Reviews

“I came away from The Swapper with nothing but amazement. From the first time you see the literally hand-crafted visuals until the final moment in the game, which is sure to give you pause for thought, you will be in complete awe. Brilliant puzzles with even more brilliant solutions compliment the philosophical plotline, leaving an unforgettable experience unlike any other.”
10/10 – Destructoid

“The Swapper tempted me with ingenious puzzles, transported me to a fully realized science-fiction world, and made me ask questions about mortality and morality that few video games have ever dared to explore. Very few puzzle games have ever managed to marry impeccable challenges with a mature storytelling quite like this – there's no fluff or extraneous content here, only a prime example of how to create a tight, unforgettable gaming experience.”
9.3 – IGN

“It didn’t take me long to fall in love with The Swapper; it continuously surprised and impressed me from its intriguing first moments to its fantastic ending.”
9.25 – Game Informer

“The game’s level design is excellent at accentuating a core, the piece you’re nearly certain must be pivotal. It’s the particulars of arranging everything around that piece that force you into this state of constant iteration and experimentation. Think, rethink. Get stumped. Take a break. Go outside. Have some ice crea- wait, no. Pet a dog. Or maybe go for a stroll in the park, because that would- Oh god, now Swapper’s thought process has invaded your mind. You can’t escape.”

"The Swapper" is a unique puzzle platformer with beautiful visuals, a noteworthy, strange atmosphere and a very philosophical story about clones, existence and personal identity.

To solve the puzzles in this game, you have a gun that can create clones of yourself and swap your mind into them, while controlling all at once. With the different lights to block one or both of these abilities and gravity switching fields some of the later puzzles can be quite tricky, but the whole game isn't too hard.

Even though the game feels very valuable, the playtime (at least mine) was definitely too short for that high price. But if you can get it at a reduced price or in a game bundle, I highly recommend playing this game.

Super smooth side-on animations like Limbo, excellent puzzles, and fresh mechanics (cloning and swapping). The art style is very unique (rendered from clay models) and deserving of the accolades, and the soundtrack enhances the barren ship environment. The majority of the gameplay is solving puzzles in rooms with your clone(s) but just navigating around the ship is a fun ride and there is a perfectly implemented map that helps you always know where you are. There is a deeper story that's fairly solid if you let go a little bit, but it doesn't require you to get too "indie philosophical" to enjoy it. The challenges are really rewarding because there isn't any hand-holding. In that way the solutions get harder and edge close to being obscure some times, but they never cross that line and they always prove to be "fair" once you see the answer.
There's just something about the game's style coupled with how effortless and responsive the controls are that make it stand out. If you are looking for something different, this is one of those (critically acclaimed) indie games to put at the top of your back-log list, and one to play before you dive into your next AAA first-person game.

@8hrs & 12h: This magnificently presented, executed and challenging puzzle platformer takes a hold of the player from the very first cut scene and holds on until the last puzzle is solved.

One of the best platformers of the last few years. Beautiful, haunting, deals with concepts beyond the reach of most games and does them justice. A great story with compelling themes, despite it's almost minimalist presentation, and gameplay that is challenging without being unfair or frustrating, leaving you feeling like you've accomplished something each time you finish a particularly difficult challenge. About the only slight I could make against it is that it does not invite repeat playthroughs, at least straight away, still well worth the money and a gaming experience every lover of platformers should try.

One of the most atmospheric and gorgeous games I have ever played. The puzzles are challenging enough and the story unfolds before your eyes. Very few games have been able to nail both of those in my book :)

I think this game is supposed to be really overrated and pretentious or something but I liked it anyway because I'm a mere plebian. The claymation art style is eye candy, puzzles are challenging (I think) story is imaginative (I think, I don't know, I've seen rants tearing it apart but I rarely like things anymore so I choose to stay ignorant), and both of the endings were good, specifically the one where you ____ down a ____ I found to be rather polarizing.

Such a magnificent mysterios awesome game!
The deep story, the really good atmosphere, the absolute beautiful enviroment and the hard-interesting pazzles.
English in this game is pretty difficult so it was hard for me to understand everything.
I recommend this game for those who loves puzzles, space and philosophy(well, who loves to think about deep things)!
It took 5.4hours for me to complete, though it felt like 20hours!
I really wish that you buy and play with game.

I'm not a fan of platformer games but this one was an exception. The visuals, music, and intriguing story was enough to keep me interested. 11/10

A great puzzle game where you create clones and swap places with them. A great feature of the game is the graphics - the envirnment and characters were all created using real-life objects or clay-models, leading to a very pretty art style.

Visually stunning, a very good concept and fun, but I lost interest before the ending of the game. If you like the look of the game, buy it in a sale, but otherwise you can give it a miss.

This game was actually pretty good at what it did, but it is definately not something that you want to get at a full price. I recommend picking it up at half the normal price or so, as it is a short game that while providing a good atmosphere also gets repetitive quickly.

This is good for a casual gamer, is pretty similar to Limbo, because of being a platform, puzzle, adventure atmospheric in which you complete certain task to keep moving forward.
Is a interesting proposal, but as i said before is for casual gamers.
Note, game can become a bit frustrating at times.
I don't recommend this game, cause there is other similar games that will offer you more than this one.

Jank glitchy piece of trash. You've got about a 50/50 chance of this game actually working for you. I've updated EVERYTHING and I still get weird as hell graphical errors when the game starts. Completely unplayable. Devs need to get on their ♥♥♥♥.

An incredibly interesting puzzle platformer. The story is vivid and deep, though maybe it tries too hard at times. I found the feel of the game reminded me Portal, however the gameplay itself was different in almost every way.
Lots of fun, and at times rather challenging. Well worth the time and quite rewarding to complete.

Really fun sidescrolling puzzle game. The swapping mechanic is interesting and novel in a comparable way to the portal gun from Portal. The story is also a good bit of sci-fi. The achievements are impenetrable though, I don't know how you would find them without outside help.
