i've played this game for many more hours outside of steam and let me tell you... DONT. not only is the fact that you go into some cringey weird japanese manga style EVERY TIME you use a skill, but if you don't want to look like everyone else (the armor from lvl 1 to max only has about 5 different styles for each charactor) and i mean EXACTLY like everyone else, its ♥♥♥♥ing $30. and its not even a permenant costume. ntm this game has a stamina system and lets you PAY for more stamina. im not even gonna get started on anything else. this is all you need to know. don't bother.

Alright so i've played a little bit of this game, and what I find most about it is that it's repetitive. Very repetetive.
Will I keep playing? probably, But I can't give this game a good review. As much as I'm sure all of you would like this to be a good review.

Now When I say it's repetitive, I mean that the storyline is practically the same for ALL characters, I'll admit the gameplay is slightly different for some characters, And the job changes offer a small bit of interest for all of five minutes. But overall the gameplay becomes repetitive, The quests are just meh, And quite frankly the "pay to have op stuff" tactic is ♥♥♥♥ poor design.

TLDR: The gameplay is repetitive, The quests are repetitive, The characters don't feel different enough. And don't get me started on the in game real money shop.

I appreciate that the devs put a lot of time into this but quite frankly I don't care for it.

This game rates at 3.2/10 from me, And even that I feel is too generous.

I would recommend this game, but it would be nice if there was a Mac Version for this game, because I recently got a new macbook pro and I can't play this game, unlike when I had a windows laptop. 10/10 would recommend this game tho!

A nice beat-em-up RPG. a nice quest system, great outfits, and lots of other reasons to play this great game. The costumes SEEM pay-to-win. However, you can access nearly all costumes for free. only level 15 and i'm already addicted to Elsword. Being a Free-to-play on this grants you the basics, just not all the extras. Overall, I really like this game, and reccommend it to everyone!

Ok now that i've played this game for 650+ hours, i think i know what im talking about when i say this game ISNT paid to win at ALL. 650 hours into this game and i haven't spent a single DIME on it. People say "ohhh but you have to PAY to get more skills ohhh" and whine about it. They act like it is IMPOSSIBLE to win in pvp without 4 extra skills, like you have absolutely no chance and you're at such a low disadvantage that it isn't even worth trying. Let me teach you something about Elsword Mr. 30 Hours. It may seem like some characters are better than others, like how Lu/Ciel is 2 characters instead of 1, so there is no way you can beat them, but if you played every class for every character, you would know that they are completely balanced. No matter who you choose, you can still beat somebody who is the opposite character. Like a Physical Attacker like Elsword has the same chance at beating a Magical Attacker like Rena like how an Elesis has the same chance at beating an Add. People only say "new characters are OP" because they have a different mechanic than others. Go ahead, prove me wrong. When Ara came out: "OP cuz hits too much" Elesis: "OP cuz too much strength" Add: "OP cuz range" LuCiel: "OP cuz 2 instead of 1" Rose: "OP cuz 4 weapons" I think i made my point. I do recomend it to people who are willing to PLAY THE GAME to get good, instead of wasting money to get 4 skills, then complain.

This is Elsword in a nutshell for every new player:

Want a custom? 30 dollars please!
Want a pet? 6 dollars, wanna turn that pet into a pic up pet? 5 dollars please!
Want a custom pose,face,skill cut-in 3.50 dollars please!
Wanna have more that 4 skill on your skill bar? 9 dollars please!
Wanna have more that 3 items on your quick slot bar? 6 dollars please!
Wanna have more than 1 skill page? 5 dollars please!

This is for every new character you create!

I just can't recommend this game to any of my friends or anyone, this game its just a giant cash cow!

I have just spend too much time and money into this game to quit...

And that comment that say you can get all that stuff with time and effort is just a shameless lie, so unless you have a big wallet with money to spear dont waste your time on this game.

P.S: the pvp is pay to win too.

So my total play time has clocked in at around 263 hours, and its not an important number but its something to keep an eye on. I started playing this game back in 2013, and reason I don't have 1000+ hours on this game, is because there is nothing fun about this game. PVE is nice, in the sense you can play with friends, get better skills, and maybe have a good laugh. However as with every MMO RPG game out on the market there is a fair amount of grinding that is needed to be done. Elsword however is maybe an exception to that. (Go to bottom for the summery)
(Just so you know im gonna list all my characters so you can get a feel for my general point of view as a player)

LV 84 Lord Knight (Elsword)
LV 75 Diabolic Esper (Add)
LV 58 Rune Slayer (Elsword)
and a LV 79 Blade Master (Raven)

With that in mind, lets get started.
PVE: Is the only thing worth doing in this game unless you want to rip your hair/balls off in a fit of your own rage. Never in my life have I even been called so many names, then when I started playing COD in the 6th grade... Of course PVE is a nicer community than the PVP, and is mainly balanced in the power of all characters... other than health. Most dungeon crawlers can rely on their skills rather than there ability to do platform sweeps or stpring steps. And all in all is a much better way of playing the game. Granted its hell to grind in this game, and you won't get as far as level 60 without needing a EXP medal or EXP event, cause other wise you gonna spend a entire week grinding out this game. But thats to be expected from a MMO RPG, as well as a free one at that.

So with all of that, you may ask now "Well it sounds good, so why the no for a recommendation?" Well I will tell you, because PVP. A part of the game that only gives it a good replay value other than new characters coming out. And this is where all the salt is. You thought to yourself "KOG made a real good game here! All the characters are balanced, its not pay to win at all!" Well, welcome to PVP.

