Patch v0.3102 - Holiday Fixin's

Hey ArkCoNauts! This should be our final patch before the holiday, but don’t worry, we’ll be back in action once we revive from our food comas! We do want to let players know that we came across a critical bug in the penguin dungeons, and we will be disabling them for a bit until we lock down what is causing the issue. We will be working hard to resolve that as soon as the holiday break is over.

Fixes

  • Fixed an issue where trees in comet biome could be cut in the center leaving a floating top (Gravity Defied!)
  • Anomalies now have the correct time to complete when the player first encounters them. (They are running like a swiss . . .car) {bonus points: name that reference}
  • Changed the debuffs for Hazard Anomalies so they are less debuffy. (Yay!? *looks for translator*)

Changes
  • Added projectile weapons data unlock to phase weapon track (MOAR!)
  • Added ammo schematics to crafting system (where my bullets at!)
  • Put penguin dungeon back into construction (Crabs are bad party guests!)
  • Updated tutorial exit art (Evacuation Alert!)
  • Added a few Anomalies to the Comet biome.(Danger! Danger!)
  • The Structure Dirt schematic is now given out at the end of the tutorial. You can immediately start making a base with beautiful, (glorious Dirt!)
  • Added an optional quest at the end of the Tutorial that explains how to make a base with a Command Node and Workbench.(survival 102)
  • Hostile small red crabs and red jellies now spawn a little higher in the biome at night (Night time nightmares, if you see them… they can see you!)
  • Head hunter loot has been tuned to give more per chest less for a Pot. Also removed base materials as loot (ARR chests are where the booty is at!)
  • Reduced health of large brown mundo crabs but gave that health to the small brown crabs (Beef conversion)
  • Shrooms in protolife now have looting tables (A grab bag of awesome)
  • Protolife plants got a retune on their drops (More SEEDS!!!!, hint use a laser saw and better saws increase the chance of dropping things)
  • New protolife resource “protoroots” this is common and can be a supplement for metal (I am ROOT!)
  • Torches have had their light they emit and fall off tuned up some more (Are you afraid of the dark?)
  • Proportionately increased the light held by the player to match the lights new tunes ( This little light of mine)

Patch v0.3079 - Gobbling Up Bugs!

Hey ArkCoNauts! Got another patch for you today, fixing a number of bugs that crept up in the content patch. We still have a long list to go, but we will be working at a slower pace this week due to the Thanksgiving holiday. The team will be taking some much needed time with family and friends, but rest assured, after the holiday we’ll be right back here crushing bugs and balancing and polishing all the new content. We want to wish our stateside fans a safe and happy Thanksgiving, don’t let those turkeys bite back!

Fixes

  • The Detonator 1 schematic now makes the correct item.
  • Fixed an issue that caused ammo max counts to improperly display
  • Fixed an issue that caused players to receive xp from plasma tree plasma projectiles when they expire (also applies to some other creature projectiles)
  • Fixed an issue that prevented Command Control Centers from respecting their placement limit
  • Added a banner text to alert player about CCC placement limits
  • Fixed an issue that prevented background bombs from damaging nearby entities in MultiPlayer
  • Fixed an issue that caused chests on MP servers to remain locked if player used the close button on the chest UI
  • Banner text for item pickup now show the number of items you picked up instead of (0)
  • Fixed an issue where players logging onto a server would login with their shield partially depleted
  • Fixed an issue that allowed players to gain infinite xp from attempting to mine tiles under trees
  • Fixed an issue that prevented keybindings from being remapped
  • Fixed an issue that caused some jetpacks to regen energy slowly
  • Fixed an issue that caused phase mortars to kill players without showing damage to shields or health
  • Fixed an issue where death popup would not properly trigger if player let it time out while MCP is out of cryorods

Changes
  • Changed the art for the enemy health bar
  • Modified Banner text to be displayed above any other menus present.
  • Doubled the range of command center 1 and 2 compared to command node
  • Removed auto harvesters (kit and consumables) due to coding issues

About This Game

Suit up as an operative of the Ark Corporation, sent to the farthest reaches of the universe in search of habitable planets to terraform. However, after the long space journey you awaken from cryosleep to find that your ship has gone way off course and is disabled near a strange new world. With no choice but to descend to the surface and figure out how to survive long enough to complete your mission, you step into the escape pod.

