[Development] Squad functionality

Dear players,
we are constantly working on the improvement of in-game cooperation and teamwork, this time we are updating Squad functionality. The whole invitation system has been optimized, now invites work faster and do not rely on joining chat anymore. A chat room is created automatically after any invites have been accepted.

This also means that a squad leader may revoke unaccepted invites and then invite other players - a squad maximum size remains the same at 4 players. Besides this, in the near future we plan to add an option when a player may give the squad leadership to another squadmate using a pop-up menu and choosing “Make leader” option.

From now on a player that has gone offline does not automatically leave the squad, his status indicator will become grey for other squad members and if he manages to reconnect to the game he rejoins the squad automatically, however he will have to wait till his fellows finish the match and return to the hangar.

About This Game

War Thunder is a free-to-play, cross-platform MMO combat game for Windows, Linux, Mac and PlayStation®4 dedicated to military vehicles used in and around World War II and the Korean War. In War Thunder, you can take part in major battles on land, in the air, and at sea, fighting with real players from all over the world in a continuously developing environment.

War Thunder already offers a highly detailed experience in military aviation and ground forces combat, giving players access to a Guinness World Record breaking number of aircraft, as well as an abundance of tanks and other combat vehicles - and the number is constantly rising.

You can feel the unmatched intensity of aerial dogfights in a fighter, the decisive power of commanding a heavy strategic bomber or the heat of battle in a ground attacker, delivering precision strikes against your enemies. Alternatively, you can join the spearhead of armoured vehicles, fighting for dominance over the battlefield on the ground: Man a heavy tank with impressive armour and firepower, use the maneuverability of a medium or light tank to your advantage, or support your team by screening the skies with your anti aircraft vehicle - the choice is yours!

In the future, the game will also allow players to ‘set sail’ by commanding a variety of warships in the fight over the control of the world’s oceans, giving the game a truly epic scale.

Master your vehicles through both upgrades and personal experience in an environment that is constantly expanding and rewarding the personal skill of the player. Organise your efforts in one of the countless player squadrons and become an ace pilot or tanker - or both! Our thriving and welcoming community of millions of players is also actively participating in the game’s ongoing development, offering custom content through War Thunder Live, such as skins, missions and even vehicles.

War Thunder has something for everyone. Play cooperative games with your friends on Windows PC, Linux, Mac or PlayStation 4 against AI, or squad up for a PvP battle in a difficulty setting matching your play style, ranging from Arcade to Simulator using Mouse and Keyboard, Gamepad or Joystick.

This could be a great game for people who love ww2 simulators like me, but it isnt even the pay to win that gets me, it is the play Russia to win. It is impossible to get fair matches due to the bias towards Russia in balance. I highly reccomend NOT playing this biased pay to win game.

Why do i recommend War Thunder?

Because i have fun in it, regularly.

The game is massive, hundreds of vehicles and numerous maps playable with different game modes that provide intense, challenging and satisfying gameplay.

Now i hear you say "someone's having fun in WT? Must be a russian player"
I play justin beiber songs more than i play soviet tanks or planes so no im not Ivan Ivanavitch Ivanovsky

Russian Bias and Censorship))))))))
Now this phrase gets kicked around like me at birth, you ever laugh at someone for blaming their loss on lag? Well this is the same thing, usually it's just salt talking but can be true.

I won't deny its existence but for me its not as big as people make it out to be.
Was that Yak-3 OP? Or were you trying to turn fight in a FW 190?
Tu-4 is love, Tu-4 is life

One thing to note, I've had very limited interactions between the community and gaijin and so won't comment on censorship in the game by guyjiggle.

Tanks: Indeed
Planes: I'd say no

  • Entertaining, in-depth gameplay
  • Russian Bias isn’t game breaking for me

If you're interested try the gameplay and maybe get a starter pack to help with early progression

If you're on the fence avoid tanks and give planes a try then expand from there

Finally I’d recommend watching Mike Goes Boom on YT as he provides good gameplay tips and Constructive videos about the game.

Not played much lately, because this game is way more fun with friends and they stopped playing (As much) but this game is a strong PvP game.

It takes a slightly different approach when it comes to the arena and weapon choice with planes and tanks (soon ships too)

All I can say is, it's free and worth a try. (Even if you aren't into planes because I doubt half the players were before they had their first match)

Just don't feel like you have to pay anything, because you don't. It takes more time but it's not the worst f2p concept out there.

I have played this game since I was first introduced to it by jingles. (Jan, 5 2013) When i first started playing i was in love. It was the only thing I ever did all day. The thought of getting to jet drove me to play for 14 hours at a time. The game was great. Then the updates started to come... At first it was just harder to make money and xp. People hated it but I kind of liked it. Then the BR system came and balance left. Matchmaking had trouble getting fair matches but even that wasnt so bad. Then the russian bias got real. Im not one of those people that complain that I died to X russian plane/tank but after seeing russian tanks and planes survive things that would destroy any other tank it got annoying. (planes putting out fires, t-34s bouncing tiger 2 shots in the side, ext) But even this wasnt what made me quit this game. It's the company. They are absolutly terrible. Constantly censoring anyone with an opinion than dosent match theirs. They threaten to ruin RB if we dont let them attack youtubers that help them by finding cheaters? And even steam isn't safe. They constantly have people downvote any review that is negative. I can forgive russian bias. I can forgive the terrible BR system. I cannot forgive this company for the way they treat their community. To Anton Yudintsev, you made a game that was amazing. I loved it so much and always will. But what you have become as a company will destroy you in the end. Listen to the community, let them help you make the game better. If you do that, this game has a chance to rise back up into greatness.

