“For Dark Souls II, we don’t even expect any additional downloadable content because we want to deliver a full game, the full experience, to fans who purchase the package from day one,”

“We did do additional content for Dark Souls, but generally downloadable content for Dark Souls II is not really being considered. Buy the package and you’ll get the full experience, and you’ll have as much fun as anybody else.”

Quoted from IGN and Gamespot interviews. What we got instead was three DLC releases, a season pass, and now an "enhanced edition" which provides the DLC along with fixes and graphical improvements that most would have patched in for free.

WARNING: A new "HD version" of this game has been announced. It will be an entirely separate game and include all DLC content. Most importantly, this "old" version (released May, 2014) WILL NOT update to the new version, which will be sold separately.

Exclusive to the new version are re-mastered encounters, additional multiplayer slots, new invasion NPC with new items, improved enemy AI, and graphical updates not available in this "old" version of the game. Furthermore, the two versions of the game will not be compatible with each-other for online play, nor will saves be transferable between games.

A recent patch to prepare for the new re-release added changes to soul memory, a couple new items, and other tweaks to the "old" version of the game. The patch does not and will not contain the exclusive enhancements of the new version. If you want the exclusive content listed above, you will need to purchase the new version of the game.

This is a great game. DS1 is probably my favorite game. But I can't condone the business practice behind it, that is currently forcing you to buy the same game again through new minor but desirable exclusive content, because if you don't, you won't get the complete experience. You don't even need to be a diehard fan to feel like you're missing out.

So yeah. No more money from me. That means I'll be missing out, and that my online experience in the "old" DS2 version will be hampered, and I'll never get to play Bloodborne, or the new Zelda, or the new Sonic, or The Last of Us, but those behind this "exclusive" ♥♥♥♥ will be that less richer - maybe even "missing out in the complete experience"...
