About This Game

WINNER: IGF China award for BEST GAME!

Cubetractor is a neo-retroesque action-strategy-puzzle hybrid where you defeat enemies through an unconventional cube-pulling, turret-buildling mechanic.

The game carries elements of a reverse tower defence and a grounded bullet-hell dodger to deliver a unique gameplay experience presented in a classic top-down perspective.

You play as Endroi, a menacingly happy-go-lucky quadrubot as he strives to master the art of Cubetracting -- the art of attracting Cubes. It's a deceptively straightforward skill that involves dexterity, acute awareness, multi-tasking and tactical positioning. You'll have to strategize, solve and fight your way through multitudes of enemy installations to achieve your coveted goal.

Features

  • 40+ maps for you to pull, crush and build: Levels carefully designed to bring out the emergent dynamics in a unique mechanic.
  • Symmetrical Balance: Why do bad guys always have to be stronger than you? In Cubetractor, the enemy structures are exactly the same as yours, other than they got there first. Defeating them is a matter of thoughtful timing and positioning.
  • Purely indie-made: Done by 2 people, living off their savings, working off random coffee joints.
  • Hardcore Awards for Hardcore Players: The main levels are designed for speedruns. Collect all the batteries, reach the finishing goal within impressively tight time limits -- do all that without a scratch -- to earn the most coveted of accolades. Don't worry, there are also options for those of us that are more human.

This is a great game.
I love the pixelated art and the simple gameplay.
You play as a robot and your job is to pull cubes.
As the game progress you can combine cubes to make a cannon, wall, power plant, etc...

This game is quite hard too. You need to consider where you build your things to maximize your your power.
To get perfect score (4 stars) you have to finish the level flawlessly (collect all the batteries, finish below the time limit and taken no damage at all).

No this is not a tower defense game.
This is an action puzzle game with a bullet-hell twist based on getting quick times, collecting all the pickups, and not getting hit.
There aren't many levels overall 12 main levels with some sidequests[HLTB says 4 hours for campaign], and there are tutorial levels mixed in.
The graphics and soundfx fit very well together and emulate a 16 bit title well. I honestly wasn't paying attention to the music, the gameplay is hectic and it took most of efforts to dodge bullets.
I've had a lot of fun playing and I'll go back to finish the campaign. Getting 4/4stars on each level seems incredibly hard and I only managed to perfect the first level so far. I decided to write this because the helpful reviews filter was just awful for this game.
I think anyone who enjoys top down action, action/strategy or dodgy-shooter type games will like this game.

Maybe a bit expensive for €9.99, but I'm loving the game, the puzzles, the music, the pixel art and the ridiculous conversations in game. If you like quick wit puzzle games, this is a good one!

The combination of a slight delay needed for every input, the coordination required for building, and the fact that you take damage from everything including the blocks you use to build stuff results in an extremely frustrating underlying experience. To make matters worse, you are stopped dead anytime you take damage, and this on top of the slight delay built into the game creates a very odd start-stop style that makes coordination even more annoying and frustrating then it might've been otherwise.

Stay away unless, well, you've seen gameplay and thought "I must play that" on sight. If you're on the fence, it's probably not worth it.

If you can settle with gold/silver/bronze, this game is fun and easy.

If you're a perfectionist, like me, and NEED master.... It's harder than Impossible Game, Dark Souls, Quake, and Superhexagon combined. Pissing me the ♥♥♥♥ off the entire time I'm playing it.

11/10 surprisingly fun for what it looks like.

If you're willing to dig into mechanics that'll make you count distance and learn the timing on when to fling what where, this is a fun game where you're dodging and combining objects to make protection/offense against the environment to solve puzzles and survive. It's also exceedingly cutesy.

If you're not, though, you'll probably get tired of this a few stages in like I did. Doesn't make it a bad game, just makes it not my cup of tea.

Other cool facts: game has a ranking system which is pretty good and also doesn't expect you to get ALL THE STARS every time - the highest rank can be earned from minute one of the game, but clearly is designed for a replay once you've gotten good at it (they require obscenely tight timing + offing all enemies and collecting their batteries + never taking a hit). So that's cool.

It's like fucking tower defence but instead of fucking tower defence it's fucking tower attack. Fucking boss.

This game is essentially the reverse of a tower defense game, and it will provide you with roughly 6 or 7 hours of gameplay.
If it's in a humble bundle, you must buy it! -8/10

Good game, nice blend of mostly puzzle with a little timing (or, if you go for the speed ratings, a lot of timing). Little on the short side even with all the sidequests, but I'm not sure that's necessarily a bad thing, better than just keeping on getting harder until people quit in frustration, and if you still want a challenge you can go for the 'master' rating on every level!

A cute little game which has you pulling blocks to build towers to defeat other towers..

It's very basic...more basic than free flash games...or iOS games...

Definitely not worth a purchase...at the very most you'll spend about 1 hour on this game, and then discover how little it has to offer.

Keep in mind, this is not "Tower Defense" , this is a very basic puzzle game which focusing on dodging bullets, and timing actions perfectly to build the correct setup to complete each level.

To get a basic idea... you are a robot which has no abilities besides movement, and the ability to pull blocks across the map. There will be enemies on the level which you have to destroy. You can pull blocks over your enemies, or you can pull two blocks together to create a turret. While this is happening you will have to dodge bullets and avoid being taken out yourself. That is basically the entire game.

Do not read into the tower defense part. This is strictly a puzzle/action game. You also are locked into using your keyboard for movement and using your abilities. Perhaps there is controller support, but definitely no mouse. You use arrow keys for movement, z and x for activation.

All you do is pull blocks to solve levels through either moving blocks into enemies, or combining them to make your turrets/towers. THAT is your tower defense part of the game, but it's honestly not enough like an actual tower defense game to deserve that comparison.

I personally wasn't that taken by the game, but I can see where others might have an amusing time with it. Only certain puzzle games work for me, and this isn't one of them. It also requires a bit too much in the way of perfect timing, and quick reflexes, in a bothersome control scheme, from what I would think most puzzle buffs would prefer.

Fun little game. Will grab your attention for an hour or so.
Basically you use this cute little robot tractor to pull cubes across the screen. The cubes can be used as weapons to take out baddies or combined to make turrents. NES style graphics and runs real smooth (as you would expect). Chirptune midi

I was suprised by how much fun this game actually is after just a couple levels. Each level increases in difficulty and theres a story that I haven't payed any attention to. Fun oldschool style game.

This would've been a pretty nice Flash game, but it's not really worth the few bucks on Steam.

Delightful real-time puzzle game. The cube pulling control is a clever idea, and the levels follow a nice difficulty curve. Things were challenging enough that I didn't get bored but I also never felt stuck. It's refreshing to see a puzzle game with a unique game mechanic, one that isn't yet another familiar type like a Bejeweled clone (match-3). The plot is goofy but harmless. It's short-ish (I finished it in ~7 hours) and I found it to be a lot of fun.

I thought this game was an action strategy game, but it is really just a straight action game. I played the first few levels, which were okay but nothing special.

When it started to get a bit harder, the difficulty was purely due to the action elements, the strategy required in the level was obvious. That might be okay, but the controls are also not great, despite being very simple.
