I fun and difficult medieval fighting game where the objective of the game is kinda unknown. If you dont have a controller beware that there was a tad bit of imput delay for mouse and keyboard. The game is all about reactions so that was a pain, but not enough to put me off this great game.

Unique and challenging gameplay.

The lore, while being rich and thoughtful is not spoon fed to you. Can be a positive or negative.

A decent amount of depth into character customization.

Definitely (arguably) the easiest of the Souls series, Dark Souls 2 is pretty solid in gameplay and has an interesting atmosphere.

Only get this version if you want to use mods, some of which greatly improve the lighting to make it look as good as the E3 Demo as well as make the torch item actually useful. Otherwise, stick to the Scholar of the First Sin version.

I did a complete 180 on how I feel about this game. At the beginning, I was so disappointed. The developpers wanted to make this game harder than its predecessor and they did it by making the game unfair. They added more traps, more ambushes, just a bunch of more unfair stuff. They added a lot of unecessary bosses, lowered the time of invincibilty your dodges have and made the hitboxes much bigger. They even slowed down the time it takes to drink estus which heal you. The first Dark Souls was challenging, but it was always fair. BUT even with all of this, once you get used to it, it still feels like a Dark Souls game. The feeling of accomplishement after beating your obstacle is still there more then ever before. The lore, the characters, the areas, the enemies, the bosses, they make me forget about the bad things of this game. Sure, this game has a lot, and I mean A LOT of flaws, but at its core, it's still a Dark Souls game and it deserves to be called a Dark Souls game.

*I'm still pisssed that the warrior class has a broken straight sword as a starting weapon.*

So, Dark Souls 2. This game is probably one of the best games made. It mixes the live action combat with RPG and Story telling into one. The story unlike other games isn't handed to you. Some would see this as a weakness but it's a strength here. You are given a base of what is going on in the world and what your reason ( in general terms ) is for being. Outside that you must read and listen to figure out the rest. But that being said what you think could just be your interpretation. Since the story isn't explained in a right or wrong manner this is where you get to make the world your own. But you could always take things at face value as well.

Maybe story isn't your thing but the action packed game play. Well I can tell you there is plenty of that. 370+ hours of game play myself and I'm still finding fights engaging. There are places I feel comfortable with but that's where the game gets you. Let your guard down and you'll die to the most unexpected things. Its not stressful game play ( lol well sometimes ) but its one of those don't get cocky moments where you died to something early and it reminds you " Oh yes, This is dark souls " and that moment is always fun.

The game play can be described in 2 ways, Rewarding and frustrating. As new players will come to learn. There are 2 major issues with souls games that turn a lot of new players away from continuing playing after their first 30 mins to 1 hour introduction to the game. I will explain these.

1st. Control issues. ( Keyboard / Mouse - Controller (( Xbox & PS)) )

Lets talk about Dark Soul I. We can all agree the only way to play that was with a controller of your choosing. The keyboard mouse wasn't even an option for the PC port.

Now For Dark Souls II. Luckily we got a really good PC version and its rebinding options for the keyboard and mouse and pretty decent and is playable with some work. If you wish to play with Keyboard and Mouse I recommend focusing on these main core mechanics and then tweak as needed once you become more skilled and understand the game more. These are the core mechanics , ( Rolling, Blocking, Attacking, Locking on, Jumping, Camera Control, and Movement. ) If you can practice on these core's you'll have a much better time rebinding the extra stuff later.

A Controller of your choosing is personally my choice. I find it much less bothersome and easier to learn Tho I do know those that just dislike controllers. Like I'm trying to say is don't be turned off by the games controls in the 1st hour. The learning curve is hard and that's because this game isn't handed to you to beat. Some work is needed.

2nd. No Guidance , Dying.

I've been that guy that's like ( WTF is this game! , Where do I go! , How'd that kill me! ). Trust me lol I feel your pain. But lets look at it like this would the game be the same game without these complaints .. No. So Lets look at ways to get pasted your 1st impression of a impossible game or stupid game with nothing to offer :).

Lets talk No Guidance. Well so the story is hidden unless you do the in depth reading of item descriptions and serious listening to the lovely voiced over dialog in game. But that allows you to make the world your own. I've seen people do Dark Soul D&D runs with limits and Guidelines while playing co-op online lol. So the fact they give you no guidance or direction leaves you up to do what you want at any point. I personally see this a huge sell point of the heart of the game.

Lets talk, Dying. It's Dark Souls. Its going to happen a lot even if you're insanely good at the game you die. I've been that guy breaking controllers, almost broke my foot once xD. So a bit of wisdom. Patients and Breath. Practice make perfect expect to die and you'll figure dying isn't the end of the game just part of it. That being said, Even with practice you'll die to the stupidest things or random wtf moments lol so be prepared.

I could spend more time talking about this and that the game is really easy to endlessly talk about for me. But really if you're looking for a solid challenge that has tons of replayability. That you can bring your friends into Buy this game.

Hope to you see Invading my world soon! :D
