About This Game

Captain your own space ship and roam the galaxy in 3D in this tactical space simulator with tons of RPG depth ! Space has never looked so inviting - but images can betray...

It has been two years since the end of the second Gemini war, the situation in the wartorn system is further from resolution than ever.
The collection of freedom fighters named Gemini League is now reduced to a small group, with no power or influence, after losing their leaders. The Empire meanwhile, has used the re-opened Starpoint to occupy the once renegade Gemini sector - and beyond.

A multitude of Imperial warship fleets and mammoth motherships have crushed every trace of opposition. The situation was looking bleak, when they suddenly halted their armada and re-shifted their focus on fortifying Starpoint with staggering numbers. Rumours soon spread that they were afraid of something coming after them through the T-gate, from what was supposed to be the core of the Empire. What are they running from that makes even the mighty Empire tremble?

Starpoint Gemini 2 will take players on a breath taking journey, with dark secrets and unimaginable twists that will finally unveil the incredible truth...

Key features:

  • Complex, but easy-to-use RPG system, now coupled with dynamic real-time 3D combat.
  • Explore the dynamic game world as a whole, rather than through individual maps.
  • Use T-Gates, wormholes and riftways to travel faster around the Gemini system .
  • Fifty diverse factions ranging from states and companies to outlaws, locked in a powerstruggle, with over 100 commodities to trade or plunder.
  • Special revocable licenses acquired from factions offer various bonuses and unlock new options.
  • Hire mercenary captains to follow you on your travels and share your fate, and employ officers to fill key positions on your ship (engineering, navigation, tactical).
  • Random missions get generated depending on the player’s actions and allegiances.
  • Over 70 unique ships, fully upgradeable with various ship systems, with a.o. visible turrets, and a large arsenal of destructive weapons to blast enemies to pieces.
  • Direct ship controls create complete immersion.
  • Advanced physics provided by NVIDIA PhysX technology

Really wanted to like this game but it is very poorly designed. Mission levels not coordinated to your level but rather to some arbitrary zone level so a Level 1 mission in one zone is not the same as Level 1 in another. Game aide is beyond poor. Goes to window mode all the time. Spend 90% of your time flying between points. Wish I hadnt gone two hrs so I could refund. Many better options in this space, try Rebel Galaxy. This may be deeper, but its boring as all end all. Someone remake Privateer pls. And forget about Star Citizen, too damn ambitious.

If you are going to play this game, don't bother opening it until you see a video that teaches you how to board ships. This game's economy is useless/broken without this feature, and it isn't taught ingame. First time I played I got bored to death in two hours and left it. Months later, I saw a gameplay, found out how to board ships, and tadaaa, new game!

It's not going to be the best game of your life, but you can spend a few hours having fun.

And for those that say that it's like a solo EVE, it has absolutely nothing to do, EVE is much better, but it's a great PvP gank feast built exclusively for gankers.

I went into this game as a buffer between waiting on a few other games im looking forward to. Keeping that in mind I do love all scifi/space games in general. The beginning was difficult i was having a hard time learning the controls and ended up giving up within the first two hours. I gave it another try and got the basics down and now am 36 hours into the game. I found myself loving it and enjoying the mystery of the story. From what i expect from a 30 usd game it surpasses in all categories. Yeah tutorials are not great, the voice overs are off sometimes and not perfect, finding the help section or explainations in the game about buying selling or how to bounty hunt and null and void. But with all that it is a 30 buck game reg price and i bought it for under 10 bucks. I rather enjoy figuring out how to figure out all the aspects of making money in game.

I say 2 thumbs up for what it is and i enjoy it even though i dislike 3rd person or control the ship games where im not in a first person view. 36 hours into it im not even in the dlc yet and havent even explored all the space available in the game aswell. I say its a win win!!!!

