I invaded someguy who happened to be out of health pots. I poked him down till he was on nearly no health then spammed "Very good" "Very good" "Very Good" while he begged for mercy. He finally broke and jumped off a cliff to end the torment.

Great Game 12/10.

Much easier compared to DS1, but with a larger community and easier to play and connect with others, it's the better game perfomance wise than DS1. As I said it's easier so more people can get into it, and it's worth the price and your get your moneys worth plus a lot more, same with the DLC.

Two and a half years later, the sequel of Dark Souls got released. You are continuing your journey with a desire to break the curse. You came to Drangleic to break the undead curse, but you will end up following a path laid out for you by the Herald

The game has great lore, although it is not given to you. Vendrick seems to have been a chosen undead (Possibly YOU from Dark Souls ?) Chancellor Wellager says : "He vanquished the four Great Ones, and built this kingdom upon their souls." Very interesting indeed.

It shares the same mechanics with some new ones. When it comes to challenge it is basically the same. NG+ will give you some new enemies and red phantoms, upgraded rings and better drop rate on certain items. The difficulty will increase until you reach NG+7 like the previous game. Soul Memory [Total souls collected] is a new thing and prevents low level griefers. The game will now match you up with people in your SM range. NG players will not be able to play with NG+ players no matter what their SM is. A rather good invention although I miss invading new people with high end weapons and gear...

Multiplayer aspect of the game is getting better along with the patches. Unbalanced weapons, armor, rings and spells have been mostly fixed. Only major problem must be the amount of hackers and lag. There will be some lag depending on peoples internet connection. But there is of course something wrong when both players has decent internet speed and gets alot of lag. But overall a solid game and a must buy for RPG fans.

8/10

+ Lore
+ Graphics
+ Gameplay
+ Area and Enemy design

- Lag
- AI
- PC controls [Highly recommended to get a Xbox 360 controller]

8/10 - explanation below.
A quick review of Dark Souls II.

As a Souls games fanboy (and From Software), I need to express my views on this game even after so time has passed since its release - mostly because of the last (?) upcoming DLC - Crown of the Ivory King.

Dark Souls II has everything a Souls game had to this date, a confusing story, hard difficulty, angering moments etc. These are the basics of a Souls game, after all. But like any other game, DS2 has some flaws, some, that in this game, ended up being fatal.

Bandai NAMCO advertisement on the game is one of these flaws. The trailers were so dark, so obscure, the lightning engine was SO dark and the use of torches seemed too damn cool. You can imagine the disappointment of millions when the game came out and there was no need for torches since they made the game totally bright from day to night. This fact alone killed my expectations to the game. And the slaughter continued when the game continuously threw at me more and more different skins of the same kind of NPC and a lot of bosses with almost no context, more like a gaping hole. At the end of the game, I had a lot of questions and no answers to be found. The DLCs are giving some answers, but at all, this game has no real difficult and yes an impression of difficult: throw ten npcs at you or a boss with a lot of NPCs around and that's their way of thinking this game is difficult. For who played Demon's Souls, Dark Souls, Dark Souls: Artorias of the Abyss and even (but necessarily) King's Field, this was no real challenge at all and just a lot of frustrating places. But as a real fanboy, I achieved to like the game. Even with his flaws, it has some great pros.

This game is a really good game to play, if you ignore it as a non direct sequel to Dark Souls. It's more like that weird cousin of your family, that you don't really have anything huge against but are not very happy to play with, even if you play. You can still learn a lot and have a lot of fun, so it is a must pick.

You always hear people jokingly say that Dark Souls II was made by the "B-Team", while "A-Team" worked on Bloodborne, and wether or not that's true doesn't really matter, because it sure feels like it is. Compared to the first game, the lore is bland, the enemy and boss designs repetitive and uninspired, the difficulty is legitimately artificial, combat feels floaty and the world makes no sense.
Story elements related to the first game feel more like references than a continuation some sort of overarching plot, which is what you'd expect from a sequel. Ignore the blatant connections like specific items or covenants, and the world of Drangleic would be as related to Lordran as Boletaria is.
While in the first game difficulty was a matter of endurance, of getting through relatively long areas from bonfire to bonfire without dying (Absolutely all of which, by the way, you could run through without fighting a single mob along the way if you knew what you were doing); the second game just resorts to throwing more enemies at you for often unavoidable fights that just end up being a matter of stalling until you can backstab or poke something, and being rewarded with a bonfire soon afterwards. The thing about being able to run past encounters in the first game played along with the "difficulty through endurance" concept, and raised the skill ceilling so that more experienced players could get through the game in just a couple hours, knowing where to go and what to do; while Dark Souls II often blocks you and forces you to either fight everything along the way, or eventually get lynched at a choke point. The starting area of the Crown of the Ivory King DLC is the best example of this I can think of.
Lastly, and to me most importantly, the game feels completely voided of style. While Lordran looked and felt cold and humid, only the remnant of a once great land long past its peak like some sort of medieval post-apocalipse, with the land covered by moss and inhabited by either hollows or monsters, exception of which were the few characters, each with their own storyline, each who depending on your actions all either turned on you or suffered great loss; Drangleic is just a pastel colored kingdom with really nothing remarcable about it. Nothing bad happens to any of the characters, the "Brotherhood of Blood" rarely comes to get you, the motivations for your actions all feel gratuitous and sometimes incoherent, and through the many playthroughs I've done, I never really found anything new, any little details that made the world more interesting or even felt the motivation to go through it one more time like the first game so amazingly did.

However, even through all of that, the game is still fun.
PvP is about as unbalanced as it was in the first game, and some of the mechanics lower the skill ceilling a bit, but it's still very rewarding to completely wreck a ♥♥♥♥♥.
Even though the bosses are all iterations of things we saw in Dark Souls, the adrenaline rush you get from actually beating them is still there.
And although the world feels dead for entirely different reasons and the lore has little depth, it's still way more interesting than most other games'.

The game is pretty good, but it is far, far from great, and even further from what the first one was.
Just prepare to die a lot, not from your estus running out, but because there was actually an ogre behind that door.