PVP: You know those comic strips where there is a person just thinking its gonna be a good day, and then someone labeled as "LIFE" comes in and kicks them in the balls? Well imagine your that guy going into PVP at first coming from the PVE side thinking "im good at this game!" well think again fcker, cause this game is harder than you think it is! Its unreal the difficulty level from PVE to PVP, not just the fact you need to know what your doing, but its not even fair. For 3 reasons.
1. Not all characters are made equal
2. SD gear is better than PVP
3. ITS PAY TO ♥♥♥♥♥♥ WIN
For example. Your playing a Lord Knight (LK) and you go up against a Blade Master (BM), a BM will automaticly have a speed advantage over the LK. LK's might hit harder and have high health, but they move as slow as a melting stick of butter going down a hill. The LK gets out of a combo and turns the fight around, and gets the BM down to little health. Raven pulls out his lag and gets out of a combo and kills you, and then taunts you by saying "Why are you even here?" or "QQ". Another example is a Ara going up against ♥♥♥♥♥♥ anyone, and they can win just by X dropping. Or a Rena arrow spamming you into a corner. Or just some guy who has SD gear, and a ♥♥♥ ton of PVP itesm from the item store rapping the ♥♥♥ out of you. Its not enjoyable in the slightest.
Doesn't even help that KOG hates older characters. The only character KOG likes are the newer ones that make them money, all the older ones arn't even worth paying attention to. Which is annoying because KOG doesn't fix their broken ♥♥♥ game -_-. Now you CAN win in this game, its not imposible. As a matter of fact, its far from it. That example at the begining: Elswords have a good enough chance at beating a Raven as a Raven does beating an Elsword. its not balanced mind you, but its not like you CANT win.

Summery:
PVE:
PVE is good, and is the only thing that is fun in this game. Granted it can get repetative and boring, but thats the genre of the game your playing. Leveling can get annoying sometimes, and gear really doesnt matter to much, but its a good idea to gave the best you can get. Skills are well balanced between good PVE and bad PVE and the story is long and "interesting" to say the least. And you really don't need to buy to many items, other than a costume and a EXP medal, but those are 100% optional.

PVP:
PVP sucks, and its the only reason why I don't recommend this game. If it wasn't that big of a deal, it wouldn't be the reason why I dislike this game so much. Its bad enough that KOG only lets you have 4 out of the 8 skill slots available to your character but when you litterally can't do anything because the guy your fighting spams the same move, and runs all the time, its just not fun. And yeah you can fix that by actually being good at PVP, but somestimes you just cant beat the guy who spams. You can win but its not all the time (as expected), but you have a good enough chance to win as you do lose, you just gotta "get gud".

Final thoughts:
In my original review for this game I gave it a rating of "Stay the ♥♥♥♥ away/1,000,000" however I just cant say the same thing anymore. By all means this game ISN'T BAD, and I suggest you do play it. But to keep in mind this game isn't balanced, and it isn't fair. So watch out when you jump into it. By all means you can have fun in PVP but if you are to competative I suggest not to do it, because it will end out with you being as salty as the dead sea. Or you can go onto the internet and learn how to play PVP, than maybe you wont want to kys, but hey, dont take my word for it, look at others who agree or disagree, they may make better points then me.

Rating:
7/10 - If only PVP didn't make me want to drink bleach.

==mainly used the official and non-steam client==

3/10 boring and a lifeless sellout

KOG continues to fail to learn how and when to release characters Rose (and a shameless sellout sponsorship for DFO)however Rose is not a bad character it's just the timing of Rose is horrible, we have way too many classes as it stands now with range specialization in this game.

What made this game trually amazing when it was released years ago was it's fascinating, complex, and unique cast of characters up to ara they all had some sort of feel and didn't try to act like the next megaman/danmaku/ninja gaiden (arcade) gameplay style rip off they actually made the game feel like its own particiular fun style. I do not any longer support this game for it is no longer on the path that made it one of my favorites balancing issues aside it focuses too hard on whats popular in anime and gaming guns instead of focussing upon the core mechanics of what made Elsword amazing and a true fun thing to play through I mean yes the story has improved alot but the gameplay is stale and the end game just feels lazily thrown in with boring grinding dungeons that are not a challenge aside from sanity of doing the same thing over and over again with enemy ai thats dull and unevolved simple to do with no effort just boring same old grinding.

I do admit raid bosses are challenging but they now have infinite HP which makes me question why do I even fight it if it only dies when the final phase (perkias for example) of the raid boss is released and even then its not that you had any part of it its like the game itself writes it off as it dying on its own in its own story making the whole ordeal feel pointless and to top it off the queue system is still broken as all hell you spend more time waiting half the day than actually playing in a party unless you form the party yourself but even then there is still waiting because we live in a region with 3 (excluding hawaii and alaska) where you still have to wait for your friends to login.

KOG hold a conference and rethink what Elsword is now I know you won't remove pay2win and I know end game is supposed to take time but at least if it's gonna take time redesign it so its not the same damn thing every god damn day also rethink what made this game a success in 2012 people didn't just play this game just for the anime and because of the flashy editions back when velder and eve was new the gameplay was fun and amazing bosses felt more fun to fight and there was rather intelligent dungeon design as well and the character roster style was perfect.

Now do not get me wrong Chung and Ara are great they hold unique styles however hamel was really easy to the point it was boring as all hell and then sanders the difficulty was entirely artificial while I do admit the tiem these 2 characters came out the 2 characters were amazing but the dungeons were just stale except for 1 that was the Halls of Water.

A game packed full of content, fun, and fighting (pvp and pve). There's not a character I've played who isn't a blast to pick up, and each character has 3 classes with entire skill trees. A bit of a grind to level up, and while the game isn't pay-to-win some of the features are much better after you've spent money. My advice: spend $40 on a character and start having the time of your life. Played for a year off and on, found it on Steam, still getting enjoyment out of it.
