I wanted to like this game, I really did. But oh god, it's so repetitive.

You'll just run through short, narrow hallways and fight groups of 4-5 respawning enemies that all fight the same way. You'll also always fight the same way, because there's only one weapon type in the whole game.

The odd thing is how the tutorial is the best part of the game. It manages to present an interesting setting, a decent plot & characters and create illusion of freedom, with some big areas and the promise of a lot of new things to unlock. But sadly, those never come, and any motivation the characters had vanishes.

If you own this already, really I recommend playing the first 2-3 hours. If not, just avoid the whole game.

Interesting little gem from developer Spiders. Nothing too deep and some strange design choices are a few setbacks. But the game has enough charm with its setting and an interesting enough story to keep a player involved for its 15 hour campaign.

Surely an easily over-looked and/or underrated game. Mars: War Logs offers everything an open-world/RPG gamer can want in a game. From customizing clothing, weapons, and fighting style to dialog choices that effect your outcomes in the game. If I were to rank this game I would give it 4.5/5 stars, the .5 being for less open space exploring and more like the feeling of a series of hallways you must run through, but despite the maps everything else in the game picks up the slack. What sells me personally the most is this game offers force powers in a post-apocalyptic theme, I couldn't ask for more.

I played the game and had the problem a quest was broken. A companion quest. Anyone who played games like Mass Effect or Dragon Age knows companion quests are something you really want to do.
I posted on their forums about the broken quest and got a standard-reply like I should reinstall (or whatever it was). When I posted this is no help because I already did this before I posted I never got any other answer.
I haven't ever finished the game because I refused to abandon my companion quest. This really sucks. A simple "sorry, the quest is broken" or ANY answer related to my post would have been enough.
I will never buy any game from this company as they are not even helping out once THEIR game has bugged quests which even influences the story. The Mars: War Logs forums were quite dead at that moment so it was impossible to oversee my answer.

Mars, War Logs is a budget RPG. Has all the elements of an rpg (character development, central story with a hero protagonist, etc), except for the extremely linear level design and exploration. The world is divided into hubs, each with 3 or 4 linear maps with repetitive design and art - and this is the one and major drawback of the game.

Otherwise the story is decent, with few branching quests, but with a strong separation between following a tyrant or a peaceful path. The characters are also believable and have a fair developed background with a few options for romance.

Game runs well with no bugs to report. Graphics are average (think last gen console level) but the combat mechanics are solid and the gameplay is fluid.

I recommend the game for player looking for a ~12h RPG with no grand expectation. You will definitely derive enjoyment from the game.

I was really enjoying myself up until the story seemed to be picking up momentum only to ram straight into a rather pathetic hamfisted ending as soon as things were getting interesting. That said, until that disappointment it was a fun 'beat people to death with a stick' simulator.

Feels a bit old, but still ok to play if your expectations are not too high. Not really that open and quite linear. Sometimes the order of side quests matter (e.g. in the first map). I have encountered no crashes and it worked flawlessly under win 7.

Completed it, have to say i liked it, i dont mind the a little outdated Gaphics, the only thing i would have liked if id would have been more then 3 chapters, more variety on the cloths, and many little things.

Overall a good game with a good story, i really liked the setting!

Couldn't finish, gameplay and story just doesn't cut it. About 30 minutes in I realized the main character that you control, Roy Temperance, is voiced by the same actor that does Maxwell the Pig from the Geico commercials and that put a big damper on my connection with the character.

Just finished it in 12 hours. Wasn't terrible. Could have used a little more polish and length. Over all it was enjoyable for the few bucks I paid. Although for the equal amount of money Fall Out 3 has a ton more content [assuming both are on sale for $5].

So, simply for the fact that I paid a couple bucks for it, it plays exactly how a hame you'd spent less than $5 for. Despite the language and major sexual reference within the first 5 minutes, I'd say it's worth the pocket change.

I definitely recommend the game. I got it on sale for $5, and after 1.5 hours I already feel I got enough fun for the money—and the game has only just begun. So, I think even the $17 for the game is well worth the price.

If you go in with right expectatoions into this game, you can definitely enjoy it. It delivers just what a $17 game should deliver; don't compare it to those that go for $40-$60.

There's no jumping in the game and you do occasionally bump into an invisible wall. There are some really grotesque looking people and I often want to find out what had happened to them, but alas, they just ignore you and there's no option to talk to them. Some characters stand in your way, [intentionally?] blocking your way. They're like furniture—no interaction with you at all—which feels lazy and lame on the part of developers.

What irks me the most is the UI. Every time you pick up loot or ransack a corpse, you get a popup message telling you what you found, and you gotta click "OK" to close it. This really should've been a brief message at the bottom instead. Quests, on the other hand, flash by so quickly, you don't get a chance to read what you have to do, so sometimes you gotta navigate into your quest journal to read them.

If you don't have your weapon out, SHIFT makes you sprint. If you do, SHIFT makes you roll. The problem is if you have to go up/down a cliff or ladder, you have to position yourself in front of it and click your mouse. The area where that click actually makes you climb is small, so you often miss it, and get your weapon out instead. There's no button to hide it, so then you just wait for it to be put away just so you could sprint again. Annoying.

Voice acting is mediocre in places, but the dialog is very well written.

The setting, story, and writing shine. I'm enjoying them so far. Combat system seems good too. It isn't a "click-until-they-die" stupidity, like in Skyrim. If you hit your enemy with the same thing repeatedly, they'll start blocking it. Dogs can't be damaged in the head, so you gotta try to get them from the back. There are stealth combat attacks, blinding sand throws, guns (though you don't aim to shoot them), and seems like a bunch of other "magic"-like attacks that you unlock later on. So I'm enjoying the combat.

A few other reviewers dissed the graphics, but they look fine to me. You get an occasional model that seems to bob a bit too much when idly chatting, but that's minor.

In summation, this isn't a $50 top-shelf title; don't go into this game expecting it to compare to such games. It's a $17 game and it's worth every penny. Voice acting and user interface are the the weak points, graphics are fine, and combat, setting, and writing are the strong points.

I definitely recommend this.

O estilo lembra Dragon Age, mas com um sistema de combate confuso e desequilibrado. A trama e' previsivel e cheia de furos. Me decepcionou.

Probably one of the most frustrating yet uninteresting combat systems I've encountered. Granted, I'm only a couple hours into the game but it's already lost me. Your companions are next to useless, walking pylons at best, and you spend the majority of most battles leaping around the battlefield or blocking a flurry of blows in order not to get stunlocked. I don't mind a challenge, Darksouls/Demonsouls are difficult games but there you at least feel like you lost a fair fight. This game is just tedious.

I'm going to refrain from commenting on the story, haven't experienced enough to give it a fair shake. However, so far the majority of the quests have been fairly bland in nature (talk to person A or find enough of part B) which are usually solved by walking around talking/clicking on everything until it says you did what you're supposed to. A few of the quests appear to have some branching paths, which I regard as a good effort, but ultimately aren't really used that effectively and end up being fairly bland.

I might go back and give it another shot at some point, but at the moment I'm glad I only spend $5 on this.

A lot of potential

Even though the combat can get repetitive if you don't change your approach and the crafting system is lacking the proper menu's mechanics the game feels like a real adventure on the desolate, burnt and cyberpunkish set up in Mars: Wars Logs.

The story may not be the best around but it fills perferctly the game and the voice acting is superb in many aspects. The sound score is not any bad either.

I guess the outcome remains the same whatever options and choices you make, but still the story unfolds around you.