Don't waste your money, I got it in the sale at £5.49 for the gold package, it's not even worth 49p, I played it for 6+ hours hoping it would get better, it didn't.
If you're looking for a space trading, fighting game, try Darkstar One, it's older, but has better playability, a better story line (which is better acted/voiced) and better graphics.

If I could get a refund, I would.

I really want to like this game, but I find the help really not that helpful. There are no actual tutorials, just a popup when you dont need it expecting you to memorize 3 dozen commands quickly. And then it throws you into the game with no hints on how to scan or do anything. I am very disapointed. I wish the game would teach me how to play without confusing me.

Once upon a time I played a 2D game called "Escape Velocity", a game about being a space guy with a ship, going around the galaxy doing this for money and getting involved in various shenanigens. It was very open, and it instantly made you feel like you weren't just an actor in a story, buta person in a universe. Maybe you were some poor shlub with a cheap ship just taking whatever work you could get to make a buck, often risking your neck in the process or maybe eventually you were the coolguy captain with a beastly ship deciding the fate of whatever chunk of space you ended up in. Either way you would be involved in cool space battle, or running in a panic from a situation you couldn't handle, or spending time carefully picking upgrades for your ship, or even buying a whole new ship ( or dreaming about buying a giant really expensive ship ).

Starpoint Gemini 2 is the 3D version of that experience.

Gods, Starpoint Gemini 2 Where have you been. If you put a 4 x space mmo, remove the shoddy ai and shoddy players. And add ai that thinks, grows, and attacks! Plus there is good ship quality and animations! It can be slow at times, but this game is almost relaxing in pace. There is a lot to do, and a lot of fun. Highly Recommended

Review - Starpoint Gemini 2

===

Rating: 7.0 / 10 - To boldly grind as much as nobody grinded before

===

The Good

- Good variety of pilotable vessels for various play styles: mining freighters, battleships, fighter carriers, it's all there

- RPG elements and alignments system enable the player to take the path they wish in both terms of abilities, perks and behaivior

- Fairly good, but not excellent mind you, number of different sectors to explore

- Main quest, a load of secondary missions, contracts, bounties, random encounters, global events... really, there is a lot of stuff to actually do in the Gemini Sector...

- Decent assortment of weaponry and modifications

- Space anomalies, ion storms, radioactive nebulas, and all sorts of space disasters to endanger your ship

- It takes really long to get to high levels, get all the good ships, weaponry, kill bounty targets and such things

- Quite complex but rewarding enemy ship capture system, you can really do an awful lot of money if you get good at it...

- Overall, more than good longevity, to complete everything the Gemini Sector has to offer, DLCs included, it will take you, say around... 100 hours (i played the beta version before release in the past and did so)

===

The Bad

- Trading / Mining / Gas collecting / Scrap salvaging are good for making money at low levels, game start and quite a bit after, but from say level 15/20 and above, they become very underwhelming: contracts, bounties and most of all ship boarding surpass the gains by FAR, so players that want to play a Trading type character will be severely penalized in mid/late game and will have to do epic amounts of grinding to get anything

- You cannot destroy space structures if they are not part of a specified mission that involves their destruction. Solar arrays, gas collectors, bandit space stations, trading posts, all of them are completely indestructible: their structure will drop to 0 eventually but will still be perfectly fine. This MIGHT be a game design choice to avoid players break main quests and such, BUT doing so with all space structures is really unacceptable

- You can board space structures, and plausibly get all the sweet loot inside them right? Wrong my friends. Board a mining station, a resarch center or such, and the troops will say it is captured and the loot is being ejected outside: this will not happen. Never, ever. This feature might be incomplete or never finished by developers.

- You can only save your game while docked to a space station or a planet. Not a really big deal, just a poor game design choice

- Ship's autopilot can bug and randomly fly you inside space stations, space debris, asteroids, and turn your ship in a fireball.

