Small World 2.5 Update is Available!

Introducing Small World 2.5

Featuring an even more refined online game system that delivers the best of both asynchronous and competitive online play, Small World 2.5 now gives you:
  • A full-featured Lobby with real-time chat, list of connected players, game creation and list of open games to join. Within this Online Arena you’ll find a thriving community of avid Small World players ready to play 24/7.
  • New Single-Session Online games – real-time gaming with bots taking over when someone quits. Even better, all games now run with a Speed Chess-like competitive Player clock that controls how much time each player has left to play.
  • Multi-Session Online games – the asynchronous gaming already in Small World 2, but with even more options to control who gets invited, how long your game will last, and a myriad of other options regarding ranked games, karma filtering, starting player selection, and more.
  • We’ve also implemented more of everything: More ranking, persistent in-game chat, chat in the final score screen, and a super detailed statistics screen at the end of each game to analyze how each player performed with various race/power combinations.
  • And last but not least, we now provide a Linux version, included in the same SteamPlay™ package!

Small World 2.5 in Open Beta!

For the past 6 months, we've been hard at work on the next digital version: Small World 2.5. We've added a new "Online Arena" with a live lobby, a list of open games, and full chat capability; support for single-session games, with a new Player Clock for competitive game play; a new Stats screen at game end; improved AI and much more.

Before this new version launches, we want to make sure we got it right, and that it really scales up, so we would like to get as many concurrent players as we can competing against each other in the coming days.

So please come and try it! In your Steam Library, select the game's Steam "Properties", go to the "BETAS" tab and switch to the "beta_version" item.

Make sure you read the explanations on http://www.daysofwonder.com/msg/?th=29279 about the Beta Program. Using the Beta requires that you agree with the terms described in the Beta Program.

We look forward to hearing from you, have fun with the Beta!

My fiance and I own the board game. This version is faithful, and has a lot of the fun elements of the board game, and plays very quickly versus the computer. The random attributes + race attribute combo keeps it from getting dull, and there seems to be a very active comunity. Additionally, it seems like they are putting all the expansions out as DLC over time, so there's gonna be a lot of content on the horizion. Its a fun time!

Exactly the same board game for the work days between the fysical smelly encounter with your frie....wait. Why do i still meet up with people when I can sit here naked without judgement? Excactly, neither do you! Get this game and laugh at them without ever seeing each other.

Due to the syncing via DaysOfWonder server you can play the same games turn based on android and steam. They sync is instant...man i love the instant sync. Did i mention you can just do a move via the steam client, go to the toilet with your android device in hand and do your next turn on the stairs while breaking your neck? I know what your thinking, easy win for the ranking.

Indeed.

One of the worst GUI in $10+ games I played.

However, it fulfills all the attributes of the board game without any mess. Have a drink, yell at your friends, [bip!], and have a good time.

Great adaptation of a great board game thouroghly enjoyed playing it solo and with local friends, Only real issue is a lack of rule customizability (which is definately a word) of the rules and AI as you would get with the sort of house rules in the actual board gamebut still a great board game.

A solid implementation of one of my favorite board games of all time. What more can you ask for?

What's good compared to the board game version:
- cheaper
- faster
- can be played in the train or airplane or whatnot, on tablets and smartphones
- you don't need a group of friends around if you have the sudden urge to play the game

In what ways the board game version is superior:
- more socializing, talking, laughter and whatnot
- more content, expansions, special powers, races, the underground version of the game, the version with those global effects, scenarios, team game, creating own maps, more maps, supports up to 6 players (instead of 5 in the digital version), artifacts and holy places

As I have both this version and the board game, I can say that I like both. I got this with the humble bundle, so it was quite cheap. I found so far other players easily, and there are lots of options on how to play the game (on the same tablet with others, against bots, against up to 4 other players). What I really like is even if you have no expansions whatsoever, if you join a game where the hosting person has the expansions, you also have access to them for the duration of the game.

In short: a fun game. If you have a tablet, even more so.

I have to say, this is the best port of a board game I've played! It's easy to grasp if you've played the tabletop version, looks great and has excellent music/sound effects! 5/5 stars!

If You have ever played the board game it's a game for You! Same rules + expansions, however you can play with random people online or vs AI, keep your highscore, hot-seat by the computer or play through LAN.

If you like Small World then Small World 2 (PC/Android) version is for You.

Its a great game, and very enjoyable to play, especially as there are lost of different combinations of races that you can play with or against. You can play against other computer players, or with friends locally or across the world.

Small World 2 stays true to the board game. The graphics and strategies remain. It keeps the game mechanics, so anyone who has played on the table can translate their experience to the game here easily. I chose to buy the online version for a couple reasons:
1) No set up and no accidentally missing or moving pieces.
2) No accidentally mistaking a rule.
3) The online experience lets me play with friends who have moved far away.
If you play German board games or if you like strategy, Small World 2 is fun because there are so many variations on the player’s character choices. You might play trolls or amazons out of habit, but the attributes they have in a given game can completely change the way you play them.

Awesome game, plays exactly like the board game and ensures that you won't make any rules mistakes. Random bugs do happen and would love to see a patch. It's totally playable right now and it's a lot of fun.

I enjoy this game. I haven't really had an easy time finding multiplayer games though... This edition has allowed me to correct mistakes I have been making with the rules while playing the board game so it was worth the price of admission for that alone! :)

Decent version of the boardgame experience, although latest version does seem to have some issues playing on fullscreen.

A nice easily playable fun little stratay game. As an owner of the actual boardgame and expansions as well, I can't promote this enough.
