When I was a born Tropican I use to listen to Juanito speak on the radio. He would say news good and bad especially about El Presidente. He said that everyone is dying from starvation and shacks are built almost everywhere. He was on El Presidente's side when things got bad and good and will never stop accepting his failures. El Presidente was joining the Communist superpower and Juanito still cheered for him. There was a lot of houses being built, tenements, apartments, country houses and farms. Our island OIPKWQGIJWGPIYOLOSWAGVILLE was getting circled around by American gunships. The Russians defended OIPKWQGIJWGPIYOLOSWAGVILLE and I knew there was hope for El Presidente.
20 years later it turned into Las Vegas but with 50x the tourists.

EL PRESIDENTE IS LOVE, EL PRESIDENTE IS LIFE.

Having never played a Tropico game before I didn't know what to expect in this game. I got this free from Humble Bundle and I have found it incredibly enjoyable, sometimes too easy and also slightly frustrating at times but on the whole fun.

The scenario you're placed in is a fantastic idea (small banana republic torn between capitalism and communism) and gives your small towns a personal feel rather than just a mass of housing in a giant metropolis. Essentially you're a poor nation building up a small island to become a global success through tourism or commerce. Your main aim in the game is to please these sims and you can view each one and what they're upto by clicking on them or completely ignore them and play the game like you would simcity, the choice is yours.

I will also try the new games of the series. Anyway If you like City Sim games you'll probably love this. [8.5/10]

Brilliant city building game with lots of tropical flavour, lush graphics and a fun soundtrack. There's a nice political element to the game which means you have to keep citizens with different tastes and needs happy so that you are re-elected and avoid rebel attacks etc. There's also plenty of things to build that cover different aspects such as housing, entertainment, tourism and industry etc. Every citizens life plays out in great detail too and from the moment they arrive on the island you can follow them around from work to home and everything inbetween. Highly recommended.

More of a slower paced game. If you like games like Zoo Tycoon, Sims, etc, you will like this game.
This game's humor is pretty good. Games like these don't change much as new ones come out but any Steam sale, get Tropico 4 or later if it is on sale.

El Presidente for life!!!!!!!!!!!

Day 6:The U.S has stopped visiting me. I'm a terrible El presidente.
Day 7: i've left the island, moved to America live in a...a...A Tenement whhhhhhyyyyy.
Day 8: they've made a game about me...You have to go in kill the commies and save my lonely little self.
Day 9:My dreams of being a dictator have failed, now i sit watching soap operas in my small 200sq ft home on the 8th floor of a tenement in chicago.
Day 10...:here lies El presidente, the Dictator wannabe, never has anyone failed so greatly at ruling a 3 mile island than him.May he rest in peace....

If you like town building/management game then you might like this game. This game is fun to play but it can get bored quickly if you play it like everyday because it can be repetitive. However, if you play this game like once a week then you should be fine.

It takes a bit of time to get used to this game and I suggest you to read the guides in the community hub if you do not know how to play it. Overall this is a good game. Give it a try if you like town building/management game.

Tropico 4 and 5 are so similar to this that if you are on a budget just get Tropico 3 instead. (4 literaly reuses many of the models)

Ive played all tropicos and i still enjoy playing this one. This is a great city builder game. You are the presidente of your island and you must make a city while making sure the citizens love you and enjoy their housing. While doing this you must face war with russia or u.s depending on your relationships, aswell as citizens turning to rebels to fight you. The game has a lot of cool things such as making choices on what to say on your speech, facing assassination attempts, election day, and weather disasters.

Pros
Good Graphics
Good building choices
Custom El Presidente (your person)
Rebels will fight you
Election day
good music for the game setting
Citizens will voice their concerns
College grads and high school are a big thing on this game

Cons
Roads are to big
Map sizes some are big but most of the land is high hills so you cant build much
once you die the game ends (wish your kid could retake the throne.

The nostalgia of previous versions of Tropico linger and I still enjoy this version as much as I did the last couple. There are a few bugs here and there, such as hearing multiple voice overs simultaneously in the tutorial and a frustrating amount talking where one should be playing, however once the tutorials are passed and the game begins, it's a world of fun. The game requires a bit of patience and sum of time, but for those who enjoy problem solving, this game is for you. A good buy and worth every cent.

For an old game and it was free on Steam this has given me more hours of enjoyable gaming than most Ive paid for. Ive not played any other Tropico.

I start up my little plot to rule and I get lost looking into my citizens. their thoughts, who they live with, the drama when i notice someone replaced their spouse with a younger version :3 Its also fun to rulebut can be tough at times, you are the presidente

I love it!

Actually, I'm a long time RTS player that loves to play war games on my PC. And I'm aware that this game exist for years now, but I didn't get a chance to try this because I was not so interested in this game back then, or maybe I just don't know how good it was and what are the mechanics that made this game unique to other RTS out there.

My attitude with RTS games back in the day was, if it's not Liquid Ent., Blizzard or EA's RTS work like Battle Realms, Red Alert, Generals, Warcraft etc. then I won't try play it.

But when Valve and publisher behind this game decided to release and give away free Keys for 24 hours, I didn't hesitate to get one and DL this game immediately and play it. And yes I was suprised how good this game is, its very well made and you will definitely enjoy this.

What I like about this game so far:

- You will get a chance to run a country like 'Tropico'
- You will also get a chance to become a dictator/Leader like Fidel Castro in virtual world.
- Manage all the resources and aid given by US or USSR and build structures to grow Tropico's economy.
- Deal with all the rebels who's planning to destabilise your leadership. lol
- Yeah, the graphics are dated or outdated (whatever you call it) but it won't stop you for enjoying it.
- The game's real time AI reactions are really good enough. There are protest, rebellions, International Community reactions, war and even budget deficits that could make your economy down from debts if you build a lot of projects simultaneously.

And lastly, I have a suggestion for the devs of this game since this is (old?) and the graphics are no longer acceptable in the standard of this generation. Why don't they port this game on modern powerful Smartphones and Tablets that have Quad core CPUs and GPUs? I think that this game is very ideal for Touch screen devices since this is purely RTS and doesn't require much of buttons to play.. And to end this review, I will definitely recommend this game to anyone, even on Aliens living on Mars.
