"Receiver is interesting for two things. One, it focuses on a single weapon, the Colt 1911 A1, and takes it very seriously, using "high detail gun mechanics", which means you can "manipulate each part of the gun independently" (the beginning of the video shows this in action). The second is that it's a randomly-generated shooter that features permanent death. Taking place inside a single building, every time you die, you have to start at the very beginning again, but the entire game world is re-rolled. This game has some cool gameplay mechanics for the reaload,enemies and the bullets.I think they should add a rare chance that you find a weapon while you are playing and you can use both at the same time in each hand or use one and switch to the other that i think would be pretty cool.

Receiver is like an STD.
Its host was beautiful and charmed me with hours of fun.
I then tried what I got "for free" from it.
I lost 3.8 hours of my life trying to justify this purchase, constantly battling against it.

Give the game a go if you're looking for a game that'll scratch your itch for smart and complex gunplay or kill a few hours, but don't get your hopes up for a more refined experience, even with mods taken into consideration. This package is incomplete, the mods for it are by and large incomplete, and that's the long and short of it. It's worth five bucks, sure, but that's not saying a whole lot.

This is the best shooter ever made - a pc gamer.
This game gave me cancer - a console peasant.

Dont buy this if you play call of duty, buy this if you like realism.
This game is intense AF, and not because you are in a bullet storm, because you really have to use your brain.
Every bullet counts.

It has no introduction or tutorial so it get hard to get started but once you manage to move arround you can enjoy the game.
No much to talk abaut, just an awsome game that could get even better in VR.

Receiver is a promising tech demo wrapped into a frustrating and poorly executed video game. The sales pitch is quick to warn upfront, almost apologetically, that the game is critically underdeveloped. While this may help temper user expectations, it doesn't excuse fundamental design flaws.

The game embraces a "monkeys and typewriters" philosophy of level design, placing the items and enemies in each playthrough entirely at random. In practice, this flavors the gameplay with a sort of anti-design. You will search chains of seemingly empty rooms only to learn that they were indeed empty. You will find the game's rare collectible items lying unprotected in the middle of your path. You will risk your life and dip into your scarce ammunition supply to defeat fierce groups of enemies, only to discover that they were guarding nothing. And when you die, the level is discarded - along with all of the effort you wasted exploring it. The game's antagonist shifts from the killer robots to the secret behind-the-scenes dice rolling machine. I've never felt burned out playing a video game so quickly.

If the authors had created and playtested a small set of predesigned enemy/item layouts rather than spend time developing the procedural generation system, the pacing and fun of the gameplay experience would improve tenfold. Players would face a consistent, fair set of challenges with steadily increasing difficulty and a way to mentally benchmark how their skills progress. Beating the game would become a well-defined and measurable goal instead of a tedious series of gambles. In fact, such a game could in all likelihood fly straight to the top of my favorites. Unfortunately, that's not the direction the developers chose.

If the simulation aspect interests you above all else, Receiver may be worth the buy. But judging it as a video game, the procedural generator drags the gameplay down so heavily that I can't recommend it.

In all seriousness, this is like a tech demo, but a nice way to kill a couple of hours. I'd suggest getting it through Overgrowth, rather than as a stand-alone purchase.

I'll give it some points as a mechanics and proof-of-concept piece, constructed in a short time. As a game? Not worth my time and effort.

Works horribly. It doesn't work with my keyboard, because you can't reach the advanced help menu or holster your gun to refill your magazine. I'm guessing it's either because of the game or steam itself being designed for American keyboards or just my OS (which I read on a steam discussion is also why I can't even open my key bindings menu to change anything). This means that you're stuck with a capped 1-3 less than half-full magazines, depending on the gun. And to top it all off in general it's janky and slows down everything else I try to do when I tab out

In conclusion, Don't buy if you have Linux or a non-American keyboard

I like this game. A lot. I like it a lot. It sort of serves as basic firearm safety training, while also giving you a fun time with a great artstyle and little details that are easy to miss but quite fun to notice. Most people just say that this game is just a little experiment for a game jam. And although it is an experiment and was in a seven-day fps jam, it feels like way more than that. This game is 5 dollars. Buy it.

this game feels like it's the product of some weird cult's beliefs. at the time of writing i still haven't beaten it, but i can do all the gun things from memory so that's nice. somehow this game is my aesthetic and it's also pretty fun even though i know nothing about guns

the game has this thing it does where if you walk a certain distance it'll halt a sec to load the new chunk of area, which is sort of annoying and it's gotten me killed once or twice, but otherwise it plays pretty solid

An immensely (sometimes unfairly) tough game, but the intimate interaction with your weaopn, as well as scavenging for items and tapes makes this a game I keep going back to.

