[2015/6/11] Update v1.5000 - SG2: Origins FREE DLC!

Greetings captains!

ORIGINS ON STEAM

Here's a little something from us here at LGM :). We've been working hard to get this DLC out. It's free as stated before and as promised in Early Access. It's a THANK YOU from us to You, the community, for your support and dedication, and for putting up with us all this time. We couldn't have wished for more.

I won't bore you too much. Below is the list of fixes we've done for the vanilla game and Secrets of Aethera which you might also find useful ;).

IMPORTANT: Since there were some major changes in the game world, please note that any mod should be made specifically for Origins so it would work properly (depends on what the mod changes of course).

If you encounter any problems, let us know :).

You know how this last bit goes already:
Safe travels, Captains! :)

CHANGE LIST

  • FIXED: An issue where Iolian NPCs would equip Unique codename weapons
  • FIXED: An issue where enemies would launch wings with zero fighters
  • FIXED: A problem preventing Cloak stability parameter to work as expected
  • FIXED: A bug concerning Targeting mode and cutscenes/dialogue segments where the player doesn't have the control of his/her ship
  • FIXED: A database error in the localized versions that could cause the game to crash
  • FIXED: An error in At an empire's end mission with ships exploding in advance
  • FIXED: Numerous text errors
    • Thanks for this goes to Unbroken as he's done the additional proofreading.
  • FIXED: A typo in the DerelictOnDestroy.sal script preventing it from reaching its full potential.
  • FIXED: An error that could in some cases cause the game to crash when storing a ship into the garage
  • FIXED: Old friends mission - A bug where boarding a structure you're supposed to destroy would break the mission
  • UPDATED: Gladius group bounty hunters now T-jump in closer to the player. When you see their message on screen, you'll spot them on the radar as well.
  • UPDATED: Sorting ships by ship class when generating Freelance missions. You should no longer be fighting against level 1 freightliners. This can still happen, but not as frequently.
  • UPDATED: Mod Manager to reflect the addition of the Origins DLC
  • ADDED: Logitech Extreme 3D Pro throttle(slider) support. If you're using keyboard/mouse control scheme, you can now manually bind the slider to accelerate/decelerate
  • ADDED: Tooltips for context menu in Controller mode
  • ADDED: Scripterion2 to provide more functionality and ease-of-use. In time this will replace the original Scripterion altogether.

[2015/5/13] Update v1.4000 - La Résistance française!

Greetings captains,

It's been awhile since our last update, but we have been working. Unfortunately, not everything is ready just yet. Our biggest announcement is the upcoming free DLC featuring a complete storyline, even longer than the original campaign. As we promised, we've been recreating the storyline from Starpoint Gemini 1 and it should become available in June! We'll make sure to announce the release as soon as we're ready!

But, let's return to the business at hand. What's this update about? Several things:

  • Preparations for the upcoming free DLC
  • Standard assortment of minor fixes
  • And last, but nowhere near least: French localization. ALL credit goes to the esteemed gentleman by the name of Sébastien Gigot, a member of this amazing community, who took it upon himself to translate the entire game to French.
Mr. Gigot, we owe you a debt of gratitude we can hardly repay. THANK YOU!

As always, if you encounter problems, let us know and we'll do our best to answer and help as fast as possible.

And finally we come to the already standard change list:

CHANGE LIST
  • ADDED: Follow mission button, which comes in handy when juggling several missions at once
  • FIXED: Active Only button on the logs panel, now properly toggles between active/non-active missions
  • ADDED: New mission markers (on the HUD and the Starchart) for acquired/followed missions
  • ADDED: Campaign missions now have mission-appropriate images
  • FIXED: Several errors in the Cat and Mouse campaign missions (Shinova problem)
  • FIXED: Several minor errors in Second Front Baeldor side mission
  • ADDED: Throttle/Slider implemeted for Thrustmaster Flight Hotas X, Logitech Extreme 3D Pro, Cybord F.L.Y. 5 flight stick. ship speed should now properly change according to the position of the joystick's throttle/slider.
  • FIXED: Some issues with resetting to default controls. Full Gamepad control (for Xbox controllers) should now properly load the correct controls at game start-up and the "Reset" button at Options->Controls should now reset the controls for the appropriate controller.

IMPORTANT FOR VISTA USERS

We do NOT officially support Vista, as is shown in the minimum requirements section (Win7 is minimum), but we do our best to keep it compatible nonetheless. PLEASE keep this in mind when considering a purchase. The current version does run on Vista though, but there is a special procedure for it (you need to opt into a special product branch) which is described in detail on the game discussion board.

About This Game

Captain your own space ship and roam the galaxy in 3D in this tactical space simulator with tons of RPG depth ! Space has never looked so inviting - but images can betray...

It has been two years since the end of the second Gemini war, the situation in the wartorn system is further from resolution than ever.
The collection of freedom fighters named Gemini League is now reduced to a small group, with no power or influence, after losing their leaders. The Empire meanwhile, has used the re-opened Starpoint to occupy the once renegade Gemini sector - and beyond.

