Community Update - Godus Wars - February 3rd 2016

When is combat coming out?

Right now! With the release of Godus Wars, combat finally makes it’s full introduction into the Godus universe. Peter has always considered Godus being two games: one tranquil, peaceful and the other war-like with bloody battles taking place across the unique lands.

Have you abandoned Godus?!

Not at all! The release of Wars proves that we are still dedicated to Godus and everyone who owns or has previously purchased Godus, already has Godus Wars! Yes! Godus Wars is free for all previous Godus Kickstarter backers & owners.

How many people have been working on Godus and what are their roles?

11 people have worked on Godus Wars.

  • Peter and Konrad - Design
  • Dimitri, Gary, Ryan & Richard - Programming
  • Annah - Art
  • Ian - Audio
  • Anthony & Turner - Production
  • Martin - QA
  • Tony - GUI

What about the winner of Curiosity - Bryan Henderson?!

Bryan is featured in Godus Wars! He can be seen as an opposing deity on one of the continents.

Why Early Access?

We’re using Early Access to gather balancing feedback and gauge player reaction as we work towards a feature complete release.

Early Access will allow our users and loyal Kickstarter backers to try out and provide detailed feedback in order for us to deliver a more polished, optimised and balanced game upon release!

The release of Wars demonstrates that we are still dedicated to Godus.

Everyone who owns or has previously purchased Godus, already has Godus Wars! Yes! Godus Wars is free for all previous Godus Kickstarter backers & owners - It should auto-magically appear in your steam library, if it doesnt please let us know!

What's the plan with the Godus backer rewards at this point? When will people be receiving those?

We're continuing to work through the release of the Kickstarter backer rewards. The Art of Godus backer book was sent out to the appropriate tiers last year and the Early Access launch of Godus Wars brings with it a large collection of Godus design documents and Documentary has been completed.

What will you do with Godus Wars feedback?
We will be collecting all detailed and relevant feedback posted and while we won't be replying to all posts individually, we will be reading everything. Be sure to keep an eye on the Announcements board for Feedback updates!

What is happening to this page now that Godus Wars is out?

Now that Godus Wars & Godus are both available as one package, we will be closing the Godus Store page and removing the higher price from sale. The discussion boards will be left untouched.

About This Game

Have you ever wanted to play god? In GODUS, you can sculpt every inch of a beautiful world that you look down upon, where your population of Followers will settle and multiply. As you rule over your living, breathing society, a civilization will blossom across your land and offer you their belief. The more Followers that believe in you, the more powerful you will become. It is as simple to play as it is spectacular to behold. Come and lead an incredible journey - this delightful, charming world is waiting for you to make it your own.

GODUS is currently in active cross-platform development for Windows PC, Mac OS and mobile devices where the gameplay experience will evolve and expand over time as we periodically deliver updates for the game.

GODUS is brought to you by legendary designer and inventor of the god game genre, Peter Molyneux.

Key Beta Features

  • You can sculpt the entire world and make it truly unique to you
Sculpt every inch of an entirely moldable world in the most delightful way. Uncover a wealth of mysteries and surprises waiting to be unearthed beneath the landscape, and find others atop it.

  • Be adored and worshipped by tiny, devoted Followers. Watch them live, learn and love in a fully simulated world
Your ever-gracious population of reactive, living Followers will need you and worship you unconditionally. You’re the god and they’re your playthings.

  • Create villages and towns, grow their population and sculpt the very lands on which they live
Group your Followers together to create charming villages or thriving towns - specialize these into Building, Farming or Mining communities.

  • Lead Followers from your Homeworld and set sail on Voyages of Discovery to uncharted lands
Guide your Followers as they embark on regular Voyages to new and undiscovered lands that hold great rewards.

  • Nurture the growth of a civilization as it rises from the dawn of the primitive age and advances throughout the ages of humanity
Choose various types of stickers to unlock cards that level-up your population's society, technologies and faith. Cards go into your Timeline, which allows you to make advancements within an era and unlock new abilities.

  • Meet the Astari - a fun loving, party going little tribe who worship the pursuit of happiness
Your world is not empty. It’s also inhabited by the mischievous Astari, who will do everything they can to persuade your Followers to come and join them. As a god, you must use your powers to deal with these pesky people.

  • Cast miracles of both beauty and destruction - choose how to show your divine power, whether that be by growing forests or launching meteors
As development continues you will see more God Powers being added that will enhance gameplay, adding depth and variety to the whole GODUS experience.

I think I bought and played this when it first came out in Early Access like four years ago or something and then when I dusted it off and played it again today I realised it's basically the same game. They added a couple more confusing mechanics like voyages (More Coming Soon TM!) and changed some models around but that seems to be about it.
Also, ♥♥♥♥ mountains, they're the most tedious thing in the world to deal with, even if you upgrade your dealing-with-mountains power. Sheesh.

Buggy, broke, and a complete let down. I tried picking it back up again recently, thinking that now that there had been more time, maybe they would have fixed some things. I can barely even get through the tutorial now.

This game has been stuck in development hell for so long now that its hard to say whether the developer actually cared at all. This game had so much potential when it was released and I bought it instantly because I loved the art style and the way the game looked to play, but when I actually played the unfinished product it got stale after a few hours which was fine because it was still early access, but now almost 4 years later its still in early access and not much has changed at all. I cannot reccommend this game or its developer as now they started a spin off game for their still unfinished one which essencially mean this game has been scrapped all together which is just poor game developing.

