Alright this gonna be a postive and negative review, just as a by the way, I put it in negative because people usually come to read about the game here first.
So to start it off Planetary Annihilation is a RTS game that implements multiple planet combat, or singular combat. In essence the idea was great and for me I personally think its tons of fun. This game however has a few things that are unfair and or cheap in a few ways that may ruin the expierence for others.
If you like Massive Army battles this is for you, you can eventually in a game have hundreds of units to thousands depending on how you play and how long the game goes.
RTS Elements ish? Now this could be a negative but its kind of half and half the game itself in the beginning has large amounts of RTS as the early game is very important and you need to do scouting, build and destroy enemy fabricators. Later in a match though it becomes who has the biggest army and such and while you can still flank and do all that it becomes less RTS and more who has more of what.... But majority wise there are lots of moments in which RTS can be used to describe this game.
Variety... In this game I can definatley say there is a lot of unit variety. Basically in the beginning you have Bot, vehicle, air, and navel to build. You can than spread to advanced Bot,Vehicle,Air and Naval which adds more units for you to build. You can than go orbital which in itself was a great addition to the game. There are also lots buildings in the game that do many game changing things, such as nukes, teleporters, anit-nukes etc etc. The amount of variety keeps the game interesting as building one thing can cause another thing to happen in some moments.
DESTRUCTION: In this game there a multitude of ways to completely destroy your enemy. You can kill them with overwhelming numbers, use tactics to snipe his commander, SMASH A PLANET ONTO YOUR ENEMY... And my favorite use a super space lazer and completly destroy an enemies planet!
Multi-Planet combat- I feel this game does a decent job when it comes to fighting on multiple planets, especially now that they addded the camera in that lets you swap views. At times later on the multi camera swap can save you as you swap between planets. Having multiple planets to fight on can make you anxious as you will have to fight enemies on all fronts and deal with lots of problems which keeps the game fun and interesting.
Core Concepts- Yeah ok so the game is unfinished but so far the concepts feel done to the point to where its fun and enjoyable. Off of what they promised when this was announced on kickstarter they have delivered on a lot of promises and its become quiet fun. Even though they haven't delivered on everything no developer is perfect so what can you expect.
Okay so thats a few postives and there are lots more I could go on and on and on but most people want to know a few problems with the game and I am going to rant a bit on the devs as well as they have ripped off quite a few kickstarter backers as well in the process.
Game is unbalanced as **** sometimes. There is literally no balance to units, and whilst you will understand why some units are weaker than others as they have different play styles and they do things better than some units, its just still to annoying at times. Near middle to end game the strengths that the weaker units get dissapear as both players eventually by the time have blobs of troops everywhere and whoever has the more unbalanced OP unit wins unless the other player is a tactical genious. (For those who want a example tanks and dox, dox provide good speed and raiding but that all ends once you put up turrets or have a battle with tanks and dox, the dox just become **** unless they are in a hoard of thousands)
Unit Pathing- Sometimes and this is a minor Con the units will not go around a obstacle and will try to go through it! For example I played a game today and had just built a fabber. I ordered the fabber to go build some metal. I find 40 seconds later that my fabber is stuck trying to go through a mini puddle on the ground. Now it may be my fault for not watching it closely but seriously they need to fix the pathing because some units just want to plow right through something instead of go around it.
Repetitive Early/Middle Game - Based upon what the meta is you will find yourself doing the same thing every single game during the early game phase. No joke just the same thing. This though is very minor as I personally think you won't notice as you will be paying more attention at finding your enemy and dealing with him. To some however this could be a major thing and could ruin it for you as because its the same early and middle game (sometimes) over and over and over again.
KickStarters- Okay now I speak for the kickstarters who supported this game through early development and this is a rant towards the devs. I was a alpha backer back when it was first released and I was so hyped for this game. I was promised a lot of things BUT I ONLY GOT ♥♥♥♥ING TWO. I was promised for $90 and I quote "Boosting mass is expensive! Join the battle as an alpha commander without the hassle of physical goods. All of the digital items from the $100 tier including an alpha key and and the alpha commander. Includes all previous tiers." AND "You get the limited edition "Progenitor" Commander."Early access to the Beta, a copy of the digital game soundtrack, and access to the private discussion community." I was promised all of this and a few more things (which I did not get, but won't get into that" And all I got was the art book and the backround. "But Veto that should be enough right?!" NO ITS NOT ENOUGH, especially when its a digital art book in which you can look up on the internet and download for FREE. I didn't get a exclusive commander, soundtrack or the alpha commander. All the digital stuff is stupid, you can get it on the internet for FREE, So its not exclusive at ALL. And I swear if they meant that the Invictus Commander was the Alpha than that is ♥♥♥♥ing ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Also I found out recently that one of the exclusive commanders we were supposed to recievce were only in THE ♥♥♥♥ING HARD COPY. Everyone that got the digital apperently will not get that commander. Its a load of complete **** its just so stupid. I feel as a kickstarter that I was cheated as I never got the majority of the things I was promised. Go read the kickstarter page if you think I am kidding. It just pisses me the ♥♥♥♥ off, and I have sent emails and gotton nothing back. At this point I care but I just give up, I feel cheated out of the exclusive items I was promised.
Optimization- Whewwww Okay so the Optimization in this game is way better than it was in alpha, back than it was for me because I had a ♥♥♥♥ computer back than nearly impossible for me to play. Now a days its way better but in order to expiereince the massive battles and all the fun juicy stuff withought lag, you need pc specs that goes way above the income for a common person. Fortunatley though its getting better every update but seriously I warn you now, if you have a bad computer wait for it to be more optimized.
Galactic War- I just don't even know what to say, what we were promised and what we got were two completely different things. The GW I feel was lazy, and I can't believe I am saying that as I love this company. And I am aware now they are working on it which is great I am very happy they are trying to fix it. But in its current state all you do is jump around the galaxy and you fight an enemy whenever you come across them and you collect tech and move on. Its really boring and I am sad as it was a massive selling point for a lot of people.
All in all this game is great and it has tons and tons of potential, I feel the devs are up to the challenge of making this a great game, AND AGAIN THIS IS A POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE REVIEW I SUPPORT AND LOVE THIS GAME!
