Release Build: 73737 with Offline Play



Online? Offline? However you want to play Planetary Annihilation, it’s your choice. Starting now, you can take your battles completely offline.

We’re happy to announce the release of the offline server. Offline server allows you to take over the galaxy in Galactic War without connecting to the Internet. You can also battle against your frenemies or the AI over a LAN.

You'll also see your massive armies moving around much better now. After almost two months, and a team focused on improving pathing, you should see major improvements on unit pathing, reliability and performance across the board. And as always, each build includes a host of bug fixes, performance improvements, and ever more polish.

Notes for offline play:
- We have had a few reports of people unable to launch offline server mode. If this happens to you, please go to settings and turn off Local Server. We are exploring the issue internally, and will be getting out a fix ASAP. Thanks for your patience.
- Local Server Settings: Auto will determine the best mode to use based on your system specs and requested game mode. On will always try and use local server for any supported game modes. Off will force your client to still connect to our servers for all game modes.

[Server] Turned off the idle timer for local games.

Detail Pathing Notes:

- Flow Field Integration has much improved CPU and Memory performance
Sectors are now independent from terrain meshes resulting in much smaller sectors.

- Better Path Planning
Smaller sectors make the higher level path graph more granular which results in more 'accurate' path planning. In the past units might go 'right' when they should have gone 'left' around a rock, this change fixes that.

- Dynamic Walls support
If you surround yourself using dynamic wall pieces the pathfinder behaves correctly.
We now rebuild the path graph and small / large pathable islands so 'pathability' queries are correct.

- Faster Nav startup time
Nav Voxels now use an inlining OctTree container which improves start up time as well as run time and memory usage.

A Note To Planetary Annihilation Fans About Our Next Game, Human Resources



Today, we busted out a new Kickstarter for a new strategy game called Human Resources. Built on the same engine that you helped us create for Planetary Annihilation, Human Resources expands on the scale and destruction you’ve come to love in exciting and different ways. We realize that some of you might take this news as concerning, so we wanted to come out and say this: work on Planetary Annihilation will not stop if Human Resources funds; both games will have a team dedicated to these separate projects.

In other words, things will stay the same. A Planetary Annihilation team will continue its amazing work on the game, and you’ll keep receiving new updates with new features, fixes, and mechanics. Meanwhile, a separate team will roll into pre-production on Human Resources.

What’s pre-production? It’s the first phase of game development. It’s the time where we sandbox and define features, game mechanics, and systems. Then, we begin to build any new technology that we need to support it. We’ll sketch out how we can accomplish our goals and when. It’s a pretty exciting phase where we create new worlds and possibilities.

Games are evolving. You don’t just “finish” them anymore. We see them as services, as active things that grow over a length of time. Planetary Annihilation’s vision has been achieved or else we wouldn’t have launched it, but that was just one journey. We embarked on a more adventurous one the second we updated it to 1.0.

Planetary Annihilation is massive. The armies - all robotic in nature - can be churned out at an amazing rate, growing into vast hordes; the maps are solar systems, complete with moons and planets, all gently spinning and circling their suns; and the devastation is on a scale that should be obvious from the title. It could have been great. A new, bigger Total Annihilation or Supreme Commander.Strategy games, or indeed any game with a substantial amount of depth and complexity, require a bit of education. It begins in the game: tutorials, detailed tooltips, campaigns - the things that teach you the basics.Planetary Annihilation skips the first part entirely, expecting players to dig their own way out of confusion. This makes one’s introduction to the game an unpleasant one, but when that first commander lands on its first world - it’s impressive.The commander makes planetfall, announcing its arrival with an imposing explosion. In a game that’s a race to the eponymous planetary annihilation, the lumbering commander is a liability, needing to be protected by an army. A swarm of enemies could take it out and spell the end of the game.Gargantuan armies can be constructed with surprising speed, and with new factories comes the ability to build fabrication units - more builders - with their much larger repertoire of blueprints.There’s a satisfying cadence to the unlocking of new toys.That first few games you are entertained with spectacular, planet-killing explosions and nuclear extinction. But eventually the unpleasant flavours are reached. Races can be fun. They can be intense, focused things, too. But they are also exhausting, and Planetary Annihilation never stops being a race. Everyone’s playing with the same tools, as well. There’s only one faction. The question of balance has always been important in the realm of the RTS, and Uber Entertainment’s answer seems to be: make everyone play the same way. The Galactic War mode - Planetary Annihilation’s single-player mode is exceedingly bland. There’s no story, no real context and the AI can be abysmal at times. There are rough edges everywhere, no matter what mode you play. Rapidly getting into jaw-droppingly huge wars spanning multiple worlds is brilliant - it really is. And there’s no other RTS that gives players so much destructive power. But the lack of tactical depth and focus on constantly rushing makes Planetary Annihilation tiring. Overall 6/10.

