This game is gorgeous and the dialogue can be funny. Some of the voices are annoying though. I like that some of the tasks are more challenging than others. I am almost done with my first play through and plan to go again at a higher difficulty setting.

Don't think of this as a game about furries. Think of it as what would happen if Don Bluth (look him up: you've seen his movies) got into making videogames in 2008.

Astonishing game. There's brilliant music and art, amazing story and sweet characters (everyone has their own personality and a story; even the minor characters like Matti boi), the voice acting- it's superb and lots of bloopers which I loved. Lotsa action, collectibles, arena challenges, weather change, atmospheric atmosphere, crafting, leveling, dem-feels and deez nuts. Would definitely play it for the third time on a higher difficulty.

Little kidsy and a bit to easy, but a very well put together game. It's weakness is in the loot, they built room for much more depth in their items and character that they don't use. However everything that is there is fully fleshed out with a very attractive come together in their art in motion.

All things considered, Dust is a fantastic metroidvania-esque game. I heard that one guy did almost all of the work on the game by himself. I think the only thing was the voice acting and some of the sound effects.

Some of the best features:

Great mechanics
Tight controls
Superb voice acting for a game of this scope
Combat feels great all the way through the game. Simple at it's core, but plenty to play around with
A great length for the scope and price of this game. I think my first playthrough on Normal took around 10 hours if I remember correctly
Sound and visual feedback during combat is one of the best I've ever seen, at least for a game of this scope.

Some things that might put people off:

Animal characters. I like the decision, but it may not be everyone's cup of tea
Combat may seem repetetive if you do the same one or two combos over and over
"easy" in the sense that there's no real difficult puzzles and enemies. Some can be challenging the first few times though. It's a game that you're meant to run through though, so the enemy mechanics shouldn't need to be very deep. Still, may not be for everyone.
Story is okay. Nothing groundbreaking though. Voice acting makes up for it in my mind however.
Dialogue-heavy at parts, but all the dialogue is skippable, so it's fine if you just wanna play and not pay attention.

Overall:

Good:
+Gameplay/combat
+Length
+Voice Acting

Ok:
Story
Level Design

Meh:
-Animal characters (if it's not your thing, didn't bother me)
-Lengthy (skipable) dialogue

8.5/10. Pretty great pick-up, especially for the scope of the game. Anyone who likes platformers or metroidvania type gameplay will be pleased. Hardcore mode offers a decent enough challenge. I'm pretty good at taking out enemies but I still die plenty and have to make careful decisions at times.

Breathtaking.

Music, art, story, atmosphere... 10/10.

Combat is pretty satisfying, though I wouldn't suggest playing on the higher difficulties.

For me, this is a one-and-done game. I don't see a ton of replayability. That said, this was one of my best gaming experiences ever.

Dust is a simple 2D action platformer with an undeniably gorgeous aesthetic, great audio and smooth responsive gameplay.

The story is nice for what it is, using the easy amnesiac hero trope to help introduce the player to the world, which is made more enjoyable by your companion being adorable, the other companion acting as a guide with both characters offering dialogue and advice during in-between sections of story to keep you amused going forward. The NPC's offering side-quests are a mixed bag on what you're going to get, with some offering interesting dialogue and others being dull fetch quests.

Level design is well thought out with plenty of variety, although you do feel discouraged to explore areas on your first run through the game as many areas are locked behind talent abilities that you unlock later in the game, forcing you to revisit areas once you're overleveled trivialising the exploration in the first place.

Interacting combat with your companions is interesting as it emphasises your ability to chain together a combo by giving you an auto target ranged attack so that as you're being a swirling blade master of death between enemies, you can keep that combo-chain going to gain bonus experience and if you do happen to come across a larger enemy, you can parry incoming enemy blows with a well timed attack making you near immortal, even on the highest difficulty.

Overall I had plenty of fun during my play through, which is of a good length. Making it well worth picking up in a sale if you're interested in a simple 2D action platformer.

Metroidvania with a *beatiful* setting, furry characters, fast combat, fun and a decent challenge but certainly not 'Nintendo hard'

The backgrounds for this game are absolutely gorgeous. They have a handpainted look along the lines of Muramasa and Odin Sphere. Characters look good, but not quite as good as the backgrounds. The cast is very much furry, but not in a fetishy way. For me this was neutral, but if you're a furry I'd recommend this even more, and if you just can't stand furries you should probably avoid it.

Combat is very fluid. Sometimes almost too much so, aerial moves leave you soaring across the screen and can home in on nearby enemies. This can be great for boosting to secrets and shortcuts, but occassionaly can fling you away from the fight or even into an area you didn't mean to go. The combat isn't exactly hard, but do require different tactics for different enemies. Some are almost invlunerable till you parry them, others explode if you get near, etc. For most of the game it seemed like enemies couldn't do one-hit kills, the first blow that would take you to 0 HP took you to 1 HP instead. This seemed to stop being true about 2/3rds through (on Tough). Since you don't start with regen this is nice for letting you conserve healing items and if you play carefully reduces the need to level HP.

Gear is mostly a linear progression of improvement other than rings, which have some specialized bonuses (item find, extra XP, stat multipliers) you'll be choosing between. Levelling is straightforward too. You can choose between improved health, attack, defense or special attack, but they can't be more than 4 points apart from each other so no extreme specialization.

Dust: An Elysian Tail is an amazing game, probably one of the best games I have ever played. Lets get started then!

The gameplay is AMAZING. The fighting system makes you feel powerful and is easy to get the hang of, but enemies can be pretty intelegent and hit hard to balance it out. Dust may be a hard game but it's also fair, if you get hit you have nobody to blame but yourself. Controles are responcave, but I have to wounder why the are optimized for left handed people. Nothing against left handed people, it's just right-handedness is far more common. Not that this subtracts from anything. 10/10 for gameplay.

