money would be better spent on Starbound if you're interested in this theme.

EDIT: Just went back and played through the tutorial after several months. Everything looks and feels the same. The game is as cumbersome as ever and I did not enjoy trying to get started playing. Once you leave the tutorial level, it is unclear what you're objective within the game is. I had heard mention of UI improvements, but to me, everything looks exactly the same.

I don't know if I'm supposed to play this game with a wiki page open, telling me step by step how to play it all the way through or not. I will admit that Terraria and Starbound have you basically playing with the wiki open as well, but Edge of Space seems to offer very little encouragement when you actually get into the game. Upon exiting the tutorial I was beamed down to the surface of what I assume was a planet, and immediately attacked by floating jellyfish who took a frustrating amount of time to kill. I was given no actual objective, only tossed forward into this environment with very little explaination.

Bottom line: I would not recommend edge of space to anyone. I bought the 4-pack when it went on sale and after playing the game informed my friends that they should not waste any bandwith or hardrive space on it. This game has EXTREMELY cumbersome controls (double tap 'x' to pick up a torch? Really?), lacks visual pop, and has poorly designed UI. Do not purchase this game. Go get Starbound. Some have said that Starbound is a glitchy, dead project. This is untrue. The game is very entertaining with a few friend and totally worth your time.

I understand that this game is still in early access but it needs so much more work before anyone should play it. I've owned it for a long time and am still waiting for any significant progress to take place.

I would not recommend buying this game in its current state. Everything is confusing. You have to do a 5 minute tut after every character you create. It tells you what to do then releases you into the wild with the slight knowledge of the difference between mud and dirt. You make futuristic blocks out of dirt and make laser rifles out of mud.

This is all based on the first hour of gameplay. I have no clue of what later gameplay is like. I bought this game with high hopes just to have it crushed by meaningless minutes of nothingness.

My rating: 1/5

However: Shows potential in future updates.

An entirely forgettable game. Prides itself on having enemies from Terraria, but that shouldn't be a selling point. Played it briefly, hated the controls, disliked the graphics, and died repeatedly from the first group of enemies I encountered. Uninstalled.
