I AM IN LOVE WITH THIS GAME.

I bought this game about a year ago for a sale. I wanted to fill up my library and get points.
I never played it until now because I thought is was just some Neopet game.
I WAS COMPLETELY WRONG.

This game is BEAUTIFUL. The characters are fun and colorful, the places you travel to are diverse and deliver their own sets of emotions, and the story is heart wrenching. You can clearly see dedication for this game. Every line of dialogue is voice acted and has a character portrait (which is animated). And this includes all side quests and side characters. It's fun and just difficult enough to have fun with. It's fairly short if you "binge-play" it, but you get a lot for your money.
My only complaint is that if you choose to complete it to 117%, don't expect any major achievement. Sure, collecting all of a specific collectable gives you an achievement, but not finding all the keys or treasure chests. But that's all that is negative. Everything else is glorious. Games like this aren't normally available for OS, but it actually is!
I'm so happy I played this! And I'm going to try drawing the main characters now because I love them to death and I want to snuggle them.

I loved this game for its action packed side scrolling and the fact that you don't get too lost moving around the map.
The build up of the character is fun but could use a little customization for we all end up the same at the end. Other than that, it's funny, good story and good value for money.

An epic Fantasy flick full Trust,Betrayal,Redemption,Happiness jam-packed with adorable Characters and a beautiful 2D open-world just begging to be explored.
I would say it's one of the best IP published by Microsoft Studios till date.
Though the gameplay might be a little sluggish at times but it's worth every penny.
If you ask me I would give a solid 9.5 out of 10 for it's story
7.5 for it's gameplay
If you haven't grabbed it...
GRAB IT RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!

And I would love to see this game adapted to the sliver screen someday

I almost wouldn't believe that this was an indy game because it was so well done and so VERY fun to play. The visuals are fantastically hand drawn, and while the dialogue can be a bit cheesy at times (at the time that I first played it, it was very 'in vogue' to be as self aware as it is, but the core story still holds up very well even all these years later), it's overall very well done. All indy's should strive for this level of excellence.

I have two recomendations:

1: If you love or even just like Metroidvania style games, then you should play this. It's a classic indy that a lot of people miss.

2. If you are a furry, then you should DEFINITELY play this game. Need I say more?

Gorgeous but strangely unengaging.

The lack of a neutral button has proven a serious detriment to the validity of reviews on the very fringes of acclaim and this is no exception. Dust is a gorgeously made labour of love but it feels very lightweight in every aspect. Storyline light, design light, gameplay light. Lots to snack here but not much nutrition. Every aspect is perfectly functional and well made but lacking depth and I didn't feel any incentive to go deeper.

While the personal drive of the single developer is admirable the limited scope does show in the finished product. Graphics alone do not make a great game so I felt the same kind of detachment from the characters and their world that I felt for similar games like Odin Sphere that likewise excelled in style but never really draw you in emotionally or even with bare function.

Dust isn't bad but personally I can't recommend this game to anyone because everything here has been done before but better and more engaging. I know that "bored" is the least descriptive, helpful and insightful emotional state one can express but that was alas my main reaction, which I find curious because I like every part of this game individually (or rather in other games) but not the game as a whole.

If you like anthropomorphic animals (the cast is cavity-inducingly sweet) and the world of Dust you will get the same kind of enjoyment by watching a let's play on youtube as you would get from playing it.

Dust: An Elysian Tail is a tale about a person who can't remember who he is, and must follow the guidance of a talking sword, and a flying thing named Fidget, to discover his past, and find out who he is.

This is probably in my Top 3 Best Platformer of All Time list. It's seriously that good.
The art style is absolutely gorgeous, and breath taking. This is the most beautifully hand drawn game I have ever seen, for real. The characters look sub par, but what is really beautiful is the enviroment you play on. The background is detailied and beautiful, and the land that you do the platforming on isn't confusing because of how good it looks, unlike some games, where the platforming sections look beautiful, but it's almost TOO detailed, to a point where you don't know if you're gonna land on a certain platform or not. This game does not fall in that category, luckily.

I love a good platformer that also has good RPG elements. This game really has that: when you level up, which I will discuss how you do so later on, you get a skill gem. With this, you can increase one category. Attack, Health, Defense, or Magical Power. My personal favorite is magical power, you can twirl your sword so fast, it makes a dust storm, and then your companion Fidget can release magic, which by itself is harmless. But combined with your gust, it gets amplified. Using this ability is by far one of the most satifying parts of the game.

