[Development] Crew Reinforcements

It takes weeks to build a ground vehicle. It takes years to train a professional. Vehicle crews and maintenance teams are the most valuable resource in any player’s slots.

But the realities of the game dictate their own rules. Every day on the War Thunder battlefields, far more vehicles are destroyed than ever met their end in real war, and a vehicle that is very survivable in real life may fail to show its virtues so clearly when it comes under a hail of fire. This mostly concerns heated battles on the ground.

We strive to recreate historical reality wherever this doesn’t oppose simple logic and exciting gameplay, and the survivability of ground vehicles in battle is an important factor that directly influences how much fun people have in battles. But how do we adapt our vehicles for far more deadly battles than those that took place in real life, without touching the tanks’ carefully recreated characteristics? The answer is simple: crews! It is people that control tanks, and the tank is considered lost only after the majority of its crew are killed. We’ve been looking into various options that would allow you to enjoy the battle for longer without losing the sense of a true conflict.

These options included medkits, which would allow you to return a member of your crew to life, but many of you considered this mechanic not entirely suitable for the realities of Simulator, Realistic and even Arcade battles in War Thunder. There was a literal downpour of suggestions for an alternative.
We’ve considered the most logical of your suggestions in developing this latest mechanism, and now we present a new mechanic – crew drafting.

Do things look bad? The tanker is already on the way!

In a large upcoming update, tankers in all modes will become acquainted with a new mechanic with which a tank still capable of contributing to the fight mechanically can prepare for the next skirmish with the enemy by replacing a knocked-out crew member with a reserve soldier.

How does this mechanic work?
Just as you requested, we’ve changed not only the crew member revival mechanism, but also introduced variety to how the mechanic works in different modes.

In Arcade mode, you can request a draft at any point on the map, and if there is only one tanker left in the tank, the draft is requested automatically and all you have to do is hope that the soldier arrives in time. It’s all quite simple, the only thing you have to consider is that the vehicle cannot move between your request for a crew member and the time the crew member arrives.

It’s a little more complicated in Realistic and Simulated modes. Here, you can only draft a tanker at a safe capture point that belongs to your team, and you can only draft a crew member manually. This is in contrast to Arcade mode, only a battle-capable vehicle with a minimum of two living crew members can draft a new crew member. It will also be impossible to move while the replacement is being fulfilled.
Crew drafting will become available after you research the ground vehicle modification of the same name. Each individual replacement tanker draft costs Silver Lions.

The tanker is ready to move whenever you request it.

We thank all players who helped by offering suggestions for the development of this new mechanic, and we hope that ground battles in all modes will become more fun because of it. Good luck!

[Development] Ki-100

We are pleased to present another new addition to War Thunder in the upcoming major update –
the Japanese Ki-100, the most recent development of the Ki-61 line of military fighters.

The story of the Japanese military Ki-100 fighter is remarkable. As a result of the Allied bombing of Japanese armament production lines, an engine production factory in Akashi was destroyed. This factory produced Ha-140 engines for Ki-61 fighters. This left the Kawanishi Aircraft Company with 275 Ki-61 airframes, all bereft of engines. In the extremely harsh wartime conditions, such resource could not go unused, so the airframes were given a new ‘heart’ – the Mitsubishi Ha-112-II radial engine. The first aircraft, dubbed the Ki-100, took to the skies in February 1945, just two months after the new engine was first installed in the Ki-61 airframe.

For more info, pictures, and video of this aircraft, be sure to read the full article in the Official War Thunder Forums!

About This Game

War Thunder is a free-to-play, cross-platform MMO combat game for Windows, Linux, Mac and PlayStation®4 dedicated to military vehicles used in and around World War II and the Korean War. In War Thunder, you can take part in major battles on land, in the air, and at sea, fighting with real players from all over the world in a continuously developing environment.

War Thunder already offers a highly detailed experience in military aviation and ground forces combat, giving players access to a Guinness World Record breaking number of aircraft, as well as an abundance of tanks and other combat vehicles - and the number is constantly rising.

You can feel the unmatched intensity of aerial dogfights in a fighter, the decisive power of commanding a heavy strategic bomber or the heat of battle in a ground attacker, delivering precision strikes against your enemies. Alternatively, you can join the spearhead of armoured vehicles, fighting for dominance over the battlefield on the ground: Man a heavy tank with impressive armour and firepower, use the maneuverability of a medium or light tank to your advantage, or support your team by screening the skies with your anti aircraft vehicle - the choice is yours!

In the future, the game will also allow players to ‘set sail’ by commanding a variety of warships in the fight over the control of the world’s oceans, giving the game a truly epic scale.