Did you know that Uber Entertainment has already announced yet another RTS game while not even completely finishing this game?

And you know what they'll do like they've done before with games like MNC and SMNC

Well look at this

SMNC was announced while MNC was going on and they never even fully finished updating MNC
(new maps, major class changes etc, we never got any of that)

PA was announced during SMNC (BEFORE THEY EVEN FULLY POLISHED THE GAME, ALSO THEY NEVER KEPT UP WITH THE FREE CLASS WEEKEND THING, THEY HAD IT GOING FOR MAYBE A FEW MONTHS OR SO AND THEN COMPLETELY STOPPED, AFTER THAT SMNC HAD NO MORE UPDATES AND THE COMMUNITY FOR THE GAME DIED BECAUSE UBER NEVER LISTENED TO THE COMMUNITY)

Now, yet another game is being announced from Uber Entertainment BEFORE THEY EVEN HAVE FINISHED THIS GAME ITSELF.

Here is a list of things that Uber has not even fully polished in PA

DO YOU THINK WHEN STARCRAFT 2 CAME OUT BLIZZARD IMMEDIATELY ANNOUNCED AN EXPANSION?

No, they ♥♥♥♥ing sat down and actually sat with their game throughout it's entire lifespan, they kept up with updates all the time and listened to the community.

This game didn't appeal to me initially in the campaign mode, but give it a chance and play some skirmishes against the AI then go multiplayer with friends and you'll then appreciate the pure awesomeness that is Planetary Annihiliation!

The best word to describe this game (can't avoid being being cliche here) is "Epic". Everything is epic, from the unit counts, to the scale and the way you can smash small planets into other planets.

Downside - less fun in the normal campaign, but going for straigth skirmishes and games with friends and this game truly shines.

I absolutely love this game. It's fun, addicting, and massive in scale. There are of course still bugs, but nothing that can't be fixed with future updates. Some of which include: Loss of connection, still kind of a choppy interface, and single player issues (No saving, ai problems). I believe that this game was ment for less of a single-player campaign, and more for multiplayer death matches. Overall, I think that it is great and I advise anyone to give it a try. 8/10

I waited for quite some time before playing this, having heard troubling reports duringe early access and at release.
Now that it looks as if not much more will be updated, I finally wanted to give it a try.

It took me only little time to turn away baffled.
This really is a joke and I think the most popular steam reviews are mild.

This is not a real game, it is a mere demo of what they might have been able to do if they would have finished it.
The lack of features, modes and the state of the so called single player content is so embarrassing, I feel stupid to have invested any money.

This is the most disappointing early access game I have played so far.

Do not spend any money on this no matter at what discount.

I bought this game for 60 dollars. Yes, 60 dollars. The price has dropped but back when I bought it, it was priced the same as a AAA game. It was/is unfinished and never will be finished, it is essentially a moneygrab. The game as a whole is okay, unfinished but okay, about 15 dollars okay, not 60 or even 30 dollars. I LOVE the basic idea of the game and the graphical theme but that does not make up for the unbalanced units, the price, or even the developer. I was going to put up with Planetary Annihilation until Uber Entertainment, right after the "release" of PA, decided that instead of finishing PA, they were going to put up ANOTHER game on KickStarter named "Human Resources." Overall, it's a nice game to look at but it is horribly balanced and overpriced. Avoid at all costs.

