Three new maps and two additional gameplay modes, including the Assault Mode released specifically for this version of the multiplayer action title are also included. This game is great, but the community is about as pleasant as a room full of ritalin-addicted toddlers on a massive sugar-high.

Medieval combat with a ferociously steep learning curve; 'War of the Roses: Kingmaker' brings a similar game-style to Mount & Blade while vastly improving on what was a grand template already.

Pitching yourself in battle, there's a huge amount of authenticity and splendor you get while charging through a field with around 25 other players around you. With many weapon choices, each one unique and different to handle, there's plenty within the game to enjoy. Strikes feel viscious and you genuinely feel as if it's your mouse alone making the cuts of your enemy run deep.

In comparison to the more arcade-feel of 'Chivalry: Medieval Warfare', War of the Roses is a realistic battle-simulator, however, that being said: it's definitely a game and by all means it's completely awesome.

Almost all players left are regulars and highly experienced, usually bunched up on one or two servers with 20 - 30 players. Combat is frustrating and imbalanced with clothed peasants wielding pitchforks that insta kill knights in full plate. Janky melee where everyone is constantly running in circles to keep their top speeds for bonus damage and to dodge incoming swings, this looks really silly and isn't very immersive.

You can barely shoot anything moving with a ranged weapon, as your projectile is shot after a noticeable delay dependent on the games/servers mood, add in the fact that everyone is running in circles makes it nearly impossible to lead your shots.

Usually while running in circles you will want to position yourself in such a way, that when your fully charged attack is released your swing begins inside or right before your target, achieving maximum damage potential without delay, giving even less or no time for a parry. Noone will explain this to you. I guess I should also mention that the community is childish and unfriendly. There seem to be a couple of map exploits as well, with snipers shooting from inside buildings. This all adds up to a genuine old school experience, the bad kind.

The developers have also discontinued support, which is the most frustrating issue, the potential is still there and they could really turn things around, but just gave up on it. It's not a bad game, it just needs someone to care about it. All those realistic armor hitboxes and weapon modifications mean nothing when it comes to the imbalance and cheapness in combat. Any "polish" is superficial at best.

So if you feel like sacrificing yourself for the enjoyment of everyone still playing and absolutely love hardcore metagaming, à la a slow jedi knight 2/academy without force powers or rancors, then buy this game now, you masochist.

My new favourite game!! Requires a lot of skills and a powerful computer, but it's totally worth it.

SCORE: 90/100

It has rather steep learning curve but melee is very colorful and deep. The way you have to use every aspect of your weapons(for example pollaxe has cutting, crushing and stabby parts) depending on how heavily armored the opponent is and where you aim. Visors on the helmets obstruct your view but give you better chance to survive that slash to the face, helmets without visors protect your head from sides, back and top but leave your face unprotected, half-plate has good protection for your torso but leaves little to no protection to your arms and legs, chainmail protects only good against slashes or some weaker piercing strikes but give you better mobility, the list goes on.
Squad-Leaders get tactical perks to buff yourself and your team-mates for short period of time and tagging ability so you can mark that annoying, bush-dwelling sharpshooter for your comrades for little extra points when they chop off his/her head. Also they work as mobile spawn points, as long as the squad-leader isn't being directly attacked.

Microtransactions give you instant access to some prettier versions of gear and extragavant dyes, but none of them cost more than you could get in couple hours of frantic shield-bashing and eye-gouging. Only minuses I could think of are very small ammount of maps and unpolished spawning system where you sometimes try to spawn on your squad-leader and instead spawn outside map boundaries or in the middle of frantic melee.

I was skeptical at first because most medieval combat games such as this (Age of chivlary, etc.) are not that great. This game really blew me away though. Great graphics, cool customization, runs well, and fun!

PROS of buying this:
- Better weapons
- You DON'T have to spend actual money to get some decent equipment, you can play the game and earn it that way.
- You can have a bit more fun making custom classes.

- You spend $19.99 on a long deserted game
- As mentioned above, the devs have stopped patching it.
- The OP weapons...
- $19.99

I mean, it's okay but only buy it if it's on sale. It's not worth it. I hate myself now.

Just don't buy this game unless you enjoy getting farmed by rank 60s that tear you apart with peasant weapons...

Don't be fooled. I have almost 60 hours on this game, just not on Kingmaker edition. I'm disgusted by what this game has been turned into. This was one of the pride and joys of my gaming experience 3 or 4 years ago. It was very unique, it took elements from Mount and Blade and really made them it's own. It was a gorgeous game with a lot of good history and accuracy, made by a very caring developer. Now it's absolute garbage. It's entirely dead, they've screwed up the combat system in place. The community is crap. Lierally, the team mates kill each and don't bother helping you up. Basically, this is the left overs of the game that haven't moved on, plus trolls. This game is dead, development is dead, it feels buggier than it did on day 1 and there's hardly anyone on anymore. I'm very sad to see this day. I was once able to recommend it, but I can't do that in good conscience anymore. Stay clear of this landmine.

Havn't been able to play too much but it is a very difficult game. Yeah you start off with crap against players who seem to have it all but it's a bit like Dark Souls or Chivalry when you start out. You suck and your gear is crap but some of the level cap players actually play with weapons that are also crap (just to show that they are skilled and skill is what kills). Give the game a few hours and you will get enough wealth to progress your gear if it helps you survive. I was level 3 and managed to figure out a system to take down level 20's and I suck at most games like this.

It showed potential early on, but none of the glaring issues and weirdness from the beta ever, ever got fixed. The combat was always a clunkier version of mount and blade, and honestly the way armor worked was the best thing the game had going for it.
The devs just repeatedly showed that they didn't care about the game and moved on to other schemes.

Even now, when the game is nearly dead - I still believe it is worth buying - WHEN discounted. It has a solid 4 servers always up with 20-30 people consistantly in no matter what the time is. But as I said, its nearly dead - and its a shame they abandoned it as well as War of the Vikings.