Along the way you’ll gather resources to craft armor, weapons, facilities, and vehicles to help you explore the world and conquer its aggressive inhabitants. Your base of operations will evolve from a few basic facilities exposed to the elements into a hardened fortress full of advanced technologies that let you accomplish amazing improvements to your equipment and alter the environment itself.

Be careful, though; almost everything down there wants to kill you, including fierce laser space sharks, artillery-toting polar bears, wickedly quick jetpack penguins, and even crazier horrors. Out on the Edge of Space, you must adapt or you die. Good luck, ArkCo Operative!

Key Features (Launch Version)

  • Open World Exploration– Dynamically-generated 2D sandbox set in the deepest recesses of space, explore randomly generated caverns, wormhole anomalies and dive deeper into the planet to discover valuable resources and other rare phenomenon.
  • Crazy Creatures – Hordes of enemies and epic bosses ranging from Artillabears, squid pandas, jetpack space penguins, and laser space sharks; not to mention epic bosses like DJ Penguin and Omegatron
  • Cooperative Exploration – Engrossing gameplay, built from the ground up, to support multiplayer focusing on cooperative exploration and combat with team-based tactics.
  • Advanced Crafting System - Using the power of science, craft advanced technology for weapons, gear and base constructions from basic resources
  • Loads of Armor – Ranging from stat boosting battle armor to quirky vanity costumes, craft armor to survive the changing environmental conditions and specialize in different aspects of mining, exploration, and combat.
  • Weapons – Create a wide-variety of dynamically generated weapons ranging from guided rocket launchers to Experimental Gauss Rifles and discover new advanced weaponry to expand your arsenal.
  • Research System – A new research system allows players more freedom to discover new areas of technology in exploration, combat, base building, and much more.
  • Command Center Management – Establish your central base of operation by creating the ultimate Command Center customized with defensive turrets, hangers and repair drones. Make improvements to protect yourself from the constant environmental changes like radiation storms and other anomalies.
  • PIOS (Power Input Output Systems) – A simple drag and drop tool, letting you design electrical systems as basic as powering a light or as complex as creating your own logic gates.
  • Pets – Create and collect pets that assist you on your epic exploration of space by granting defensive, offensive, or exploration perks.
  • Anomalies - Random world events both dangerous and helpful
  • Vehicles - Craft items from hover boards to massive mechs to safely explore the dangerous world
  • Terraforming - Conquer space by turning the land into a livable habitat
  • Continual Support – Regular post-launch updates will bring fresh new content

(Many features listed above are currently in the game but since we are still in Early Access some will be added in the future. Vehicles and Terraforming are among them.)

Early Access Review
First off let me appologize, I'm not the best at words and this review's probably a bit all over the place, but do yourself a favor and give it a chance.

While this game is quite underdevelopped with stuff like missing info, dev notes on items and unfinished content (Note all the twits posting bitter reviews. While they do have good points on some of them THIS IS FEEDBACK TO BE GIVEN FOR THE DEVELOPERS, not splattered onto the review section to give the game a bad face. They listen AMAZINGLY well to feedback.), the developers have been producing updates and status reports at a near constant rate and on top of that they are highly responsive in the forums, having replied many times to my silly little posts in the past about small things. They feel like people, not faces put on for a job but at the same time remain professional, and to top it off they feel honest and seem to genuinely care about their game.

To be blunt, I see this game going places if they market it right when the game's finished, I just hope people give this game a chance and help fund it by picking up a copy while it's in early access. It's fairly priced, and as I said before the devs are a stellar example of what developers SHOULD be like, and I can honestly feel the game improving a good amount as the game goes through production with lots of polish and fine tuning, feedback from the community being taken into account, and big bugs that pop up are usually fixed very quickly. If you've played this game before and hated it, do yourself a huge favor, give it another go upon release. I might just be overly optimistic, but I have good feelings for this game, and that's saying a lot in the world of scams, lies, "bullzhitting" and greed that is the current gaming industry.

