That was about a dollar's worth of entertainment, which iirc is what I paid for it.

I'm pretty sure people who like puzzle games more than I do would enjoy this.

Cranky Cat is a puzzle game based around rotating a wheel (or "crank") and matching 3+ colours to make balloons pop.

The game itself works okay, but the concept, after 24 levels over 5 stages (120 odd levels) gets boring and trite. The worst part, however, is the soundtrack, which literally consists of 3-4 tracks which they play over... and over... and over... and over again. Incredibly annoying, I had to turn the volume to 0% just to ignore it.

It took me 5 hours to complete the Story mode entirely. I looked at the puzzles, they seemed pretty easy but they looked more entertaining than the Story mode.

This game would suit people who "like these sorts of games", people who enjoy Bejeweled, Peggled, Tetris etc, parents who don't play games often will possibly enjoy the simple puzzlesolving aspect, but may be driven genuinely insane by the "soundtrack".

"Meh." That's the impression Cranky Cat left me with. It is easy to get into, it is not complicated and a level does not take too long. It fits the description "Casual Game". But that's all. There is nothing special about this game. I wish there was.

It feels that the main focus in development were touch devices, the controls seem optimized for it; The gameplay just feels clunky with the mouse.

The music in the menu is somewhat amusing but the ingame music sounds like you enprisoned a drunken big band and told them to just make noises. It actually sounds like several tracks overlapping and gets really annoying, really fast. I would maybe recommend the game for a really simple casual experience, if the gameplay intruiges you because of the amount of levels that will supply you with a few hours of fun - but the ingame music is so bad and the controls feel clunky...

Cranky Cat is simple (if you know Puzzle Bobble/Bust-a-Move) - it's PB with the board rotating, rather than you aiming new bubbles. The big problem is that especially later on, a lot of the boards will feel identical, and if you're going for 3-stars, the RNG nature of each stage is going to become a pain because sometimes you get a good run, and sometimes it just won't give you that one bubble of the right color to clear a path to the last two.

There's a Puzzle mode but it's hardly worth mentioning, because it comes down to "find the opening spot, rotate board appropriately to make all the bouncing pieces clear things". In fact, a huge part of why I find Cranky Cat kind of unfun stems from either a) gimmick boards where you can't blow up the biggest mass, or else the entire board will shift off-kilter and go out of bounds until you blow up two layers of bubbles, or b) reused boards over and over. I've seen one show up at least three times.

It's not a classic game by any means, is all I'm saying. The formula has some kinks.

A Bust-A-Move clone that is actually quite entertaining if you like these kinds of games.

At release the game had serious issues with the controls, due to it being a phone game first, but the developer added alternative controls and a fix for color-blinds within 24 hours of it being mentioned on the forums.

Also, I will never ever play level 5-21 again. Ever!

Cranky Cat offers a new twist on the marble-shooting, bust-a-move genre, and it does it well.

Instead of firing spheres upward, they float in from the sides and slowly gravitate toward the center of the playing area. The player can (and has to) rotate the "board" to match the marbles. Three or more of the same color will remove them from the board, which then causes now loosened marbles to bounce off and gravitating back, which allows for quite spectacular and fireworks-like combinations.

There are numerous special marbles, such as the traditional bombs, and power-ups, like those that remove all marbles of a specific color. The game includes hundreds of levels in the story mode, and it also features a variety of endless/random modes, with the "lightning" mode perhaps being the most enjoyable one.

There are also Steam achievements and local highscores. The only feature I've been missing are Steam leaderboards, but this aside, this is a fairly enjoyable, fast-paced (at least deeper in the story mode and in Lightning) and smoothly running casual game (which can be quite hardcore). The developers have been very responsive to feature requests.

Worth checking out, especially at the very inexpensive super-budget price.

I personally really like puzzle games. Including ones like Bejweled, Jewel Quest, Zuma, BubblePop, ect... If you like Puzzle games like those, you'll probably like this one too. There isn't really a story, the animations are simple but cute, and the music is fitting to that of a puzzle game. This isn't a game of epic proportion. It's a basic, fun to play, time-eater, with bright colors and a fun theme.
If you still aren't sure about this game, or any game, the best advice is to look on youtube for some gameplay videos. Check to see if it's something you'd enjoy if the game doesn't have a demo =D

Grade: 50/100
Difficulty: Easy.
Pros: It is a game you can play to waste time if you're bored.
Cons: The music is irritating, along with the display. The gameplay itself is a no-brainer.
Replayable: No. I would not have gotten this for myself in the first place -- it was gifted to me as a joke. And that's exactly what this game is.
