It's a very short game but has a very interesting story. Finally finished the playthrough even though i bought the game yesterday would definitely recommend getting this game during a sale too short tbh. Though it is very fun and if you are looking for a game to play that could keep you occupied until the technomancer comes out then get it. one thing i didnt like about the game is that once you leave an area to go to another you can't go back.

Overview: Third Person RPG

The Good:

+ 3 skill trees allowing you to specialize in combat, range, stealth, abilities etc. You also get character traits for further customization.

+ Find items scattered around the world or loot it off fallen enemies to craft stronger weapons and armor.

+ The game has plenty of side quests, many side quests have different ways of solving them. Depending on the dialogue options you choose, and how you resolve certain situations
more side quests could become available later on.

+ Similar to Witcher 2, the game forces you to make a choice in the main story which changes the story and how things play out.

+ Interesting story and setting

The Average:

The combat starts out really bad but gets better slowly as you level up and improve your skills. You have one button for attack, dodge, block and break enemy guard. Attacking enemies never really feels satisfying and most combat situations revolve around you hitting an enemy once or twice and then rolling out of the way over and over again until you get a clear shot to attack. The worst part however is the camera, as you are fighting one enemy, two or three other enemies will attack you off screen. Get in too close to a wall and it becomes even harder to locate enemies. You can also 'lock-on' to an enemy causing the camera to focus in on them which sometimes actually makes things worse. It isn't until you really start to invest a lot of skill points into your character that combat becomes more playable.

The game features a basic morality system that grants you some extra character abilities depending if you are good or bad. This is determined whether you let enemies live or die after a fight. It doesn't change a whole lot and other than a few character abilities, morality has very little impact on gameplay, dialogue or story.

The Bad:

- The voice acting and dialogue are bad. Every line is read without emotion or feeling. It feels like they handed the voice actors a script and said 'read this' and called it a day.

- The graphics are bland and boring. Red and brown seem to be the primary colors and the textures even set to high look terrible. The overall presentation and UI all feel substandard.

Conclusion:

A game that has everything you want in an RPG but lacks a lot of polish in almost all areas of gameplay. I certainly had fun with this game, enough to complete it twice and collect all the achievements but don't go into this game with high expectations.

The story is neat but the combat is painfully awful and there is too much backtracking, you have to scavange the same places so many times it is sickening!

For a 15 dollar game, this seems about right. It's not AAA material, but it tells its story. There are plenty of technical issues to take wih the game, but again, for a budget game, you get what you pay for.

The writing is heavily thematic and sometimes a little predictable. In a way, this game reminds me of a grittier, darker, knights of the old republic, but don't expect KotOR's polish. The main draw here is the world building and story. You have to look past the imperfections of the game to appreciate this, but it's definetly there.

For the money, I'd absolutely recommend it, and I am looking forward to The Technomancer.

This game looks very average and linear, with poor voice acting and character actions, but it is made with care and love. That's what makes it playable and enjoyable.

Classic Spiders RPG:
nice story, the gameplay isn't really polished as always, but it's funny enough.
It isn't a AAA production, so it would be stupid to complain about poor graphics or level design, even if it's a low budget game, I'd say it's totally worth it if you like simple RPGs with a nice story

you know what... not bad, not great or even amazing, just not bad

The story at times is hard to understand or follow
The combat is fun more so after the first part (kinda like Mad Max + Dragon age 2)
The dialogue is bad like a corny Sci-Fi movie (French Publisher so maybe thats why the english is bad?)
and...RPG is a strech its got upgrades but it's supper linear...