- The ship's targeting computer is not able to target automatically asteroids or salvage piles, if you want to be a miner, be prepared to aim at every single little piece of asteroid manually and then collect its loot. This makes mining even more painful than it already is because of the problem i explained before

- The ship's targeting computer (yes, AGAIN) is able to, thankfully, target enemies in automatic fire mode, and is pretty accurate at it, more so than you doing it manually in fact, but the big issue is: the computer will randomly fire at all enemies in its range, and will NOT stay and focus fire on the enemy you locked on. You should understand how this will do in a battle. Yes, really bad.

===

The Ugly

- When boarding a ship, ANY ally ship, be it random, hired mercenaries or quest companions, will STILL target the enemy ship you are trying to board, and there is NO WAY to tell them to do otherwise. This results in extreme frustration because maybe you are actually succeeding in the believe me really difficult task of capturing a ship (especially at high levels), but then some random ally blows it up making you lose time, your troopers inside it, and maybe also a mission involving the ship capture will fail. The developers said this WOULD be fixed many times on forums and steam hub, well it never was.

- Ship capture is the ONLY feasible way of making good amounts of money from mid game and above: contracts will start giving you a pittance, trading will long be worthless and selling those nice ships for money will be your only chance of making money to get better stuff and ships to actually progress in the story or freeroam, because enemies scale with your level and get better everything, and so you must do the same. Yes you guessed it, the thing i said before about boarding, it happens a LOT, so you can choose between getting ulcer from boarding, or grinding 70 contracts in say 6 hours to get 1 tier III weapon for that slot you are missing, and then again and again and again.

- There is a bug that can happen randomly, i presume it is uncommon: after completing a Main Story or DLC Main quest (Happened to me just after finishing Aethera DLC), and this is a really severe bug. What it does is simple: it RESETS the entire quest line of the main story to a random mission, so basically instead of progressing to the next quest, it says the actual active quest is one you ALREADY completed, and i found no fix for this, system cache check, restarting, even savegame editing, nothing. This has lead me to be unable to play Titans DLC because the quest is broken, and who knows what sorts of troubles will other players get from this bug.

===

Conclusions

Honestly, SG2 is a nice space game, nowhere near the depth of some other games like the X series, but positively much more accessible than those, but still being complex enough to not become casualized, and that is all good.

Still, many problems as you read cripple the game and prevent it from becoming truly excellent.

I have mixed feelings for this game. I wish I could make the review neutral.

It's a space sandbox where you roam Gemini system, complete easy single objective quests, get money and buy better ships and guns. The game is quite slow-paced, and you'll probably want an open book at your table, so you can read it while your ship travels to whatever waypoint you've set. The combat system is pretty simple, devs probably wanted this game to be chilling instead of intense.

Positive moments:

- Beautiful space vistas and ships.
- You can destroy enemies, you can mine asteroids, you can buy things in one place to sell in another. It's a sandbox.
- A free DLC with alternative campaign from the first game.

Negative moments:

- The story is mediochre, we've seen all this a thousand times before.
- Voice acting in campaign is pretty bad.
- My PC fits the requirements, and yet the performance is really bad. I experienced crashes in long sessions too.
- Once you get yourself a carrier class vessel, you'll find out that there's like nothing else to do. You can bother yourself with achievements, but it isn't that fun.
- Unrealistic game world. Nebulas within a solar system, asteroids gathered in clouds rather than in rings, tiny planets and stars, you only fly forward when your engines are on: your ship stops once you turned them off, like a car would. I understand that it all was done to make the game less boring and more saturated with content, but it fells just toyish.

Starpoint Gemini 2 is still fun to play, even with the flaws I listed, but I can't recommend it for the full price. If you're into space, get it when on sale.

Highly recommended! This game is similar to so many other games, yet so different in every aspect. These guys really offered something special.
And if you have a question, devs are answering them on Steam forums 24/7. Something that is rarely seen.

My boyfriend got me this game cause I liked Evochron Mercenary. I'm as happy as I can be with it. Highly addictive and fun!

Thumbs up!

