The game is ok. Could be better yes, but is ok. So much people complaining, like the developers are guilty for few empty servers. Personally, I even enjoy the game more when there are some 5-15 players instead of full servers with 24. It's true that it can be hard sometimes cause some players are really good and love to kill you 8234792384723 times and even hit your body once you are already dead (I know, you just wish to ♥♥♥♥ them with their own chair :v ), but so what? is it that too much people here on Steam is unable to grow balls and simply become better? ("FUUUU BAD REVIEW! UNINSTALL!"). Besides, while I was playing and one of that type of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥s was killing everyone, we actually vote-kicked him cause it was really too much lol (which is actually quite unfair, since is not his fault to be good). Don't cry so much, there are far "worse" games than this one on Steam and they even have sarcastic good reviews (or at least I hope they are being sarcastic...), and/or games that you start playing and first thing you do is spawn, check around and die (when they are actually RPGs with a storyline errhh).
Regarding its price, it certainly isn't worth the normal price (24 euros), maybe it is worth its current price (6 euros), and appart from this, I admit I bought it from a reseller so... yeah I payed way less. "10/10" not regretful.

Wow, what the heck is with that price tag! I bought this game years back at it's pre release, when people accualy played,,, and doubt I payed more than $15,,, No wounder the servers died, what were you devs thinking putting that price on. I love Mount & Blade Warband (it's still the best), and I once thought this game was gunna be the next, but that price clearly killed this game, and though it would be great, THE SERVERS ARE DEAD!

Very fun and addictive, just mostly low populated servers and dead community. Bring back development and this game will thrive and rise again. Hell, why not add a single player gameplay, bots or survival? I know the devs left this game but hey, I'll leave it here anyways.

Giving it a 7.2/10 due to devs leaving the game, no SP and less players.
Game is dead like the Norsemen that existed before us.

THis pile of ♥♥♥♥ needs to be removed from the store. Paradox is stealing money from people who buy this and then can never play it because they dropped support for the game after leaving it in a totally unplayable state, This should be illegal if it isn't already/

TL;DR Review: THIS SHOULDN'T BE FOR SALE. DO NOT BUY, WASTE OF MONEY.

Real Review: This used to be my favorite game. I bought the base version back in October of 2013 and eventually wound up buying both the $30 and (now defunct) $120 upgrade. I was the first NA player to hit rank 60 and was ranked 5th in the list of earned exp upon the game's full release. This is a little bit of my War of the Vikings pedigree and I'm presenting it to you to prove that, when it comes to this game, I know what I'm talking about. I also like to brag.

Throughout this game's history it's had many ups and downs. Unfortunately, there has never been as much of a down down as this current down. Its almost as though the last developer to work on this game had some sort of down... syndrome. Now while that little bit of sodium might make it sound like I'm some bitter oldtimer who's sh!tposting about the direction the game is headed in, please believe me when I say that I'm not. I've enjoyed a solid 975 of the 983 hours I've spent playing this game - I've gotten my money's worth. The unfortunate thing about this game is that if you buy it today, you will not have the same experience that I did.

To illustrate why this is, I've created a very simple pros and cons list. While this list would have been massively different before the game's original dev team left in late 2014, the work of WotVs most recent developer has left the game in this very unfortunate state.

Pros:
none

Major Cons:
terrible hit detection (and the game is massively reliant upon hit detection)
frequent in-game crashes
dead player base (haven't seen more than 30 online in FOREVER, usually 0-10 online)
no single-player
slated for no further development

Minor Cons:
startup crashes (I've had to relaunch 8 or 9 times on multiple occasions)
terrible design choices (my opinion, arguable)
North Korean forum moderation (dissenting threads locked, terrible design choices militantly defended)

Now after reading that you might be thinking "if this really is the current state of the game, why is it still being sold?" And to that question, I have no answer. From a moral perspective, this game should not be for sale. If you really, truly love viking stuff you might be able to squeeze out a grand total of 5 hours of enjoyment from this piping hot pile of garbage. After that I promise you that every time you launch this game you'll feel the deep, deep shame that can only come from watching the type of porn that has to be viewed through a proxy server. The type of shame that makes you think "why am I doing this - why am I alive?"

