Update Notes — March 14th

14 Marts 2014

Hi everyone,

Initially we wanted to tie the most wanted fixes together with the free content update. But as the latter obviously took way too long to finish, we decided to split those apart.

Update 1.3.0.

Improvements:

- ‘Hotseat’ mode for strategic map (shards).

- Optimization of AI turn's calculation. This should fix most crashes in the late game, at big shards, with having many heroes etc.

- Spanish localization.

- Sound updates for most units (53 out of 71), others will be updated in the future patches.

- Additional damage bonuses for flanking attacks and attacks from behind in tactical battles.

- Units can now be turned in any direction in tactical battles.

- Savegame files are now 10 times smaller.

- Borders of domains for every player on the strategic map (shard).

- Customization of the difficulty level for custom game on a shard (like starting gold, gems, population etc.).

- Ranged attack display for some units (like devil or catapult).

- Quick access menu.

- Some updates for interface and graphic assets.

Fixed:

- An unnecessary scrollbar on the Statistics screen.

- Crystal will now give heroes various quests depending on the chosen difficulty, not only the task for killing bowmen.

- Infamous 'Swiftness' skill bug that gave the AI an ability to attack player's units more than once per turn in tactical battles using units like harpies and centaurs.

- Infamous 'Polymorph' spell bug that caused inaccessibility of some hexes in tactical battles.

- Mismatch between colors for coat of arms in the Profile screen.

- Many other fixes.

Hello,

This is, in my opinion, a triple A title. That having been said, I would also like to point out that many triple A titles are more often then not unpolished and lacking on release, but patched at some point. As others have said, the game plays somewhat like Civilization/Heroes of Might and Magic. The developers don't seem to be in full swing patch-mode anymore either, which is really sad because it needs it.

One of the things I enjoyed the most was the exploration aspect of the game. Your heroes explore each province to provide more land for the province's population to settle comfortably. In the process you come across bandits, monsters, and unique shops. Sadly, for each positive aspect of the game, it tends to turn around on itself and bite it's own rear end. In this example , the game all but forces to you play with a "rush/zerg" mentality. Getting your hero(es) to the enemies stronghold as fast as possible, because nothing transfers over to the next map, and building up your empire on the shard is more or less wasted time. Couple that with the fact that the longer you play, the more the AI seems to advance in suspect manner (I've more then one grumbled the word "Cheater" at the computer screen).

The game is very good, I played it for a long time and still visit it when the mood hits. Despite it's shortcomings, I would recommend it if you like HoMM/Civ/Fallen Enchantress/ect.

Cheers,
Michael

This game is awesome. It's like everything I ever wanted in HOMM but without the crap company behind it. There are a few bugs, sure, but the devs are great on fixing stuff and have personally fixed save files for some community members. Highly recommend.

Not what I expected. This game makes you conquer a small map, which ranges from hard to impossible depending on the difficulty level you pick, and then start over again dozens of times without much to show for each conquest. Now the game is pretty well made and polished, so it is fun if you're not playing on the higher difficulty levels while you are conquering, but the fact that you have to start over every time kills it for me.

I like playing on the higher difficulties, so now I just figured out a strategy which lets me win and this takes out some of the joy out of it as well - I am forced to use the same strategy over and over, otherwise I will lose. Got old really quick.

Good idea of combining province approach of Total War and Dominions with turn-based battles a-la Heroes of Might and Magic. All wrapped up in meta-gaming - each new map adds new features. Not totally for me, as it have too much content on each map, taunting my completionism. Still recommend it for 4x-lovers.

Remake of Eador: Genesis.

Game was heavy broken on launch, but right now it's quite working. Some issues remained, but nothing that could prevent proper gaming.

It takes a good 2-10 hours to get into this game, but once you do, it is a great deal of fun and the main campaign is good for at least 150 hours. The play feels like a better-balanced Master of Magic where the strategic (map) play is much smoother (one main city to upgrade, better resourcing) while the tatical (battle) play reminds me of Kings Bounty, but you don't cycle through troops as fast and they end up meaning more to you.

Over all, if you like 4X or strategy games with turn-based combat, this is the best game of 2012 and 2013 in my opinion.
