Even though the "battle for a shard" is a lot of fun, it gets boring and repetitive after a while. The campaign is a sequence of maps (or shards) you have to win in order to meet all other masters. But the game is fun as long as the player wants to play it and can be recommended to anybody who likes games similar to HoM&M.

-Bought this when feeling nostalgic about Master of Magic / HoMM. I also like CiV and slower, turn-based games sometimes.
-More complex building options than HoMM and in some aspects MoM.. More specifically the City Build menu can be overwhelming to look at for the first time. I particularly enjoyed this aspect of the game - its complexity left me wanting more and more so I would restart a game after losing to tweak the build and see what works best.
-The heroes can be viewed as simple/straightforward - 4 classes. Each time you level you put one point into one skill (out of three offerred).
-Spells are just similar to Heroes of Might & Magic. Build the 4th tower to get the best spells.. except there is a different building for each magic type - there are 6 magic types (I think?) at least as far as buildings / main spells go.
-More complex gameplay & darker theme than Heroes of Might & Magic
-Can't wait to play multiplayer!

Great game. Had an issue with the game, actually an issue with the DLC, e-mailed support..... ONE WEEK later, no reply.

So now I have this game I paid for that doesn't work.

Won't buy anything from these people again.

I wanted to love Eador, but after a couple of painful hours that felt like a total slog, I just had to give up trying. There are a lot of complex systems that the developers have obiovusly spent a lot of time thinking about, and I commend them for that... I can see what their vision was. Unfortunately the core of the gameplay - the battle system - is pedestrain to the point of being drab and boring, and that drags everything else down. If a patch came out to make combat more dynamic and strategic then I'd be all in for re-trying Eador, but until that happens I can't give the game a thumbs up.

The idea is interesting but the implementation is lacking. Highly random starting positions can vary the difficulty from "cakewalk" to "impossible," and strategy games should be decided more by your decisions than by randomness. Hero units drive the game, so if your starting area is good, you steamroll the map; if not, you may be able to grind through, provided the enemy hero did not get a steamroll start that lets it one-shot your troops and two-shot your hero. "First OP hero wins" is not an interesting strategy dynamic.

Before each fight, the game evaluates your forces versus your enemies and gives you a difficulty estimate from "no casualties" to "no chance." Whatever math is being done does not compare the units' strengths and weaknesses. You will regularly find impossible "easy" fights and "run away!" fights you can win without taking damage. Between this and the highly random elements, you can see why so many places on the forums advocate save scumming.

I encountered fewer crash bugs than other reviewers did.

I would love to review this game and enjoy what looks to be very attractive and fun game play, However the game crashs every 5-15 mins. Its not my PC since i run way above the recomended specs. Its not just me since i have seen posts of other players have the same issue. Oh well 15 bucks down the drain.

A game that is one of the best in its genre.

Difficult battles (fun!) with lots of intricacies (health, stamina, morale, magic, fear....)
Excellent building choices.
Heroes that play very differently.
A game that requires a lot of thought....a lot of thought. It can kick your *** real hard.

Campaign is a bit dull, but the custom games are very brilliant fun to play.

A really great game.

Linux logo is just for show. All they did is ship Wine with this, apparently without bothering to test it. The wrapper does allow the launching of the game but the graphics are garbled and the game is unplayable. This problem seems to appear mostly on nVidia binary drivers. There are a number of discussion threads about the problem here on Steam and on their own forums but as of yet the developers haven't issued any statements about this. Apparently they suck.

Wine wrapper IS NOT a Linux port. There should be a warning about this on the store page.

As for the game itself. I don't have a clue. I can't play it. If a miracle happens and it becomes playable at some point I might have to review the game again.

Broken to all hell on Linux. Doesn't launch on most platforms, huge graphical problems with nvidia drivers, and when it does start by navigating to and directly launching the game, it's so hard to see anything that it is unplayable.

Needs to be fixed.

Rumors of a linux version is vastly over rated. It launches in a wine wrapper with graphical bugs that makes the game unplayable.

A very clever 4X that follows in the footsteps of King's Quest and Heroes of Might and Magic, but adds plenty of its own to the genre. The scale of the game is horrifying, it's taken me several days to beat my first randomly generated scenario out of what promises to be a 50-100 scenario long campaign.

There's a huge amount of content and plenty to do every turn, but it's presented in an efficient way and turns go quickly.

The game isn't exactly unpolished, but it has some splinters that could be sanded down. Expect a harmless crash every 24 hours or so. There's one bug that can hit fairly often and prevents kills from registering, especially on retaliatory hits and especially on slower combat speeds. It can be resolved without incident by autoresolving at the end of combat and almost always works in the player's favour, blocking its AI reenforcements and almost never occurs on the highest combat speed, which I would recommend using either way, because the second slowest is much too slow. There are other cases in the game where the settings are not as delicate as they perhaps aught to be.

The game seems to be a direct remake of Eador: Genesis. I prefer this version, but there's not a lot between them.

I really enjoy it as a strategy game. Many choices, like which shards you go after, greatly affect how things go for you. I played the other Eador game and loved it, this one seems better but the different controls took me a bit to get used to. The AI can be very predictable, this is good at times but also can be very bad when things are going against you because there is little chance to fool it or evade it, it pretty much hits you as hard as it can at all times so most should start on the easiest setting. Even if not the greatest it's a steal for the price.

I enjoyed this game for around a week or two before I just didn't have time for it. I think, if I played Eador when I was younger, I would have had 100s of hours spent playing it. It seems like the kind of single-player game that manages to reward you for putting a lot of time into it, which is rare.

Highly Recommended by me if you like Fantasy style Civ games, It plays similar to my favorite mod of all time; RiFe for Civ 4 - mixed with turn based Might and Magic type stuff. The elements of being able to Explore every province is pretty darn fun, and allows for alot of time to sink into a map. But by far the biggest pull for me in the game is the campaign; Imagine starting a game of Civ with a tech cap on most buildings/units. Choosing which "shards" to attack allows you to get new bonuses and slowly unlock everything. It's pretty awesome to have that sort of Metagame aspect to it. seeing as i can easily run through a million and and a half games of Civ that extra layer of progression was really fun to me. If you've got time and enjoy that type of game i'd recommend it to anyone. it's a grade A droning game.

It's more a game of unlocking and and collecting items to upgrade your hero/buff your armies that civilization upgrading, but it works well i feel. and the different spells and unit types definitly give you the ability to mix it up a bit and find whatever is fun for you. That's the best part about this game is it tends to just let you go whatever path you want (beacuse most all paths will eventually let you win lol)

But, Pick it up if it's on sale, and Take care all!