I just can not stress to you how much this game sucks.

I am not going to lie guys, this game has serious problems. Being a Paradox fan I was very happy when I found out that they have decided to make a game with Vikings. Having played War of the Roses I have to admit that the experience is far worse than I have expected. The weapons, life bar and stamina are creating difficulties to newer players as two hits, or even one can prove fatal. You find that you remain without stamina quite often whilst you wonder how your foe manages to strike so many times...the worst though is the defence mechanics. The shield or sword/axe parry has a 'limited' function as you cannot defend yourself too much as the stamina bar gowes down really fast and it doesn't cover too much of an area.

It is worth mentioning that whilst in War of the Roses you earn a decent amount of money with which you can upgrade and customize yourself in War of the Vikings you have to put some money becasue after a match you'll find that you haven't earned even for a new weapon.

Lastly, I am very disappointed about the fact that I have to close down certain features of my antivirus and start Steam on Administrator mod if I want to play it as the AntiCheat fails to start and I believe that is why many of the servers are now empty (far too many errors and bugs).

This is a Great game, very well put together. The graphic, sounds and gameplay are very smooth. One of my favorite game by far.! If you love instant PvP, and fast paced combat this game is for you. There is a very easy learning curve as well with the combat system so even the newest of players can become decent in a matter of a few games played.

the combat in this game could be better to swing you need to move your mouse in one direction and then it will swing however your camera also moves when you do that so you need to aim twice for one strike that is the turn down for me the other thing that bothered me were the animations they are very simple and dull the blocking can be hold for as long as you want as far as ive seen and cannot be moved once you block and want to move to the other side (need to release and click and move again for new block overall i dont like this combat the graphics were decend but the rest was lacking

Advertise it. Do something. This game was abandoned by a multitude of players including myself simply because it was unplayable at release. Now that it's been largely fixed there is a serious lack of players. I would like to get back into this game, as I have a minor obsession with Viking culture but as it stands, this graveyard isn't really worth trying to play.

I used to love this game. I played it from the early acces beta up until the 2015 january patch when the developers stated they would no longer keep working on the game and posted a list of changes that were supposed to fix the remaining bugs in the game. However this made the game completely unplayable. If I was reviewing this in 2014 I'd say ♥♥♥♥ yes, buy this game. But in it's current state it's just not worth it. Also FYI I bought the blood eagle edition and feel really sorry for the people who were tricked into buying valhalla edition.

no big changes to this game since i first bought it. Weapons all do the same amount of damage and you'll probably die from a high ping player ghost hitting you. Don't buy this game until a different game developer decides they can do it right. only a few maps available and only 2-3 servers with anybody on them if any (good luck if you live in america trying to get a full server with low ping) Fatshark......cmon guys... try again

The combat system is like chivalry where you move your mouse to slash in a certain direction which is kinda difficult. The player base is non-existant, its really hard for new players to join because the only people who play it are experienced lvl 60 players which is why people end up not playing this game. This game isn't worth buying unless you got it in the humble bundle. The concept is all there with this game and would be good but the game has no development team nor playerbase to advance.

Awful, just awful. I'm not sure what they did but compared to WotRoses it feels like they tried to appeal to a more casual audience by dumbing this game down to be more arcade-y.

Where are the people, this game is on humble bundle and yet all i see are 12 people scattered across like 2-3 game servers. The average people are spending is $6 meaning most people of the 51,000 or more that got the bundle have this game. I can only assume these people are ghosts of some holiday or something like humble bundles past cause 12 people in a game thats this fantastic is horrible to see. I did come across a bunch of crashes and there is always one and it happens when i hit the play button once then if i hit it again it runs, and just recently it crashed mid game as i was readying an attack.