4 reasons why this game is bad

1.cost a lot of $ for a game that looks like crash of clans.
2.has it for free on the app store and is fully updated.
3.the people who made this game stop working it and start working on a new one.
4. bad gameplay

now if you are looking for a game check out
1.tropico 4 and 5
2.cities skylines
3. civilization 5
4.total war rome 2 ,shogun 2 ,and empire

When i first bought this game, I had high expectations.
I mean, the guy who made it made black and white for christs sake.
B&W is one of the best god games evar.
So when i heard that peter molyneux was making another god game, i got excited, i went in thinking,"Oh sweet tapdancing christ finally! A good god game!"
I was wrong.
So very, very wrong.
Do not waste your money on this monstrosity.
Just don't.

I bought this game a very, VERY long time ago. I have played iteration after iteration, dealt with my saves being wiped over and over again, kept waiting and waiting for Molyneux to deliver the finished product. It never came. I bought this game remembering all the fun I'd had playing Black and White 2 at my friend's house, and all the mechanics sounded like I would soon be in for a great time. I wasn't. This game is THE argument against early access; Devs promise and promise but never deliver, leaving dedicated fans high and dry. This game is why I ALWAYS think twice about buying early access now.

Disappointing is a word that goes together with Molynuex quite easily these days, the gaming industries equivelent of the sham-wow guy, spruiking a product with little of no way to back up his enthusiastic rhetoric.

This game commits the cardinal sin of gaming. It's boring. it lacks engagement, pacing and playability.

I purchased this game looking for the next "Black & White" type god simulator. The initial earky access was very promising. However, month after month of lies and inaction from the developers caused this game to crash and burn.

As far as I'm concerned, the 22cans team and Peter Molyneux can go jump off a bridge before creating another crappy game funded by gamers through a kickstarter.

Developer made a clone of the game for free then tried to make ingame transactions. Most money grubbing, laziest, untrustworthy developer by far. To put this into perspective i've been through double fines space base DF-9 flop and the terrible neglect ace of spades suffered from lazy uninspired developers.

I purchased this game back in December 2013 and the development progress that I've seen has been minimal, at best. What are they doing over there at 22cans? At this point, Godus is just another greyed out title that's filling up my ever-expanding Library. I thought Guildford might have been able to produce something a lot better than this!

Game was great when they came out with it. Now it ♥♥♥♥ing sucks massive ghost horse ♥♥♥♥♥. Everything takes way too long to build, materials needed ramps up too much too fast, and they added all sorts of tiers of technology, but you can't really choose which one you want first/more, so it's way more work with still no customization. In addition to that, one building burning down means theyre probably all going to burn down for miles because your villagers are just the maximum amount of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ that they can be, and also cannot fight back against native tribes; just because you play as god doesnt mean you should have to do EVERY LITTLE THING for them-- in fact, it means they should be able to do the fighting yourself since youre helping them out so damn much. Guys, what the ♥♥♥♥. You came out with this game saying it would be great for juct casually playing it, letting off some steam (no pun intended), or just playing a game to sort of zone out and chill. NONE of those mechanics that made it that way in the first beta are still present. Revert, change, do what you gotts do, just fix it, because this ♥♥♥♥ SUCKS now. I'm going to go play the Sims. You've lost me to the Sims. Yeah. You suck. I'll try again in version 3 or something.

This game is incredibly boring, requiring you to spend most of your time waiting for your followers to generate belief so that you can use it to sculpt more land for them to expand to new locations and repeat the cycle anew. The feature to sculpt the land is also extremely finnicky, causing you to waste yout belief power accidentally doing something you didn't intend to do and now have to reverse.

No.

Very disappointed that I spent anything on this game in the first place.

About 20 years ago, when I was first learning the awesomeness of strategy games and computer games like Civ 1, Warcraft 1, etc--I remember playing a game on SNES called Populous and being completely taken in by it. I loved it and spent countless summer days and nights indoors tanking hours into it.

Fast forward to about 4 years ago when this game was announced and backed on Kickstarter--I couldn't wait to get my hands on a "god game" by one of the minds involved with Populous that I enjoyed so much as a kid. Everything the game promised sounded so cool, and there are not many "god game" type games anymore, so the wish for that nostalgia was overwhelming.

It fell short of any modest expectations I had, even for something in early access. The game is a clickfest, should have just been a trash mobile app from the start (don't worry they pursued that as well), is rather bland and now, most recently, a different version of the game has been announced called Godus Wars that has features that should have just been included in the original to begin with.

There are early access games out there that I have enjoyed supporting and there are those that I completely regret. This game is one of those that I completley regret.

If you read my rambling this far, do yourself a favor and just read the other reviews too. You don't have to take my word for it. Google it, read about it, check out how much time has passed where this game has gone completely nowhere.

Don't waste your time.

They took what started out as a magnificant game, and turned it into a Mobile Platformer. I have been done with this game for so long, but seeing Godus Wars was the last straw. They were making a PC game, not a PieCe of sh**. The only way for them to fix what they broke is to go back to where they started their mistakes. That was making the game 'Mobile friendly' and also adding ridiculous timers to everything you wanted to do.

They had their chance in days past, I am putting this review here for anyone that was expecting a beautiful game lik e Populous. This isn't that anymore, it's mobile-game-click-and-drag-and-wait.

This game is not worth buying. If you think this is gonna be a game where you build some kind of empire or civilization you're only half right. This game is a more complex version of Simon says. You can't decide where any of the buildings go and the people just walk around waiting for you to move something so they have more space to build stuff. I think the idea behind this game allows the player to see the world from the perspective of a god, but the only way that can work is if you have first hand control of everything that is going on and in this case you don't. I understand that this game isnt finished yet, but the way I see it, this game needs to be completly remade to work. I firmly do not recommend this game.

This game has had very little development, since I purchased it shortly after it's stint on Early Access. Honestly if they would let me return this thing I would. Do not buy this game. It promises much but delivers very little. I see there is a community update but that it is still on v 2.4. This game will never be finished, it will never be what they promise.

Do not buy this game.
