About This Game

The first graphic adventure by Tim Schafer in sixteen years, Broken Age began two years ago in a historic, record-breaking Kickstarter campaign. Now it's here in all its beautiful, 2D, hand-painted glory, with an original orchestral soundtrack and an all-star vocal cast.

Broken Age is a timeless coming-of-age story of barfing trees and talking spoons. Vella Tartine and Shay Volta are two teenagers in strangely similar situations, but radically different worlds. The player can freely switch between their stories, helping them take control of their own lives, and dealing with the unexpected adventures that follow.

They said adventure games were dead, but then Broken Age punched its hand out of the grave and grabbed you by the wrist and you screamed just like in the end of Carrie except what you screamed was "I love adventure games so much!" And sorry I spoiled the end of Carrie.

Act 1 is available now, and the act 2 conclusion will arrive as a free update early next year!

Nice game, or to say it better "nice half game". I still wonder how all the money went. As another user said "They asked for $400,000 to make a complete game. They got $3,336,371 instead and only managed to make HALF a game with it. " and he forgot the money the got from the steam sales.

Not worth the current price at all. Took me 2 hours to beat, the puzzles are non-existant and I only got half a game. When the other half comes out then maybe get it, but not right now.
Save your money and get something better.

There's a lesson here - don't buy an episodic game, as you can't rely on the developers finishing it even though you invested time in playing the first part! Terrible way to treat your customers!

I really would like to recommend this beautiful marvel, but there are so many problems attached to it.
Imagine the Mona Lisa but with only one half of the smile and everything else missing. There is just a sticky note saying "coming soon". You can clearly see, this note has dust on it.

Get this image? That's Broken Age for you. And "Broken" could not be more fitting.

[this review may change if episode 2 comes out, but I do not expect this to happen in 2015]

This is a great game, engrossing storyline that pulls you in and makes you want to keep going. Only downside is waiting for act 2 to be released but I think it is definitly worth the wait! Money well spent in my opinion.

Really liked this game, played it with my girlfriend she liked it too. It's fun and interesting and the looks of the game is beautiful.

I recommend this game who want too play a relaxed and beautiful puzzle game and share this with somone and solve the clues together.

But it's pretty expensive for 4 hours of gameplay, and, part 1.

Beautiful game. Funny. Play this game not just for the puzzles but for the wonderful jokes. I adore the style of a kiddish appearing but not in reality world. Tim Schaffer writes myth like stories and though the game appears playful and silly there are deeper concepts going on. Hurry up Act 2

It is enjoyable if short game. I would suggest only picking it up on one of the steam sales though. I just wish part two was out already.

I enjoyed this game so so much. It's honestly beautiful. But, for the love of god, wait for the second episode. The first half is to short to be priced at $25.

DO NOT BUY. The art style, characters, voice acting, quality sound production, and story are very enticing... But what we have as a result of a $4,000,000+ budget is definitely not a "classic point-and-click adventure game". Most of the puzzles essentially solve themselves, the entire "adventure" is incredibly linear (read: no exploration), and the second half of the game is STILL missing almost a year later. What you'll get for this ridiculous price is at MOST a 5-hour cartoon. This does not measure up to Double Fine's or Tim Schafer's standard. I repeat, DO NOT BUY.

As much as I hate doing this, I have to. This game is fun, beautiful, and everything is the best that it can be. I personally thought I got my moneys worth.

Until about 5 days later.

I finished the game one and a half times in 5 hours. I've also waited a year for part two. Either they really want to correct what they did wrong, and are making it longer and harder, they stopped working on it, or they aren't putting the effort it deserves into it. So I although I say it's not worth it, I still think it would be worth about $5. I just dont think $25 is enough for a short, easy, and half a game. I still like the game, though. I love the art and story(s) the most.

It's only half-done and the development has been horribly mismanaged. If the second half comes out and is as good as the first, I'll change this to a Yes. Until then, I suggest you take your money elsewhere.

Awesome game, hope Act 2 doesn't take too log, but I am not as displeased as these others. It's rather nice and intuitive compared to some older adventure games, but still captures the immersion as well as the enjoyable puzzling, maybe even better.

After completing Act 1.

This game is good. Nothing groundbreaking, nothing incredibly innovative (except for the fact that it started out a kickstarter gaming boom, but that's another story).
This game is a very solid experience for adventure-type-game lovers all over. You follow two separate storylines of a yound girl and a boy set in completely different environments trying to find solutions for the problems that arise. The gameplay part of it seems incredibly basic, you won't be wondering around much trying to figure out what to do. Most of the time spent in the game is listening to well written dialogue and experiencing neatly animated cut-scenes.
Characters, story and dialogue is a strong part of the game. You will most definitely enjoy witty humour of wordplay and voice-acting. The animation style is quite unique and was very much to my liking, easy on eyes, weird enough, pretty enough.

Though I think the game is a bit on a short side (even considering it is supposed to come out in 2 parts). 4-5 hours for 1half - that's ~10 for the whole game. Also I don't like it being episodic and having to wait to leard what happens next. The game is completely playable as it is though and does have an ending.

Overall I am very glad that I've kickstarted this and I am waiting for act2 soon! =)
