All the 90's references can't make up for Knights of Pen and Paper's grinding, mobile roots.

Pros: Graphics, Sounds, Controls
Cons: Gameplay, Story, Bugs

For fans of pixel graphics, Knights of Pen and Paper will not disappoint, although it may be a waste of most computers' potential. The sounds and music fit well, although they may begin to grate after a few hours. Control with the mouse and the smallish menus are perfect.

Unfortunately, the grindy, repetitive gameplay is where Knights of Pen and Paper shows its mobile roots. The story isn't terrible, but lacks the great moments often had whilst playing true tabletop RPGs. For achievement hounds, the Deluxe Edition is a must, as it provides a slightly better grinding area. A number of achievement bugs ensure that the grind lasts many hours longer than it should.

Knights of Pen and Paper is a throwback game in many ways, but a number of flaws mar it severly.

5/10

If you are a linux user beware of the +1 edition. Save your money because the extra content does not work and so far the developers have not even posted a reply on the forums stating they are aware of the problem or care. Works well on my Windows machine, all extra content loaded with no fuss, and is a fun little game, but since I run both systems, the best I will give it is 0/10 for lack of support.

Knights of Pen and Paper +1 Edition is a decently entertaining turn-based RPG, which likely fares much better on it's original mobile Platform. As it is, the repetetive nature of combat and grinding make the game somewhat tedious during longer sittings on PC, thus making it all too easy to lose interest in the game sooner than it likely deserves.

Super cool little boardgame style roleplaying video game. The artwork is super cool with the pixels and little animations with the characters that sometimes move. It gets to be pretty challenging around level 40 or whenever you get to "Steam" island. Its like, everything is a reference and some I don't recognize but the ones that I do give me a chuckle. I'd reccomend this game to anyone who wants it for their phone. Yes, this is a game for your phone, and the touch screen controls are actually pretty good.

Knights of Pen and Paper is a tongue-in-cheek look at table top RPGs. The characters are silly, the "microtransactions" even sillier, and the references to other video games and people in the industry is, quite frankly, horrible (but in a silly way).

The entire game has your characters sitting at a table in various places such as a village, a cave, an arcade, and so on, while a DM (Dungeon Master, for those of you who are unfamiliar with pen and paper RPG terminology) guides them through their quests.

The graphics are simple, but fit well with the game. The music is repetitive, but catchy. And there's loads of replay value.

I definitely recommend getting this game.

I love this game. Everything is turn based, letting you go afk without worries. It's like Dragon Warrior on NES and the old Bard's Tale games. A game about playing RPGs in the classic tabletop manner. An homage and satire of it.

Lots of fun, easy to sit down and play during a coffee break. An interesting take on the turn based RPG with some good humor sprinkled throughout.

This game is a wonderful mini-masterpiece that makes you feel as if you're playing a table-top game without the actual table or friends. You can experience D&D-style gameplay without having to break out dice, charts, pencils, and painted figures, and it really makes it much easier to immerse yourself into the game. With the deluxe edition, you get SO many awesome new items and references to play with, including furniture such as THE TARDIS from Doctor Who, 800 gold coins and starting buff items, and even a new player character that makes a powerful magic user! I'd honestly buy the game just for that.

So many different players-class combinations to choose from that could either make the game difficult or easy, and it's so much fun to try different combos!
I highly recommend this game to anyone who likes RPG games, humor, and gaming/television references!

Great indie game for the dungeon and dragons/rpg/indie enthusiasts. This game time after time, quest after quest, not only pokes fun at itself, but of all games of its type; and games in general! This game can make you laugh and entirely too excited at the same time while still having a storyline that is compelling enough to continue playing. in my opinion, there isnt much replayability except if youre a completionist, but being that its 3 dollars right now for many hours of fun, id say it was a steal.

I got this game when it was on sale, and right off the bat I was laughing and honestly I haven't played it much but I can tell I will like it. This game is great for gamers that enjoy a comedy RPG game, which there is not a lot of, and I like the graphical design a lot. It also has many refrences to things such as Doctor Who.

I do have the game but i never actually bothered myself on playin it for some reason.
But from what i´ve seen from alot of gameplays, the game is really good, despite the hate comments i see below.
This game was made for people who used to play board games such as Dungeons and Dragons among others (that i seem to have forgotten) back wen there was no computers.
Of course people from this generation will hate it, they got no taste in videogames anymore, for them its all about graphics, guns, sex and drugs.
I am from this generation though, although somehow i like these retro/indie games (dont ask why).
So, i do recommend this game to anyone (especially to old gamers) , and if you grew playing Turn Based Fantasy RPG games such as Final Fantasy, Chrono Cross. Phantasy Star etc etc and i know there are alot here on steam, then buy it, it will be worth it and money well spent.

A really fun game at the start but kinda hard to come back too after a while 7.5 hours of fun gameplay but that's about it.
If you want something to do maybe, but a long term game, not so much

A funny casual game with many references to P&P RPGs. Its origins as a mobile game are still noticeable, but it is fun nonetheless.
