Sometimes the total is less than the sum of the parts.

When evaluating any given aspect or element of Transistor on its own, I find greatness - but everytime I try to really get into the game... It is, well... Ho hum. The artwork and soundtrack are brilliant. The combat is definately a fresh take on the action RPG genre, and certainly offers a lot of customization and thought. The universe is fairly inspired, albeit lonely.

It is difficult for me to put my finger on exactly what drags this title down. Perhaps it is the pacing? Watching her laboriously drag that sword around is just about how my mind feels after about an hour in-game. The combat is fun for a bit, but then becomes a bit overbearing and repetitive. I don't particularly feel that the story is overly engaging, either. It is a bit too abstract, perhaps.

Once again, I'm not sure what it is - but I don't think I'll be back to finish this title. I really loved Bastion, and I give major respect to the devs for creating Transistor and really thinking outside of the box to make something so beautiful, but I just wish it was more engaging and fun.

Entitled ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥s wreck the joint, then stab your fave with a technologically unique sword. You then pick up said unique sword and go on a killing spree. A very very pretty, gorgeous killing spree. There's no downside to this game, it's just wondrous and beautiful and perfection.

The Transistor is a story about love, melancholy and genuine grief. It's about a man and a woman who are in love, and who readily sacrifice for their feelings. This is immensely appealing. If you are looking for an escape to a dark and gloomy world, which can suprisingly be also dangerously calm and rumanitive, then you might have just found your thing. Highly recommended.

I'm not really sure what to say. The game is really pretty and the music is fantastic (REAL GOOD OKAY!?!). It just all comes together really well. The gameplay is also good (if you like turn-based/strategy and action games being smooshed together, which I did enjoy). I FrEAkINg HAtE THE DOG ENeMiES THOuGH(why do they attack fast, also have a lot of health, and also run too fast?!?! (friendly dog is good though))

...Anyways...Continuing on...

The voice acting is also very good and I became quite attached to the main characters. And the story is really nice, and-

...This game just left me with too many feels, okay?

Oh, and the game isn't super long, but not really short either (maybe around Portal length). It took me 10ish hours while doing a lot of the challenge mission thingies, but I didn't do all of them (the dogs' fault mainly). So if you're worried about that then just wait for a sale, but if you don't care about that then I'd say buy away.

What a masterpiece, Bastion was very good but this was just awesome. The narration in those two games makes for a truly magic experience, this game is like a song you cherish. I started the game again as soon as I finished it, I never do that..! The combination of the different attacks you can do make for a varied gameplay and the art is just as amazing as it is imaginative. Easy to grasp in every way and you can crack up the battles almost as much as you like, so it's definitely a buy. I would even buy at full price because it's such a gem for me and I like to support developers that deserve their money if we want them to make more awesome game..!

This is one of the most moving experiences in my gaming history. The setting, the music, the characters, the dialogs, the atmosphere - it's all just perfect.

The last time a game, a movie or a book put me in such a mood was my first play through Planescape: Torment. And it's been over 15 years ago.

Kudos to Supergiant Games and everybody involved. Soundtrack - oh man, this is something special. Thank you Ashley and Darren for this unexpected wonder!

You know, I don't believe i have ever played a game, finished it, and just sat there, my hands covering my mouth, in awe of what I had just played. The art was stunning and beautiful. The music was absolutely amazing. The combat was intuitive and smooth. I can't describe the feeling the game gives you as you run through the city, watching it be taken over peice by peice. I absolutely admire this game and it's creators. If i had to rate it, I would give it a 100/10. I would recommend this to anyone and everyone. It is a beautiful game and deserves the praise it gets.

Transistor is excells in gameplay quality, originality, appearance, and of course it's unique soundtrack. The combat system is creative and fun to experiment with, and the environments are stunning, and the story is gripping. It's one of the best game purchases I've ever made.

In One Sentence:

Uncover mysteries, upgrade your weapon, and face believable antagonists in this beautifully-crafted quest to save your world, your lover, and yourself.

My Opinion:
***** A top pick
**** I recommend it
*** I like it (with caveats)
** This wasn't for me
* I cannot recommend this to anyone

Gameplay:

Use your living sword to fight groups of enemies and upgrade the sword. New abilities can be used in one of three ways: as a primary ability, to bolster another ability, or as a passive, always-on benefit. You can switch abilities around at any checkpoint, where you can also customize your difficulty level. Optionally, you can enter a semi-pause mode to queue up rapid attacks at the cost of waiting for a cooldown. The upgrades are numerous enough that you will not get them all on the first playthough, providing incentive to play new game plus. My first playthough took about sixteen hours, with another six hours to play through new game plus the first time.

What I Like About This Game:

+ superb narration
+ excellent artwork
+ great music
+ sympathetic antagonists
+ huge amount of choice and freedom to experiment with weapon abilities
+ unique choose-your-own-difficulty mechanic which provides small benefits for increasing the difficulty in very specific ways, encouraging you to play at the edge of your abilities
+ sensible new game plus mode works well with the above difficulty mechanic

What I Don't Like About This Game:

- It's not always clear when going down a path will result in permanently leaving the area
- Story can be opaque at times