Master your vehicles through both upgrades and personal experience in an environment that is constantly expanding and rewarding the personal skill of the player. Organise your efforts in one of the countless player squadrons and become an ace pilot or tanker - or both! Our thriving and welcoming community of millions of players is also actively participating in the game’s ongoing development, offering custom content through War Thunder Live, such as skins, missions and even vehicles.

War Thunder is frustrating. I long gave up on fighter combat, because I'm ♥♥♥♥ at air-to-air in anything and the balancing was stupid as all hell anyway, so I instead spend most of my playtime now in the mud. It sucks, because as it stands warthunder is the only non-simulator tank game that makes a tank feel like a tank (rather than the gliding-across-the-ground tanks you get in WoT and Armored Warfare), but the game is just SO so bad. The balance is terrible (How do you like facing Panzer IIIs in your ♥♥♥♥♥♥ cavalry tank that's not even up-armored enough to defeat .50s?), the grind is terrible (~500RP is a decent match, and it'll be costing you tens of thousands of RP to get most vehicles), the playerbase is terrible (have fun being the only ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ moving from beyond some useless camping positions!)

Just don't bother. The playercount has been steadily shrinking for a while now, too, meaning the wait times between battles grow longer and longer (and Gaijin continues to do dumber and dumber things to "fix" that), and the quality of players grows lower and lower.

This Game was good at the start, but they ♥♥♥♥ed it all up. The additions of ATGMs, the broken BR system, planes in every tank mode, and the lengthy amount of time to get a tank is just beyond redicuolus. I used to play it everyday but now, im not really having fun with it anymore. My tanks just get sent back to the hanger by flying missiles, bombs, rockets, and other crap. Now they have felt the need to implement the russian t62 into the game which is not cool given its production year and advancements in technology, while germany on the other hand gets the brumbar which would be a good tank but it gets put as a premium line instead of it being researchable.(both coming in the next update) Way to go Gaijin cant wait for you guys to put in air to ground missiles so ground forces can be even more unbarable as it already is.

Used to be so much fan, a birlliant game I sunk hour after hour into, on both PC and Playstation 4. The more you grind the more difficult it seems to be to unlock new vehicles. The 'Wagers' (challenges in which you unlock extra ingame currency) are borderline impossible more often than not.

People always bang on about Russian bias however, and let me tell you something, those people are speaking complete and utter..... sense. The Russian aircraft often take you down in a small burst whilst you watch your German aircraft pump 300 mg rounds plus 100 cannon rounds into a lower "battle ranked" aircraft.

The graphics still hold up well but the question on reviews is would I recommend the game. In it's current, seemingly pay to win state, no, not one bit.

Are you looking for a game that accurately portrays WWII warfare? Then look somewhere else because that is not this game. The balancing is terrible and not up to historical records. There are multiple instances of russian biases (they get double payload for standard shells, tu-4, etc.). It is a timesink. I cannot reccomend putting the time into getting RP for tiering up when the developers literally just copy paste vehicles across tiers. If you play free expect to grind across an eternity.

DO NOT PLAY.

War Thunder. War Thunder never changes.

On august 15th, 2013, someones great great grandfather, who served in the army, wondered when he'd get to go home to his wife and brand new PC which he had never seen to play a WW2 sim. He got his wish when Gaijin released War Thunder, by dropping a download into a non translated Russian page.

The gaming community awaited Armageddon, instead, something terrible happened. Gaijin began to make the game not as an accurate sim, but as a source of nearly limitless propaganda. Russians enjoyed luxuries once thought the realm of Soviet WW2 fan fiction. T-34's, LaGG-3s, Mig-17s outclassing whatever they faced. But then, in 2015, people awoke from the euphoria induced dream.

Years of imbalance lead to shortages of nearly every major resource. The entire community unraveled. Fun became a distant memory.

It is now the year 2016. The community stands on the brink of total annihilation, and i am afraid for myself, my bank account, for my time wasted grinding.

Because if my time in the game taught me one thing: it's that War Thunder, War Thunder never changes.

You'de have more fun slowly trying to kill yourself with a cold butterknife than play this game. Every patch the game gets worse and more broken. Realism was thrown out the window a long time ago. The only thing the devs care about is money and their ♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥♥.

"Yak-3p" + T-34-85 > F-86f-2 + M60
Until something happens that fixes the BR system, I would not reccomend playing this game unless you're russian.
Btw, Yak-3p doesn't exist, Tier 5 Tanks/American planes aren't worth it unless you're rich and you have $500 to burn, and never, EVER -censored-
