“I came away from The Swapper with nothing but amazement. From the first time you see the literally hand-crafted visuals until the final moment in the game, which is sure to give you pause for thought, you will be in complete awe. Brilliant puzzles with even more brilliant solutions compliment the philosophical plotline, leaving an unforgettable experience unlike any other.”
10/10 – Destructoid

“The Swapper tempted me with ingenious puzzles, transported me to a fully realized science-fiction world, and made me ask questions about mortality and morality that few video games have ever dared to explore. Very few puzzle games have ever managed to marry impeccable challenges with a mature storytelling quite like this – there's no fluff or extraneous content here, only a prime example of how to create a tight, unforgettable gaming experience.”
9.3 – IGN

“It didn’t take me long to fall in love with The Swapper; it continuously surprised and impressed me from its intriguing first moments to its fantastic ending.”
9.25 – Game Informer

“The game’s level design is excellent at accentuating a core, the piece you’re nearly certain must be pivotal. It’s the particulars of arranging everything around that piece that force you into this state of constant iteration and experimentation. Think, rethink. Get stumped. Take a break. Go outside. Have some ice crea- wait, no. Pet a dog. Or maybe go for a stroll in the park, because that would- Oh god, now Swapper’s thought process has invaded your mind. You can’t escape.”

Whether you like puzzle games or not, you should give the swapper a try. It's wonderful. The game design gives you a weightless feeling thanks to its atmosphere. You really feel lonely in space if it was not for your clones. The graphics are great and the music is fantastic. Some puzzles are a bit hard but not impossible. And once you find the trick it's a genuine reward.

The Swapper is a wonderfully compelling title in which you have special abilities that allow you to solve puzzles.

Like Portal, the central premise asks the question "How do I exist in two different places at the same time?" or "How do I reach the unreachable place?" Where these games differ is that The Swapper takes the answer to this question quite literally. You're given a gun that fires copies of your controlled character. You can have up to four of these copies, and the clones move in tandem with you. If you move one step forward, they move one step forward, and so forth. You can also project your primary control into any one of them, provided you have a clear unobstructed shot at it. Most of the puzzles revolve around this mechanic, as there's usually a task one clone has to perform to get it into a place where you can control it. Only your primary character can collect the orbs that complete the puzzle. What makes these puzzles tricky is that there are different areas that obstruct your various powers, making you think critically to evaluate what your clones will do. For example, red lights will not allow you to project yourself into a clone, so you must either disable the red light with a switch or work around it. Red light areas still allow you to project new clones, however. Blue lights don't allow new clones, but you can project into existing clones. Purple lights don't allow your powers to work at all. Some puzzles use boxes, but most employ the switches that your clones must activate to manipulate the light areas. Later in the game, you encounter gravity pods that create similar scenarios, only with upside down and rightside up clones doing the work. A primary character can only create a clone that is standing as they are, so there's another layer of gameplay.

As you move through the game, there is a dark, foreboding atmosphere. You're thrust into a sci-fi world of moral and philosophical conflict, and the story is told through a reluctant female voice as well as ship logs. The game's visuals are beautifully realized with darkness and light interplaying in interesting ways. Sound design is also uniformly excellent and realy creates this feeling of isolation and dread, yet you still feel this alien presence. I will not spoil the story for you, but I will say that there are some surprising revelations that are not immediately apparent from the outset. The environments are vast so there's plenty to explore. I was reminded of Super Metroid at many times, except there is no combat in The Swapper.

I think the game's controls and gameplay work wonderfully together to challenge the player without frustration. So many indie titles only have their gimmick to fall back on, but The Swapper combines gameplay, visuals, and narrative seamlessly. Even if you fail to understand how to solve a puzzle, there are plenty of puzzles you can solve while you're thinking about the correct solution. I normally get pretty impatient with puzzle games, but every puzzle in The Swapper is fair, logical, and rewarding.

In summary, this is a fantastic game that you should purchase if you have not purchased it already. It has enough content to warrant whatever price you pay for it, and should satisfy even the most jaded indie fans.

"The Swapper" is a unique puzzle platformer with beautiful visuals, a noteworthy, strange atmosphere and a very philosophical story about clones, existence and personal identity.

To solve the puzzles in this game, you have a gun that can create clones of yourself and swap your mind into them, while controlling all at once. With the different lights to block one or both of these abilities and gravity switching fields some of the later puzzles can be quite tricky, but the whole game isn't too hard.

Even though the game feels very valuable, the playtime (at least mine) was definitely too short for that high price. But if you can get it at a reduced price or in a game bundle, I highly recommend playing this game.