I bought this almost 2 years ago, and I only finally beat it for the first time. Yeah, I'm bad at these games, but it's not about purely making it to the end. The journey is almost always a fun one, and that's what makes this a good game.

Reciever is a realistic FPS designed for players who want to get the most out of gun games and realism. It gives you the ability to really understand how guns work which games such as "Call Of Duty and "Counter Strike" don't provide to you.

The game has suspense so you do not know what is around the corner so you must make sure that your gun is fully loaded and ready to go.

Some things I would recommend added is machine guns and smgs of some kind instead of stinking to pistol classed weapons. I sometimes find the help A.I to be annoying because it is telling me to put the gun to automatic, etc. I highly recommend this game for people who like the way guns work or a looking for a gun game full of suspense.

Fun game.

Gets real boring when you realize it's the same old same old thing over and over and over again, though, and once you get all tapes, that's it, you're gonna be pretty done. Enemies are the same two over and over again. Flying sentry robots, and turrets.

Operating the handguns in Receiver is the only part of the game what will keep you engaged. If you don't have a weird hardon for guns then you're not gonna be into this game.

One thing I find weird - I've been shot a bunch by a turret before, then had time to duck into cover, only dying a couple seconds later. Just peculiar.

I still recommend it, because, hey, a weeks work resulted in this? Eh, fair enough. It is what it is.

How would you do if you had to control your weapon the same way as you do in real life? Would you be able to reload in time to shoot what is coming at you? Would you even be able to remember how to put the magazine back in without scattering precious unspent bullets all over the floor?

Excellent for shooter mechanics. Unparalleled, actually. Because of this game, I want all shooters to have a mod that brings this game's gun mechanics in.

Not much else to keep you playing though. Oh, there's a mod that adds some more guns. Needs multiplayer. And, you know, more stuff to do then the same ~ten "rooms" and two enemies.

To be honest, at the first look this game doesn`t attract you at all, you may even think that it`s easy, but when you get into it, when you play at least 30 minutes, you will see how difficult this game is. I like challenges. I recommend this.

Alright kiddies, lets talk about Receiver. This is a gun porn game. You get bullets, you get a gun. That's it. One hit, and you die. You've got two enemies, stationary turrets and flying tazers. You're dropped in this tower complex and have to find eleven cassettes to unleash your mind powers and finish the game.

The plot doesn't matter. This is a gun porn roguelite with gunporn and swat gameplay. Its simple and low overhead, but high concept. You're going to check corners, sprint erratically (none of that 360 no scope ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥t), and will start praying that the next set of rooms you encounter will have more bullets or clips. You can die from fall damage, you will risk falling to make a running leap for those bullets. You will crouch around corners to kill those turrets with three shots to their base. You will dip around corners to try and take out their sensors to save those precious rounds for later. Those bullets are all that stand between you and oblivion at the hands of the enemy. Your psychic powers will make them glow like manna from heaven. You will take every spare second to load every spare bullet into a clip. After every engagement, you will check your gun and your ammo and make sure you don't spend the last free moments of your miserable existence frantically trying to load bullets in a clip while a hovedrone closes in for the kill on your enormous head.

You are also going to fail, a lot. But many of you like that, and it can be very satisfying to clear half a level only to fail in a hail of gun fire or miss that ledge for those precious shiny bullets.


This game was developed for the 7 day FPS challenge and is the most streamlined experience for the FPS genre I have ever played. I have never beaten it, and I will never care. It is the thrill of dropping a hover drone from beyond its range, the joy in disabling a turret in a single shot, the chill of creeping into a new area and seeing the blue grid shine out from its sensors.

This is a gameplay experienced refined to its purity. I would enjoy an open world survival game based on these gunporn mechanics, if it played as smooth as this.
