DuckTales x Classic Capcom fan art

12 Νοεμβρίου 2013

Quacks by the quarter...

DuckTales was born at a time when arcades were omnipresent throughout America. In fact, DuckTales (the show) and the original Street Fighter were released about a month apart from one another back in 1987.

So with that in mind, it seemed more than fitting that we showcase user-submitted fan art that paid glorious homage to that forgotten pastime of gaming by the quarter (but you'll find some scattered tributes to NES games from that era too.) Here are some of our favorite “Duckifications” of classic Capcom titles born unto cabinets honor of DuckTales: Remastered.

Featuring hand-drawn animated sprites, authentic Disney character voices talent and richly painted level backgrounds from the classic cartoon TV series, Scrooge McDuck and family come to life like never before. The gameplay retains the authenticity of its 8-bit predecessor; simple and fun, with slight modifications to improve gameplay flow and design. I'm almost 30 years old and I'm not ashamed to admit I absolutely love this game, I grew up with the original on "NES" and this remake was faithfully remastered, the beautiful sprite animation, remastered soundtrack and lots of extra artwork to unlock will keep you busy for a couple of hours easily.

This game makes me wish Capcom would bring more classic remakes to steam, especially "MegaMan: Powered Up" and "MagaMan: Maverick Hunter X" (PSP) the entire time I played this awesome game I couldn't help but be reminded of those two awesome remakes as well, COME ON CAPCOM, get off your ♥♥♥!!! Please :P

DuckTales: Remastered is an excellent release of one of my childhood favorites. There are a few mechanical problems (hard pogo and stairs rarely function in tandem), but they should not be enough to ruin the experience for someone pursuing the game for what it is. The newest patch removed what I believed to be the worst part of the game - the long cutscenes. If you enjoy platformers there is no reason not to pick this game up.

+ Platforming that feels classic, yet much improved
+ Charming graphics
+ "Remastered" soundtrack fits the game well

+/- The "Normal" difficulty has limited lives which you may find frustrating

- Cutscenes appear far too often

A wonderful and loving remake of a classic early 90's NES hit.

Platforming at it's almost best. A unique mechanic (The Pogo Stick of Doom, wielded by ol'Scrooge) brings around a bouncing mechanic not found in normal 2D platformers. In an age where we see new and innovative stuff churned out in this genre almost every year, this project brought together the essence of the old NES Game.

This however brought along a few hiccups which are annoying at most. The cut-scenes are a wee bit dull, and only skippable if you select "Skip Cutscene" in the pause menu. The final boss is just as annoying as it was in the original which is either my bad memory, or an oversight.

In this nostalgia romp for yours truly, I enjoyed this game for exactly what it was. A trip down memory lane in the city of Duckburg, only done in a visual style that reminded me of an episode of the show.

7.5/10. Would recommend to young ones, Platforming fiends, and those who have a soft spot for the penny-pinching McDuck Clan.
