Reasons why first Quake is the best current game.
WARNING!:Its not my opinion, its based of facts.(Ignore down votes on this review, its from trolls)
(Also my english is not that good, but i tried,so dont be a ♥♥♥♥.)

1:Defined FPS genre.
As made in the late 1996 by ID software,it was the definer of Doom.Full 3D poligonal graphics (first in fps),soundtrack and many more.
1.1:Quake's engine is one of the most revolutionary engines in history if not THE most, and thats why you should ♥♥♥♥ing respect it.
In 1999 "Half Life" was realeased, its was based on Quakes highly modificated engine version,Half Life defined FPS even more with its second and other parts, then all-famous Counter Strike was realeased which was mod for the first Half Life.
Then CS:S,and now the Counter Strike:Global Offensive which is the most currently famous game (Accept it).
Than Dota,TF2 (which respects quake with his "Original" weapon).
And all this thanks to Quake.
2:Its playable even from 20 years.
You can say that FPS is not your thing, youre wrong!,it is,everyone will play fps no mather what.Quake is playable till this day,If you are saying that im wrong, than you are ignorant ♥♥♥♥ and very selfish.
2.1:People who dont agree with me.
Cmon man,if you dont agree with me than you are complexed and stereotype based dude.
Also you are not respecting classic at all.
Final Words.
Kids,if Quake wasnt realeased when ur dad met your mom,you wouldnt have your favorite CSGO,your favorite DOTA 2,your favorite TF2 (im not saying that tf2s community is kids, its the best from those 3 games.).YOU DONT EVEN LIKE HALF LIFE 2 BECAUSE ITS NOT NEW.If steam was this popular in 1996,it would be the csgo replacer,
Get your facts straight and respect classic kids!.
That's all,you can ♥♥♥♥ off now.

What I liked about the game
• I liked the sci-fi/medieval setting of the game.
• The game was a challenge, even on normal setting.
• I liked the introduction to the game, especially the way you get to select the difficulty of the game. I thought it was unique.
• Plenty of secrets to be found and there are also secret levels.
• The game was addictive, the gameplay was very enjoyable.
• The first episode had a brilliant boss fight.
• I liked the enemies you had to fight, they seemed more alive and dangerous compared to doom.
What I disliked or was disappointed with
• The game has no music playing during the levels like doom did, although that could be something to do with the steam version of the game.
• I was disappointed with the final boss fight.
Conclusion
Quake is a very addictive and enjoyable game, which I highly recommend. If you liked doom, heretic or Hexen, then I recommend this game to you. 80/100

Even this game came out 20 years ago (Holy smokes!), it is still one of the best shooters due to its balance, level design and fast pace. Musthave!
Although the Steam release is not the best, because it features outdated sourceports and lacks the soundtrack. Check out these guides by Johnny Law:

Unfortunately, this game does not run properly on modern PCs through Steam so you'll probably end up having to download a third-party program that can run Quake on current systems. That being said, if you feel like that isn't too much of a hassle and enjoy shooters that contain hours of countless fun, Quake may be the game for you. There are some really cool mods that exist as well which enhance graphics/sound/etc. and add a replay factor to the game. This classic shooter still lives up to its legacy and is sure not to disappoint.

In the 1990s, the first-person shooter was still a new genre to many, and id Software were the kings of the genre. Starting by introducing many to the genre with Wolfenstein 3-D, id created a shooter that had the player running through a 3-D maze gunning down Nazis and killing Hitler, and it was really all people needed in 1992. The next year, id got a little more ambitious and unleashed Doom onto the world. Allowing players more weapons and adding a vertical axis to the game, Doom took gaming by storm, with gamers all too happy to dismember the armies of Hell and play with their friends online (it got so popular many offices had to install programs onto the computers that could prevent people from playing Doom deathmatches because so many people slacked off and went online fragging each other in deathmatch.) Doom got a sequel, which got two expansions endorsed but not made by id, and a collection of levels created by fans of the games were released. It seemed like id had peaked and that there was nowhere else for id to go from here. But then Quake happened.

Quake again redefined what it meant to be a FPS and shocked the gaming world by adding a truly 3-D environment that was filled with all kinds of unique and varying types of enemies. With 4 episodes and 7 levels each, the game is smaller than Doom, but the gameplay is off the hook, balls-to-the-wall, rocket-jumping, grenade-hopping, MADNESS. There's a less overt evil you see in Quake compared to Doom, as these aren't just Demons from hell, they're inspired from H.P. Lovecraft, Edgar Allen Poe, and other classical horror works. While it's lacking in the epic-boss-encounter department, the game is more concerned with being a damn good shooter, and it certainly accomplishes that. I've been playing Doom and Wolfenstein for quite some time now, but Quake is better than both those games and I've only been playing it for about 3 hours, which is saying a lot because I've played over 500 hours of Doom (don't check the Steam hours, I use GZDoom.)

If you like first person shooters, buy Quake. You'd be doing yourself a favor.

Quake is an old, old game. But still a lot of fun- especially thanks to the incredible quantity of excellent mods.
In particular, I recommend enhancing it with the following:
Quoth (essentially a free expansion pack that is absolutely brilliant)
Darkplaces (a new free engine that greatly improves visuals and memory)
Quake Re-texturing project or some other HD texture pack.

In honor of Quake's 20th birthday and Quake Champions announcement, I feel it's relevant to say how great this gem of a game has aged.

As id's leap into 3D, and one of the first truly 3D polygonal shooters I can recall, Quake is still as much fun in 2016 as it was in 1996. The game oozes a dark, eeire and ominous atmosphere, with an interesting blend of gothic fantasy and gritty sci-fi for a really one of a kind look. The 3D graphics, though obviously very dated, are still rather charming. This is too speak nothing of Trent Reznor's fantastic soundtrack, which deeply enhances the creepy atmoshphere.

If you enjoyed Doom 2016, this would be right up your alley. It makes me very happy to say how well Quake holds up.