Firstly, understand that people are more likely to review a game if they percieve it negatively than positively.

It is true that PA has some issues (naval balance, etc). It was also released too early, in my opinion, since offline was not included among other reasons. However, offline mode is now a part of the game in the latest beta build, and should be added to the main build within the next 24 hours.

Overall, this is a seriously fun game that breaks new ground in the RTS genre. On these spherical maps, you can be attacked from any direction. On the flip side though, you can use this to your advantage to pull off sneak attacks from an unexpected vector. Orbital play and the ability to move between planets adds yet more depth and complexity.

I have heard other people complain about the controls, but for the most part I find them adequate. You can assign control groups to make selecting specific armies easier, as in most good RTS games. The current hotkey support is limited, but you can download the "Hotbuild2" mod using PA Mod Manager to assign hotkeys to build specific structures and units. Camera anchor points let you jump to saved locations at the press of a key.

Graphical performance was great for me on my Lenovo Y410p laptop with the GeForce 750M, 8GB of ram, and Core i7-4700MQ 2.4GHz processor. I rarely had any graphical glitches. If you are having performance trouble, the first thing you need to do is update your graphics drivers and make sure PA is using discrete as opposed to integrated graphics if applicable.

The AI features four difficulty levels, and is a competent opponent to fight if you aren't comfortable with PvP play.

Now, on to nitpicks. The biggest issue I see right now is naval balance. Although it has improved markedly, naval pathing is still a bit buggy. Naval units in general are too slow, and don't provide enough bang for their buck. An expensive ship can quickly be demolished by a handful of tanks. Targetting of ground units is also poor. Orbital units ought to be a bit more varried, and I wish there was a multi-unit interplanetary carrier. Teleporters are a bit too easy to set up. I'd rather have to land a small army with a transport to secure a beachhead, and then set up a teleporter for reinforcements. Overall, I think there need to be more and more specialized units.

Aside from all that, this game is ♥♥♥♥ing amazing. You can ♥♥♥♥ing crash moons into planets, blow planets up with death star lazers, fill the skies with nukes, send nukes between planets...you have to play it to get it.

A quick note on offline play, just released in the latest beta build. I tried it and it was completely stable. Uber recommends you don't play offline without 4 cores and 8GB of ram, but I was totally fine, at least in a 3 player game, with 2 cores (phyical cores, I don't know if logical cores count).

Seriously, buy this game!

I am a kickstarter backer. A big fan of TA and Supreme Commander (the first one + FA) With at least a thousand hours ingame. I and my all of my friends were absolutely thrilled for Planetary Annihilation. But this game seems not finished and rushed to completion. The EPIC Battles are nothing more but zerg rushes. This game is all about building small units fast. No Teching no real builup of economy no finesse in building your base. The Spawn System is totally useless because it can happen that you have a giant solar system (the planets are always small. A battleships normally curves with the planet...) and everybody just spawns on the same planet. I don't know...

I am disappointet bcs I was awaiting an awesome epic RTS but instead got a zerg simulator with a lot of casual gameplay.

Still playing SupCom: FA a lot.

It is not what I have expected as evolution of Total Annihilation. Gameplay is boring and somewhat frustrating. Planetary part is not exciting at all.

In overall this game feels like derivative strategy game.

Greetings Commander.
If you like real time strategy on EPIC scale,
If you want to build countless deadly units,
If you like to smash planets together,
If you are powerfull enough to wake up a death star,

PLAY THIS GAME !

Superb successor of the entire Total Annihlation / Supreme Commander series.
Easy to understand, hard to master.
There is never twice the same game unlike the boring Starcraft 2.

In multiplayer, play with your friends and share your armies if you feel like playing with 4 hands and 2 brains (or more).
and several brains won't be too much to handle the heavy multitasking requiered to overpower your enemies.

After 70+ Hours of offline/online gameplay , is this game recommended ? YES ! Go for it !

This game -- which is apparently out of beta and early access -- is unfinished.