Speaking of which...the combat in this game is fan freaking tastic. I've personally never been a huge fan of side scrolling combo based combat: but this game does it so well, that I don't mind it. What I like is that doing combos rewards you by not just doing extra damage and making you look cool, but also rewarding you with extra EXP. I really could never get into games like Street Fighter, because there were simply way too many combos and tricks to learn. This game has some basic combos, that you can use throughout the entire game, I'm sure of it. And if you're up to the task, you can try learning some of the more hard to pull of combos. You can also use the dash ability to evade incoming attacks, and, if you're feeling a bit frisky, you can also try parrying. The combat feels smooth, and is one of my favorite parts of the game. From defeating enemies, you can also get certain trinkets, materials, and equipment...

This equipment can be equiped, and gives you slight stat boosts. You may also find blueprints, which can be brought to a blacksmith, to make ever better items. Speaking of blacksmiths, you need materials, which you can get from enemies, or to buy. If you have materials you don't think you have a use for, you can simply sell them for cash. I like this system, it gives you freedom as to what kind of playstyle you want. Want to be a tank that can absorb a bunch of damage, a cool mage, thanks to your friend Fidget of course, or maybe you just wanna be a badass swordsman who can take out crowds with your sword. The decision is entirely up to you.
Now, let's talk less about combat, and more about story and character: as I mentioned at the start of this review, you follow 2 characters: Fidget, and your talking sword. Fidget is by far my most favorite character in the game so far: she's funny, and sometimes breaks the forth wall in the most humorous ways. And hey, I really like who ever voice acted her. Speaking of voice acting, it's phenominal in this game. I'm moderately surprised that a game like this had such good voice acting. Anyways, to wrap up the story, so far it seems promising, with some nice characters, and some possible forshadowing that you may catch on to, might I add.

The soundtrack and sounds are well made. They feel smooth when they need to be, sharp when they need to be, and intense when they need to be. The music really sets in the enviroment, and while most of it is just ambience, it's still

So, is this game worth buying? If you like platformers of any kind, yes, it is. I'm honestly having trouble thinking of any negatives of the game. It has perfect 9s-10s in every category. Music, art, gameplay, story, style, it's got it all wrapped up in one neat little package.

This one the First Games I got 100% Achievement!

It's a good game, worth every second on it.
I bought in Summer Sale but if I knew it was that good I would bought in full price.

Anyways about the game:
The fluidity of the game is simple perfect . You can choose either straight and ignore or wipe everything.
Doesn't have so many bs and impossible bosses or achievements in fact I got 100% in the first run.
And Even so i would play it again.

The game itself has good soundtrack
Enjoyable Graphics
A nice repetitive battle mechanics( if you choose that)
NO LOADING SCREENS of 25sec ( you wait at maximum 3~5sec inload game and even suggesting you have bad pc as mine
Elements of Rpg (Basic stuff)
And a Tolerable story ( It s not bad or good. But you will respect it ) (+-)

In conclusion
Gameplay 10/10
Graphics 9/10
Sountrack 9/10
Story 8/10

Dust: An Elysian Tail is a wonderful take on the standard "Metroidvania" formula. You have a large world map that you can openly explore (or travel around with nifty waypoints) much like in Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. Throughout your adventure you'll visit a variety of different locations, level up your character, and meet a variety of different characters. While the voice acting is satisfactory at best, the combat, graphics, and soundtrack are all phenomenal.

The first item that must be discussed is the art style. While it's not as active and vibrant as other 2D games (like Rayman Origins or Rayman Legends) it still is beautiful enough to hold it's own. Everything has a hand-drawn look to it and the animation is fantastic.

Combat is another area where the game excels. You're given a talking sword as your main weapon but receive several upgrades and combos to fool around with so combat doesn't get stale. Having the option to counter enemies in a 2D game is always a great addition as well.

Getting 100% for this game wasn't particularly difficult. Most are story related and there are a few missable achievements if I recall but nothing too difficult. Overall it was a very fun game to 100% and quite satisfying as well.

I would highly recommend Dust: An Elysian Tail to any Metroidvania fans or 2D side-scrolling fans in general. It's a fun game that looks great and plays very well.

8.5/10