Level design is good. You are never really bafeled on what to do next. The first half half the the game has really fun level design, but it starts going downhill on chapter 3, the last part of the game is pretty good though. Enemies, while fun to fight, should have had a little more veriety, especially during the last 2 chapters. Most of the bosses merly meet the stadards they have, but the final boss is increadably good. Overall I give the level disign a 8/10

Music is... Meh. While the all music is very pretty, there are only two memorable songs; the song for the last stretch before the final boss, and the final boss's song. 7/10

The art is... Wow. Just wow. The art style is wounderful, and each sprite looks like it was hand-painted. Easilly the having the best grafics I have ever seen in a videogame, Dust is the only game where I can honastly say the grafics increased my enjoyment. Plus, there is a mode for colorblind people to deal with the few spots in the game where you need to see color. 10/10 for art.

And now for the story. Which is great. Dust is one of the few games that got me to care about the story. The ending subratcs a little though. (SPOILER ALART!) You die at the end. OK, I can see that sacrifice as being nessisary. But then you might not be dead? After burning in lava? Really? (END SPOILER ALART!) 9 out of 10 for story.

Well that wraps that up. I would EASILY recomend this game. It's a little short, so if you get it try to do all the sidequests. Luckily multiple diffaculty settings triple the replayability. (Just don't do casual. Casual mode is for wimps. You can't die in that mode.) 8/10 overall.

One of the best action platformers that I have played. It was incredibly fun to play through and story keeps you wanting to keep playing. The treasures in each level keep you coming back to locations to finish the game fully. Only downside I, in my opinion, is the backtracking required to actually finish the game "100%."

Pros:
+fantastic story
+fluid combat
+character development and connection
+great scenery and graphic as a whole
+soundtrack is amazing
+crafting is not impossible and can be fun

Cons:
-some secret levels can be hard to find
-once you get certain items, healing and damage can be unbalaced
-100% is not full finish of game as it goes to 112%

Don't let the "deviantart furry" art style fool you, this is one of the best metroidvanias out there, a lot of emphasis on the "vania" part as there's a lot of influence from the old Castlevania games as well. Combat heavy but not light on exploration. Good characters and voice acting. Great environments. Lots of good action (though maybe a bit simple). I really like the store system where you catalogue crafting items by selling one to a store, and after that stores start gradually stocking up on them, so you don't have to go grind for them yourself when you need them.

I highly recommend this game. Maybe I'm a fool but I actually shed a few tears at some point. (trying to not say when so as to not disclose anything)

It's a bit childish here & there but I found that actually amusing. You should by now have understood that it's mainly a story based game. I'd dare say it's in the same vein as "Child of Light", though "Child of Light" is much much easier( played both on hard)

Graphics are alright, a bit less detailed than say "Child of Light".
the gameplay was overall good. a couple of frustrating pure "platforming" stages, but honestly it's nothing undoable.
Playing on hard, I farmed a bit here & there but nothing outrageous (see playtime)
On the technical aspect, I got two crashes of the game in the whole playtime, not perfect but not crippling either.

A fun, immersive game, not much of a challenge even on the highest difficulty setting. The voice acting can be subpar at times but good at others; overall it's a nice game to mindlessly kill things for a while. Some humour here and there as well.

The game itself:

I have played it to a completion of about 83% in 15.5 hours, so it has a decent lenght, I absolutely adore this game and i realy wish for a sequel

but anyway, i am getting distracted, here are the pros of the game:

+ a very epic and wonderfull story
+ Characters who all have their unique charm
+ gorgeous scenery and music
+ a very fluid combat style
+ no material "grinding" once you sold a piece of material, the shopkeepers will restock it themselfes overtime
+ a very nicely done crafting system

but as with every game, there are contras altho i cant find many:

- some secret areas are impossible to find without a guide or something (and thats something you WILL need to do for some certain quests)
- some may think that the game is to cartoony in terms of style, but thats something i personally love
- platforming can be a bit unbalanced at times
- you need insane ammounts of healing items on the higher levels

This is an extremely fun Platformer/Hack n' Slash that includes tons of fun secrets and interesting upgrades that will keep you playing until the end, and if you're a completionist, to the end of the end.

A short, beautiful game that tells an unexpectedly satisfying, meaningful story. As a platforming beat-em-up, it's not particularly difficult or complex, but the strong vocal performances propel the game forward in an immersive, compelling way. Upgrades and new abilities are well-paced throughout, allowing you to choose whether you'd like to keep pushing forward, or backtrack for hidden treasures. I will separately note that the musical score is also extremely strong, with Hyperduck providing BGM that is memorable and very much a pleasure to listen to.

With so many games featuring a laundry-list of tacked-on features or grindy content filler, it is refreshing to play an exploration game that gets to the point by focusing on its core competencies, and does them well. This game was recommended to me, and I now recommend it to you.

I'm usually not a fan of platformers, but this one is absolutely awesome. The graphics can only be described as a treat for the eyes, the music really helps set the atmosphere (and it doesn't feel repetitive!). The enemies and obstacles scale nicely in a way that makes sure the player won't get bored until the end. And on top of that, there are extra treasures to be found and challenges to try your hand at if you feel like doing something a bit more complicated than the usual jumping around.

And then there's the plot. However straightforward or, at times, downright predictable, it's told in such a way that you'll want to see how it plays out in the end. And then you'll keep mulling over it.

This is an exceptional game, and a story I know I'll keep coming back to. Completely worth more than its full price.