Super smooth side-on animations like Limbo, excellent puzzles, and fresh mechanics (cloning and swapping). The art style is very unique (rendered from clay models) and deserving of the accolades, and the soundtrack enhances the barren ship environment. The majority of the gameplay is solving puzzles in rooms with your clone(s) but just navigating around the ship is a fun ride and there is a perfectly implemented map that helps you always know where you are. There is a deeper story that's fairly solid if you let go a little bit, but it doesn't require you to get too "indie philosophical" to enjoy it. The challenges are really rewarding because there isn't any hand-holding. In that way the solutions get harder and edge close to being obscure some times, but they never cross that line and they always prove to be "fair" once you see the answer.
There's just something about the game's style coupled with how effortless and responsive the controls are that make it stand out. If you are looking for something different, this is one of those (critically acclaimed) indie games to put at the top of your back-log list, and one to play before you dive into your next AAA first-person game.

The Swapper is a pure puzzle platformer, you are not going to fight any enemies here. Only "weapon" you have to solve its puzzles is experimental device able to clone the user and swap control between them. Nice visuals and soundtrack make your exploration of vast space station Theseus very deep and atmospheric. However, it's short and has no replayability. Recommended for everyone who likes puzzle platformer games with interesting sci-fi story and lonely desperate atmosphere.

Nice little puzzle game on a space station. You can clone yourself 4 times.
Unfortunately the graphics are very blurry. But the atmosphere is quite good and creepy.
Like thinking stones, talking brains and a huge lonesome labroratory in space.
You must explore the whole map and collect orbs to finally leave it. The only way to die
is to fall down from a high gap. Sometimes there are random astronaut radio chats played.

Such a magnificent mysterios awesome game!
The deep story, the really good atmosphere, the absolute beautiful enviroment and the hard-interesting pazzles.
English in this game is pretty difficult so it was hard for me to understand everything.
I recommend this game for those who loves puzzles, space and philosophy(well, who loves to think about deep things)!
It took 5.4hours for me to complete, though it felt like 20hours!
I really wish that you buy and play with game.

@8hrs & 12h: This magnificently presented, executed and challenging puzzle platformer takes a hold of the player from the very first cut scene and holds their imagination until the last puzzle is solved.

If you're into puzzles, this game is for you.
No agility needed (or at least I can't recall any part that needs it). Only pure logic.
No cross-correlating either, every puzzle is self sufficient and you don't need knowledge acquired somewhere else to solve it.

The story is interesting also, rather philosophical revolving around the "what is a thought?" question. Don't expect a masterpiece that will change the gaming industry in this sense, but it was cool

I just regret that the game was rather short, but I am not 100% sure that adding more content would be a good idea.

One of my favorite Steam games ! Good puzzles, wonderful graphics, good sound and voice-acting merge to a dense atmosphere and a very special experience that is offered by only a few games.

You play as an astronaut on a derelict space station. With the eponymous swapper device you can create up to three copies of yourself and swap between them which is essential to solve the puzzles.

Definitely worth playing !

One of the most atmospheric and gorgeous games I have ever played. The puzzles are challenging enough and the story unfolds before your eyes. Very few games have been able to nail both of those in my book :)

I could write a lot about this game, but lets just say that if you love Braid (mindblowing puzzles and philosophical story), you would definitly like Swapper. Dark and mysterious, beautiful and puzzling, depressive and truly smart. Swapper, Ladies and gentlemen.

What is it?
2D Puzzle platformer

The Good:

+Very creative puzzles and gameplay. You create clones of yourself that follow your every moment. You can also swap to them and take control.

+Puzzles are nicely layered getting progressively harder and require more creative thinking. The puzzles are really well done and solving them feels really nice.

+ Clay graphics and animation really adds to atmosphere

+Surprsingly good story and plot

+ Nice music

The Bad

- Won't be getting any of the achievements without a walkthrough

- Some of the later puzzles are incredibly hard and most likely require a guide

Conclusion:
This is a fantastic game that I kept hearing people rave about and I can safely say that this is a great game and deserves all the praise it gets. You really need to play this game.

Captivatiing Sci-Fi story with some philosophy thrown in, 'stranded in deep space' theme, beautiful visuals, interesting puzzles (one of the late ones is too difficult I think since it requires very fine positioning, others are ok). A unique experience overall.

I just finished this game and WOW, was it amazing. The puzzles instances were progressively challenging (I had spent 4 nights on one particular instance before I succumbed and looked up a guide) and add new mechanics over time. The puzzle I used a guide for was useful because it introduced me to a mechanic I had not even thought of yet.

The atmosphere and soundtrack are both beautiful and fit perfectly with the overall gameplay and story. Although some of the puzzles drove me crazy, there was still a relaxing aspect to playing this game.

The story, wow the story and its philosophical elements were given at appropriate moments in a very smooth way. The ending reveal...I had been thinking of something completely different.

If you like puzzle platformers with a nice story, this game is for you. I was fortunate enough to get it gifted to me, and I in return passed it along to someone else. Short and sweet, definitely worth the price if you want a nice journey.