Update: After so many hours, I still feel compelled to return to the game from time to time. I left my heart in Gemini, it would seem. :)

I highly, highly recommend this title. Its vast universe will give you many hours of gameplay. Fantastic game, fantastic forums and support. Together with Secrets of Aethera and Titans, this is a huge game. Not to forget full original game port Origins, available as free DLC for all Starpoint Gemini 2 players.

Game is completely moddable so if you want to assume command of Enterprise or some other ship available in mods, you can. ;-)

Didn't expect much and got a masterpiece. I thought this was some 2D tower defense game and I was wrong. This is a brilliant 3D space game with tactical combat, fantastic soundtrack and the devs have a beautiful sense of humor. You are transporting Annoying Guy to the next station, pirates attack you while you have your cargo hold full of adult magazines and things like that.

Modding community is very active and there are so many mods here that everyone can find something for themselves. Star Wars, Star Trek, you name it.

Highly recommended!

Do I recommend it? Of course I do! It's a bloody masterpiece! And the fact that a team so small made a game this big is something I deepply respect. And that they are giving us free content updates regulary. And that they are actively talking to us on forums. And that they implement most of community suggestions. And that they made the game highly moddable and with Workshop support. Yes I deeply respect that and I wholeheartedly recommend this game. Even if you leave it after the campaign, you will still have more than 20 hours in it which alone makes it worth its price.

Their newest game, Warlords is still in alpha but I can see how bigger and better it might become until release. If you want to participate in Early Access, go with Warlords, and if you want a finished game, go with SPG2.

Pure awesomeness! I just adore those funny things like adult magazines and Very annoying guy and other details. This game has soul and it eats X: Rebirth for breakfast. And this community eats EvE's community for breakfast. Anyway, I'm not hungry anymore. SPG2 is here to stay and Warlords will be even better.

I love this game. I thought I had a game breaking bug. So I complained about it on the discussion page. A developer messaged me back. He asked me to send him my save file and log. It turned out to be a mod I had from a couple years ago. I deleted the mod and the game was working fine again!

This game is beautiful. It can get a little repeative. But I really enjoy it. It's a really good one for the genre. I recommend it. grab it on sale, and you will really get your money's worth!!

Since my life is so busy I cant play games much, I come from the angle of a almost n00b to the space sim, free open world games. I always wanted to see space but since our kind is more content sitting on this planet beating each other with sticks I suspect I wont achieve this dream....

So I bought most of the X series and I loved the idea but got so frustrated with the controlls and other nuancses that I probably spent about 4 hours in the last one I bought which was X3. I spent some time on X2 but due to lack of time I just never got into it.

If only there was decent space sim that is not so complex I need to study a 1000 page manual to get into it and this certainly proved to be the one I was looking for. Easy to get in but I suspect fiendishly hard to master.

Considering this is a brand new games studio I must give them a big 4 little thumbs up(I only have 4 thumbs). The interface is simple and clean. Objectives are forward and to the point. Graphics are great and I spend my time on the mindless train trip between Gordon and Blacktown with my laptop keeping me nice and warm as I just muddle around in the universe.

It is a bit grindy at the start as you try and figure how to get to bigger things but overall a very enjoyable experience if you want something really deep but not obscure.

Great effort and I am looking forward to what LGM studios brings out next.

Well what can i say i absolutely love this game. Every time i play this game it take's me back to when i used to play colony wars on PS1. This game is definitely made for people who dont have the time sit and grind the hell out of a game to get anywhere. For example im only 30 hrs in this game and im already running around the galaxy in a dreadnought feeling like a absolute power house. You rank up very quickly and theres easy money to make out their. Other then that the ships look awesome and the galaxy it self looks stunning.

the only thing i found wrong with this game is that it doesnt feel like a simulation it has more of a arcade feel to it but if your some one like me who doesnt have alot of time on your hands because of works and is raising kids then who give's a s@#$