Played the game for months, unlocked tier V planes for every nation and reached the mid-ranks with some tanks.
Then Gaijin sent me a message claiming I had used the Steam refund system to refund money on a 5000 Golden Eagles purchase MONTHS after they claim the refund had happened.
However, I have never used the Steam refund system before. I couldn't find any record of it on my bank account and had to spent €25.- in the Gaijin shop for War Thunder in order to get my account back after it got frozen.

After that I' am no longer interested in playing this game. Not after the Devs showed a poor ability in communcation and made accusations which I couldn't even defend rightfully.

Don't spent any money on this game, Gaijin might ask you for more after you do ;)

Gaijin HG:
CEO: No one wants to play this game anymore. Any Ideas?
1: Hwo about nerfing the germans?
2: make soviet tanks stronk with more stalinium
3: How about sticking to historically correct data?
CEO: 3, you are fired! *throws 3 out the window*

War Thunder is complicated to review.

The game itself can be good fun at times. I enjoy flying the F84, an American jet fighter, and flanking an enemy tank in the M18 Hellcat, and destroying them with one shot, is a satisfying experience. However, War Thunder can also be extremely frustrating. It's rather annoying to have your tank's track blown off by a teammate as you're leaving the spawn. It's downright infuriating when you flank a T34 and its gun rotates 90 degrees in under a second to blow you up, because the enemy player is using an aimbot. That's a story for further along, however.

Moving on to how the game itself plays. The controls are fully customizable, and you can fly with a joystick or mouse and keyboard. Aircraft controls can be as in-depth or simple as you wish them to be, controlling everything from prop pitch to fuel mixture. If that's not your style, you can just press W to throttle up and have the game take care of everything else for you. Tanks are much more simple to control than planes in game modes such as Simulator Battles, only requiring you to drive and aim. Each avaliable nation in the game has its own unique play style. The American planes tend to rely on speed and firepower, working well with "Boom and Zoom" tactics. The Japanese planes are very maneuverable, usually putting them on the top of the heap in dogfights. Tanks are the same way, the Germans relying on heavy armor and big guns, while the Russians are usually a tad more maneuverable for instance.

The mechanics of the game are good on their own. However, when the company behind this game enters the picture, the waters get murky. Things they control, such as the BR (Battle Rating) system, are not the most well designed or balanced at the time of writing. There is also a presence of bias for some nations at different tiers. This is most noticeable for the Russian vehicles in the game. Russian planes will commonly outperform their opponents despite all circumstances. The topic of "Russian Bias" is a very complicated one, and I don't wish to go too far down the rabbit hole with my review, but I assure you it is there.

Outside of the game itself, the company is very heavy handed with controlling the community. A very recent incident presented a poll, which to my understanding was taken down due to a large backlash from the community. This poll was created because of a video made by YouTuber PhlyDaily, who creates content related to War Thunder and other similar games. PhlyDaily made a video exposing a hacker within the game, and Gaijin claimed that this would cause more harm than good, hence the poll. This poll is a problem because it presented two choices: Ruin a preferred game mode, or abuse YouTube's copyright strike system to silence any YouTuber that covered hacking or any related issues in War Thunder. If that wasn't bad enough, they asked for the community's help in executing option two. What they proposed is technically illegal.

The company behind this game is constantly pulling shady moves and attempting to strongarm the community keeping them afloat. I haven't even mentioned their awful business model yet. It is for these reasons that I sadly can not recommend what could be a fun game. The only reason I continue to play War Thunder is because I've sunk money into it, a product that I wanted to see reach its full potential. However, I do not intend to spend another dime supporting this game, or Gaijin, and I suggest you stay far, far away until things improve, if they ever do.

I used to love this game but I have reached my limit. I have watched the company become gradually more and more opressive but managed to convince myself that it was just a phase. The change came when I discovered that in response to a video showing a major hack the CEO (yes, the person who runs the company) posted a poll asking us to choose between making the hack a permenant feature of the game or issuing copyright strikes agains ALL people who bring up such issues on youtube or other social media.

NO MORE. I will not tolerate such blatantly (and I tried really hard to find an alternative phrasing here) Stalinist methods.
Never again will I play this game. Never again will I knowingly give this company any money.
For the sake of all that is right and good, DO NOT play this game

I loved this game, i played it non-stop before i got it on steam. But only 35.7 hours into getting the steam version i quit.
Why? you may ask. Well for three very good reasons.

1. Russia FTW (or should i say WTF)
Yup it has to be said, the devs have an obvious russian bias.
Russian planes and tanks and 300% better than everything else at their BR.
(which BR itself is designed to give russian tanks an advantage.)
Also the devs are known to ignore their non russian players. And straight up banned me for telling him about the OP russian aircraft in a PRIVATE MESSAGE to a friend. 5 day ban.

2. The price of the steam packages.
50 dollars for two planes. wow....

The devs were talking about abusing the youtube copyright system to get videos trying to show cheaters taken down
and those channels shutdown. (ehm..phlydaily incident)
They are turning into those shady indie devs that try to make a reviewers, that give their game a bad rap, life miserable.

SO screw gajin. screw warthunder.
Im done promoting this game
If you are with me,
help me boycott this crappy company.