Oh, and if you're wondering why I didn't really talk about the actual game, it's because the game's changing a lot so quickly, to review it while it's doing so would be completely unfair and unreasonable. You can find some info you might be after on the storefront. Just do yourself a favor and ignore the bitter reviews for reasons I've stated already.

And another little note, they have a countdown INGAME for their next updates with info on the patch usually found in the forum, and while this can be off a few days for valid reasons they generally provide, it's pretty reliable.

this game is getting a LOT of negative reviews and I see some same complaints-- No tutorial (There wasnt, there is now) - cant skip the tutorial (You obviously DIDNT read anything at all, did you?) - There's no content updates blah blah or theres not enough of X in the game yet... well I have been involved in a TON of early access projects (DayZ pops into my mind when people say "No content") and I would personally want them to re-hash and re-do gameplay mechanics before adding content, and this one has gone from having nothing but tiles, to having a power grid, to having a control system (Machines need command nodes to run) and more, and more content and bosses... went from having nothing but a few penguins with rocket launchers to terraria crossover bosses and random events... it is still early and the team may not be as large as you would like, but development is constant, and consistent-- meaning they arent working on other projects with early access money from this, at least not to the point its affecting development. Most complaints are people "I cant find ores" those people are used to easier games (Like terraria, which is fun, but face it, not hard at all) this game forces you to completely upgrade before moving much further through an exposure system (Go too low, die from the planets core radiation. makes perfect sense, but most people cry) and extremely tough enemies that dont take much damage from the starter guns.

All in all I am excited to see where they go with the rest of this project. As 2 out of 5 biomes are done as of this review, and countless systems still planned, and some tweaks to existing ones. Amazing progression system if you arent a crybaby.

TL:DR: Most reviews on this game are because people are stupid and don't read, this game is solid, and has constant updates and shows not just promise, but progress.... suppourt it if you liked terraria but it was too easy

This game is one of the good examples for Early Acces. The Dev team is really nice and are very present and working with the community. Constant patches and addet content keeps making the game get better and better and i don´t regret buying into this at all. The art style, music and ambient is just awesome and everyone who like this genre should give it a try.
Even tho it got Terraria content in it it is by far not a clone and got it´s own unique feeling to it as it is more focused on action and plays more like a metroid game when it comes to progression and gunplay.
A big thumbs up from me .

I've invested in one or two early access games but what I like about Edge Of Space is the fact that they frequently update the game. To me that's a plus and the Devs seem to be dedicated and involved. Alot of people may be unhappy because they want the full game immediately but I find the pace is good so far. From the little time I've spent on it the game has a great deal of potential to find its own niche among titles like Terraria or Starbound.

Love this art style for sure and how helpful and friendly the dev team is. I play this game solo and really don't have any plans to play MP.

I do enjoy the idea that all the fighting (for now) is with guns rather than melee. It is hard to get used to because enemies are smaller and fast but you get better over time.

The game itself has just had a UI overhaul and progression is being changed up right now. I have no fear that this game will turn out to be bad in any way. The team listens to us and makes great decisions on their own as well.

I have been part of some rough early access games (Warz :( , The Stomping Land :(( and Starbound :-\ ) so I have had my share of ups and downs. Edge of Space has kept me even, while I want the game to be done I am not demanding them. I know they are working on everything and it will be great no matter what.

I originally came to this game because Starbound was updated and it killed a connection to a mod that made the game fun. (survivalist mod) Obviously starbound is so easy, no challenge at all. This game is actually much harder and makes you feel the need to be careful and play safe at times.
Give Edge of Space a try some time or just keep it in mind and watch for updates!

Finished playing Terraria with a friend and needed a similar game to play. With Gaben's infinite knowledge, steam recommended this game. After looking around and reading reviews for a few days I can honestly say I do not regret buying this a bit. Game felt grindy but with the new system being implemented, that's going to change completely. The devs are active and actually pay attention to people's positive AND negative reviews and react positively to both (Unlike starbound...). The reviews on the developers played a huge part in my purchase and I'll be buying a copy for my friend in the near future (aka the steam sale). Couldn't recommend enough.