A multitude of Imperial warship fleets and mammoth motherships have crushed every trace of opposition. The situation was looking bleak, when they suddenly halted their armada and re-shifted their focus on fortifying Starpoint with staggering numbers. Rumours soon spread that they were afraid of something coming after them through the T-gate, from what was supposed to be the core of the Empire. What are they running from that makes even the mighty Empire tremble?

Starpoint Gemini 2 will take players on a breath taking journey, with dark secrets and unimaginable twists that will finally unveil the incredible truth...

Key features:

  • Complex, but easy-to-use RPG system, now coupled with dynamic real-time 3D combat.

Starpoint Gemini 2 is a continuation of a space simulator series developed by Little Green Men Games and published by Iceberg Interactive. Compared with the first part of the game this is much more beautiful both visually and technically. Better is the graphics and effects and here is a fully 3D space battles!

I had never been a fan of space simulators, and this is my first experience in games of this genre. I can easily say - the game is just wonderful! It has everything - a completely gigantic open world, an interesting role-playing system, the excitement of the study the vast expanses of space, stunning visual components, and the music ... it perfectly complements the atmosphere of the game.

The game has a story, I would not say that it is unreally interesting, but it is good. It will help you to learn the story of the protagonist, a deeper plunge into the world to know who fills it and so on. In the story, we are investigating the death of the father of main hero, of course it's not a simple murder, his death is connected with the dispute between the Empire and the free states and appearing of some powerful third force. All in all story mode is interesting and fascinating, but sometimes can be boring.

Endless corners of space in the Starpoint Gemini 2 are filled with representatives of different factions, from different scientific organizations and associations of traders to space pirates, who with great pleasure help you get rid of your goods. The game is a brilliant representative of the sandbox genre, you really are free in your actions, even the story campaign does not impose itself, in the main menu of the game, you can choose one of two modes: campaign and free mode. The huge open world is very beautiful and at the same time is dangerous. Every minute of game you see unprecedented beauty landscapes, asteroid fields, planets, space stations, nebulas, and the rest of the mysterious charm of the vast expanses of space. The main thing is to remain vigilant, in space no one can hear your scream.

Here you can become anyone, brave space ranger fighting pirates, the merchant who travels between the planets, space miner who breaks down the asteroids and sells materials obtained or you can become a mercenary who makes various contracts. For example, orders for the capture or killing of criminals, assisting in the investigation of cosmic anomalies or repairing broken equipment at the space stations. It is not hard to understand the game economy. To make money not less interesting than to spend them. Many different types of ships, weapons, equipment and improvements for them are waiting for you, as long as you have the money to pay for all this. The interface is practical and easy to use, only necessary information displayed. You can fly using the mouse or keyboard, choice is yours.

Bad points in the game are for example the inability to create your own fleet or to build your own space station and you can get only money and experience for the tasks, but not the items. If you play for a long time, you can get bored but, in general, it is safe to say that the game is worth to spend a few evenings with it. If you ever wanted to start your experience with the genre of space simulators, the Starpoint Gemini 2 is your choice.

Pros:
Gigantic open space world to explore
Visually the game is very beautiful
Many different types of weapons and equipment improvements
It is not difficult to master
A large number ways to make money
Many different objects: asteroid fields, wormhole, nebula, faults
Steam Workshop
NVIDIA PhysX technology

Cons:
Sometimes monotonous and boring
There is no way to build your fleet, or space base

Total: 8.5 / 10
*I got the key from developer.

This game has come a long way since its beginning and it's still going strong. For me personally it went to overwhelmingly frustrating to awesomely enjoyable. The devs are super responsive and really care about the community. Keep in mind this is a tactical combat sim with trading aspects. There is a living economy, but personally I never paid any attention to it.

Destroy enemy ships, capture enemy ships, loot enemy ships, grapple enemy ships, hack enemy ships. Do whatever it takes to defeat the enemy. Expansive map with plenty of variety to keep you exploring. Ships, officers, mercenaries, trading opportunities, weapons, weapon enhancements, system enhancements, equipment, etc.

This game is an awesome space game in terms of what its selling point is: a tactical combat RPG space sim.

I like this game, I really do but this desperatly needs an Ai to assign hired crew to captured ships to mine, patrol follow you etc. Thats the only thing really affecting a nice game. A few bugs also hang in the game that prevents more than one boarding party, hanging battles etc. Needs a bit more work to make it shine.

for those players are expecting this some kinda X3 replacement, i would recommend you not to buy it, I think reviews are base on expectation, I made some mistake of expecting this game just like X3.

With all the recent updates, this game is finally playable. I think their biggest issue was releasing this so half finished originally.
If you enjoyed old school games like privateer, you'll find some neat similarities, mixed with freelancer style controls. Its got a lot of good structural things going for it, but still feels light on content, which is understandable given that its a small dev team working on it. Never the less those guys managed to put together a fun space sim that doesnt take itself too seriously. If you are looking for a hardcore space sim, this isnt it, but if you are looking to fly around blowing things up and occasionally have an interesting battle, then you are in the right place.
I continue coming back to this game to see new updates, and if the dev guys continue to produce content, I think this will flesh out quite nicely, so that the universe doesnt feel so barren with the same 3 mission types everywhere.