- No tutorial, rare tooltips
ok for games such as "Team Fortress", where what you see is what you get, but NOT ok if your gameplay centers around "strategy" and fast key-combinations...

- Buggy sound
Chopped, clipped, and mostly non-existent. Even zooming in, I only got the occasional explosion sound every now-and-then...

- Menus and dialogs load like web-pages (!)

- No "standing orders" capability (or none that I can find, since there's NO TUTORIAL), so you spend most of your time going to all your factories to see what units are completed and just sitting around, to give them orders...

I'd expect this from an early release, but not from a company that's already diverting resources to its next game (which sadly got cancelled, since it looked amazing. but then again, this one looked amazing as well...)

it's ok but needs help from devteam. there are systemic design problems among them:

late game unassaultability of planets due to no real assault units, or one way teleporters

this means that any game with moderately skilled players turns into a stalemate where no one can kill each other besides with stand off weapons like the metal planet megalaser or a reorbited rock; still, if you don't have those two things you're boned. they will always have more units on planet than you will, and there is no way to effectively create a beachhead that won't be immediately slaughtered

no experimentals (regardless of what uber says, these are necessary; in particular: unit cannon, space fortress, one way superteleporter. this would improve the game immensely.)

orbital: kind of a cool idea, but effectively it's just airplanes with a slightly different look shooting at each other; when they said on the pitch that there would be orbital units i expected space warships, solar megalasers, etc etc. what we got were "boring space to ground weapon" "transport" and "dinky little space fighter" for civilizations at the end of the tech tree, what's capable of being built in orbit is PATHETIC. you can also not freemove in space, making it pretty bad for anything but "i'm going to put these units in orbit so i can't be assaulted teehee" actually making the lategame WORSE.

radar is bad; it's incredibly simplified from FA. there are no stealth units ? i mean, why? stealth units were cool as hell and had a very nice niche.

no offline mode (actually a straight lie)

no saving (why is it that saving is so ♥♥♥♥ing hard? modern programmers forget how to do it or something? surely it can't be damascus steel-tier difficult?)

units are still pretty boring too

honestly the first one is the biggest, and clearly a design flaw. no amount of tactics can win you a fight because the defender has an unestimable advantage because of local superior EVERY TIME. units are so easy to create that any buffoon can have enough radars and bombers to instantly end any planetary assault. you won't ever manage to create a gateway and bridge in enough units to win the fight, so why even bother fighting?

the game's OK, but honestly it still feels like alpha. not all of the features they even said were going to be in are in for ♥♥♥♥'s sake. several design problems STILL REMAIN, as pointed out by pretty much anyone with a clue for PA's entire development process, and yet it's "released" now. humbug.

When it works it's amazing, when it doesen't it's very annoying. The game is exellent, you feel pressured to win and when you do it is very satisfying. I have a very decent computer but the game still manages to lag ON THE MENU SCREEN and when trying to leave games most of the time the game will freeze then freeze my computer for up to a minute. In the end this game is worth it, when it's on sale. The game is NOT worth 30$ more like 15$ or 20$. When the games on sale get it, it's a fun game especially with friends.

Terrible game, seriously. Loading issues all the time.
Multiplayer is totally broken, can't even load any games, and Single-player is totally unbalanced. Totally useless.

If I could get a refund I would.

Utter piece of ♥♥♥♥. Fully recommend ANYTHING ELSE. Couldn't get the game to ever work, and when I asked over at Uber Entertainment's dedicated help website, they told me I was on my own. In addition, Uber spammed my email with requests for me to throw money at their new game Human Resources, which they promptly cancelled.

*sigh* This game is a great game. BUT here is where i rant. It is NOT ready to be realeased as a full complete game. To add insult to injury the game cost LESS than it did in early access. Oh here is the best part for the 50$ i spent on the game i could have had the digital deluxe version. To end this let me state that this is not worth buying and I have even been swindled out of my commanders that i should have gotten for buying it in alpha. ther rant over.

the game didn't feel finished, and after the first round, i felt i had seen all the game had to offer.
