And the best thing about it is that you control all parts of the characters development and even each generation of powers! What more can you ask for in a game? Nothing! Agarest has everything.”

About This Game

At the dawn of time, a terrible war raged between the forces of good and evil, ending in the destruction of the world of Agarest. After their victory, the Gods of Light unified the decaying bodies of the Gods of Darkness and created a new world.

Now, the forces of darkness are awakening once again…

• Choose the path of Darkness or Light through a truly epic story, spanning multiple generations
• Battle hundreds of different creatures using an array of character abilities, in a compelling and innovative turn-based combat system
• Build your ultimate army of warriors and master Extra Skills, Special Arts and Over Kills to defeat colossal enemies!
• Unite with your chosen heroine and use the “Soul Breed” system to shape the fate of the next generation of heroes

Agarest: Generations of War - Exclusive game features!

Agarest: Generations of War includes many unique features that cannot be found in any other Strategy Role Playing Game. Here's a summary of some of the best:

Extended Area

Extended Area is the "Linked Area" set for both your party and your enemies. Each character in the game has a uniquely shaped extended area. When a character's turn comes around, all other characters in the Extended Area of the character in play (and characters in the extended areas of those characters!) can combine in an extended attack. This allows you to chain your party's attacks together, allowing access to more Arts and huge Combos!

Blacksmith's Guild
You can upgrade various Items and Equipment at the Blacksmith's Guild in two different ways:

By Enhancement: You can enhance equipment to a maximum of Level 5. Once an Item is enhanced to Level 5, you can convert the Item, changing it into something else. This process is irreversible and the original item is lost. Experimentation reveals some great new items!

Through Alchemy: Alchemy allows you to combine several items to create a single, more powerful piece of equipment. While you lose the items used in the alchemy, you gain a powerful new piece of equipment and permanent access to your new item in the Shop! Alchemy can create powerful new weapons and armour but occasionally a Smithing Accident will occur and the smith will create a different item than what you expected!

The "Soul Breed" system
Agarest takes place across 5 generations of heroes, starting with your first character, Leonhardt. During each generation you will build relationships with 3 different female party members, and at the end of each generation's story arc you must choose to marry one of the girls.

Your choice of marriage partner is restricted to girls who've grown fond of you over a particular generation. Your options are determined by your choices during conversations at certain points of the story.

The girl you choose as your wife - and the strength of their relationship with you - will determine the abilities of the main character in the next generation of the story. You'll have to experience multiple play throughs to see all of the character possibilities open to you! What heroes might you create?

I'm not used to tactical games but this one got my attention because of it's story and artwork.
Agarest is a great game, but if you're gonna like it or not, will depend of what motivates you during your gameplay.

Pros:
+The story has a really good concept(play through generations of the same family) and it's well applied.
+All main characters are charismatics and well made, either because of their personality or appearance.
+The artwork and soundtrack are both really good.
+The battles with tons of combos and combined attacks can be really entertaining to see.

Neutral(Can be a "Pro" or "Con", heavily depends on personal opinion):
*This game is heavily based on reading, just like a visual novel.
*This game is long, you can either think it's long enough or too long.

Cons:
-After some hours, the gameplay/battle can become annoying.
-The item drop, item crafting, skill crafting and monster fusion systems are sometimes hard to deal with.
-There aren't too much battle scenarios, you'll probably have that "Déjà vu" feeling.

This game is actually a really good game despite some of the negative reviews here. Most of these negative reviews are because the game runs kinda slow. However there is a really easy tweak for making the game run super smooth.

Go into the folder where you installed the game. Locate the Agarest.ini file. ( Might have to run the game once for it to appear. )

Find this line : LockWindowFrameRate=30.000000

Change the value 30 to 60 and save and exit.

I have played with this setting for 70 hours and have NOT encountered a single issue. I do however have a pretty decent computer and therefore it might not work on old systems. But for me the game runs really great after doing this!

So if u like SRPG games and turn based strategy. Get this game and do this simple tweak and enjoy a truly great story with beautiful characters, dialogues, battle system, artwork and hundreds of hours of gameplay.

I'm reccommending this, though not for general play. Those who aren't willing to start their first run on hard, adhere to a "perfect path" guide and refer to an underkept wiki constantly for necessary strategic information need not apply.

That being said, don't knock it 'til you try it!

2 Stars - A slice of JRPG culture that may not appeal to new entrants to this style.

Although the game trys to build on a strong platform of coordinated tactical battles and gripping Japanese story telling I found this game missed the mark.

I am not a regular in the JRPG arena and I found this game to be a slugging grindfest. Repititive tatical battles are often duplicated and unengaging. The base game comes with a level of DLC type content which should mean that a small portion of your party is over powered from the start while the rest are left looking weak and fragile. So I added additional DLC weapons and found my OP party stuck grinding pixies in a forest.

There are other aspects to this game (crafting, battle pets, etc) but these only slowed the game down further. Overall if you not sure this is the game for you it proabably isn't.

Pros -
Anime / Story

Cons -
Grinding
Poor DLC mix
Graphics
Repititive