**THIS IS AN EARLY ACCESS GAME**. Early Access means it's incomplete and they are adding in new features to the game. Usually it takes about 3 years to develop a game. Keep that in mind when making this purchase.

This is a really fun game with lots to do.It is a lot more suvival and combat oriented than it's genre competitors. It offers a unique crafting system where you find codecs and use them to level your crafting, which in turn teaches you new recipes. The more you play, the more recipes you unlock.

This game is made by developers who care about their product and are gamers themselves, which I think is important of any game developer. I really think if you like Terraria (it will be compared no matter what, it is what it is) there's no reason you won't like this. If it were up to me there would be 100 "terraria rip offs" because I love this genre (That's what it is, a genre, not a ripoff).

TL;DR: It's early access so it's missing a lot/most of the features. Not a Terraria rip off. Good game. Worth the 15 dollar price tag.

Edited: Trimming some fat, correcting grammar, etc.

Edge of Space just does not even come close to being a decent game. In beta for a while now nothing seems different, it feels like someone just ate terraria and starbound and barfed them back up with some crap GI joe action figures they ate as kids. I have tried a few times over the months and I cant see this game becoming an outstanding game. Maybe I will be wrong which I hope I am, because at this point I have paid for something that is just as good to me as a banana peel in the garbage bin. How the terraria guys even let them put some of their content into this game is beyond me its really not that fun. Go get starbound thats in early access and it is a joy to play. This game just does not have what it takes to be an amazing game.

This is a review in it's current state.

I understand this game is still in beta, but in it's current state I'm not a fan. I definitely see the potential of this game and can forsee it being a really fun and addictive game like Terraria. Right now it's just frustrating. Especially since this game has been out in beta for over a year and the feel hasn't changed. It's sad when 3 of my friends and I can't stand to play this more than an hour every 3-4 months we try it.

Many items that you find early in game have absolutely 0 use or in the item details it shows "Will be updated in the future" or some nonsense. The inventory feels clunky and can be buggy when swapping things in and out of your actionbars.

For those of you who played Terraria, if you enjoyed the helper dude being there to somewhat guide you in the right direction you're going to have a harder time. The beginning gives you a brief sense of direction but then it's gone. To understand what a lot of things do, you must either spend lots of time trying to figure it out on your own or look it up on the wiki.

While I feel games do need to have a little but of challenge in them, I'm not sure the start of this game goes in the right direction with that. Your mining tool is painfully slow. Your starting weapon is painfully weak. Materials needed to upgrade anything are way high. You also have lives in this game. So as you're digging down trying to find some sort of material you need to make an item you have no clue what it does, you come across some crabs that take 15 shots to kill with your weak gun and they kill you. You've spent 20 minutes digging, lost a life, and still have 0 of the material you need.

The soundtrack is nice. Which is one thing I expected after playing Terraria and Starbound. Visuals look good for the most part. The gameplay just has a long way to go until I feel it will be fun.

If you want a new Terraria style game, go pick up starbound instead. You'll be completely satisfied! Maybe in another year I can say the same about this.

Great game in the vein of Terraria or Starbound, but honestly it's quite a lot different. The art style is quite great and the newest update really fleshed this game out and made it a ton of fun. I've had it early access for quite some time now and was a bit afraid when the updates stopped coming, then all of a sudden BAM they put out the king of updates. I cane safely say this game is well worth the price especially if you like metroidvania exploration platformers. The interface takes some getting used to, but works very well once you do get used to it. It actually makes quite a lot of sense for something so far stretched from similar games.

Really honestly give this a chance, it's got a lot of potential and they are certainly doing their best to make us happy.

It's one of those games where you have no idea what to do, then do something, then don't know what you're gonna do next. And you can't find anything to do. You start digging and finding things. Then you do more things. And then repeat.

In my 2 hours of EoS (Edge of Space) I've barely even touched the surface of it. I'll say this - If your looking for something quick, then as of right now I personally think it isn't for you - It takes time to do stuff in edge of space, It isn't a quick little miner. Would I recommend this game from the very little time I've played it? Yes.