Plus it was released in 2013 but it feels like it was made in 2006
on a sale I would say pick it up and try it :)

A good scifi RPG for the (heavily discounted now) price and size.
Seen far worse games than this get better reviews from established gaming sites
Fair graphics, nice story, nice gameplay
I would have prefered it more open world but I guess this has to do with budget restrictions
I would give it a 7-7.5

When I first started this game I said to myself "Blah, another mediocre game, this is boring", but strangely I found myself addicted after about an hour or two hours of playing it. To be completely honest I knew I'd end up liking it anyways simply because it's a sci-fi action-rpg, taking place on Mars in the future in some Cyberpunk-ish, Steampunk-like setting. The story is okay I guess, nothing special and super crazy like something you would expect from a game like Mass Effect, but it's... "okay". I liked it.

What REALLY drew me in was the fact I could invest skill points into my character, the ability to also not only wear different armor and weapons but also modify them to suit your playstyle, which you need to find parts to do so. You can also romance two women in the game, I won't spoil that though if you plan on playing it. The combat is kinda' hard at first since you seem to have to dodge and roll around a lot to avoid enemy attacks, you can't just go in there and start button mashing because you'll get owned in probably less than a minute. Should've called this Mars: Enemy Dodging Simulator 2013. Also your partner barely helps you, if anything he's only useful if you plan on using him as a way to distract the enemy (at least I think so). The game is also extremely short, yes.... I beat this game in 16 hours, that also includes most of the sidequests, if not all of them. Crazy right?

But anyways, there is a sequel (or prequel) coming out called "The Technomancer", and it looks pretty damn good. As for this game, if you plan on playing it just play it without any high expectations whatsoever, understand this is a.... I guess you could say "Budget" game.

Alright, this is a short game, so it's up to you and what you feel like playing. However, there's high replayability since there are several paths to follow that lead to different endings (altough for that purpose, I highly recommend that you save prior to key conversations, as they do matter a lot in this game and the outcome).

The thing is... the combat sucks. Like, big time. But if you get hooked by the story, it's bearable and you can get used to it.

The game's got pretty interesting things actually, it does a good job at imagining a distopian futuristic Mars, and lets you build your hero/antihero with an fair enough skilltree. Not to mention that you can romance someone in it, as long as you're not a ♥♥♥♥ at a specific point in the story.

All in all, yes I do recommend it BUT keep in mind that the combat is real crap and that the game's a bit rough around the edges. AND buy on sale or bundled only.

I recomend this if you can get it on the cheap and are into rpgs/storys that are different.

The game looks and feels really low budget or dated now, has lots of empty space and most NPC's are just set dressing. That being said I played it all the way through to see what they wanted to do with the story and world they were creating.

I enjoyed it

Mars: War Logs is a game of potential. The universe created by Spiders is certainly curious but is often let down by the badly written dialogue and pacing of the story, or the sometimes horrendous voice overs.

Graphically it is an appealing game and the environments and music is all there in a solid fashion. The combat is largely enjoyable and has a nice punch behind it, the skill system and crafting mechanics are nice but the lack of variety within loot is a letdown. In the end, Mars: War Logs is an above average game that will certainly be an enjoyable experience for those looking for a nice little third person RPG, and are willing to forgive it for its diamond in the rough state.

This is not the best RPG out there, but I would be lying if I said it is not fun as hell. Combat is smooth, landscapes are gorgeous, and the story isn't too bad either. I'm aware when this game came out it was pretty bad, but they did an excellent job at fixing what needed to be fixed. So many of the negative comments don't apply anymore. However, many have said the combat and crafting system is a rip off from The Witcher 2. I will have to say false. Similar? Without a doubt, but not a rip off. This game takes it much more slow, and the option to use the techromancer abilities makes it its own. And a crafting system is a crafting system. Not much you can do there. Now, my impressions: I love this game. I was constantly entertained from start to finish. I love action RPGs and this game delivered. But not only that, the landscapes were amazing. The towns and such were nice, but you got tired of looking at them after a bit, but when you stare off into the distance, beyond the towns, you saw beauty. They made a boring red planet into something else. If you enjoy a not so hardcore RPG then by all means pick this game up. But maybe wait until a sale. I love the game, but $15 is still a tad high in my opinion, but nonetheless I think this game should be on any RPG lovers game library.
