NOTES: The game is still in development. 3/5 acts are complete. Game is short. Price point is high, but the game is good.
Kentucky Route Zero is an interesting game that has done something new in the realm of story telling in video games. While Kentucky Route Zero is technically a game, I would consider it more of a personal interactive novel. Remember in highschool when everyone had to read the same book, only to find that everyone interpreted the same literature in there own unique way? Kentucky Route Zero takes this wonderful attribute of ones personal experience and turns it into a game that is written about their own story. With an interesting art direction, music and the vast amount of dialogue, everyone will ultimately see the game differently. While the "game" is linear in the story, the journey itself can be very complex.
Suggestion on how to play the game: While im not a big advocate on instructing people on how to play any game, I feel this game does need some guidance on how to approach it.
-Dont be afraid to explore
While there is a story line to follow, exploring will ultimately add more to your experience.
-This is a journey
While this feels like an interactive novel, it isnt. From my observation, many people play the game and try to find hidden messages and themes that the developers could have added. Unlike an author that delivers a theme to there novel, based upon the story they provided, Kentucky Route Zero is a story wrritten by you. Your themes that you postulate are created by you.
-Your first play through will be your best
While many fans talk about playing through multiple times to find other hidden clues to the entire story, I feel that it is pointless. As stated before, Kentucky Route Zero is a story wrritten by you. Old people tell the greatest stories of there experiences every time the same way. This is because they exhausted every other way to say it when they were younger and found that the best way was the original.
Hopefully this gives people insight into what they're spending there money on.
