“La Mulana delivers on a fun, challenging and rewarding exploration experience that is presented with polish.”
Greenlit Gaming

"Beyond the seemingly insurmountable wall of challenge, La-Mulana is a brilliant title that exceeds in just about every category. Art, music, breadth of content, game length -- La-Mulana gets the highest marks. But there's simply no denying that the difficulty, as fair as Nigoro purports it to be, is a major deterrent. If you are willing to suffer, though, you will be blown away. I guarantee it."
8/10 – Destructoid

"Nigoro’s La-Mulana is like Castlevania: Symphony of The Night spliced with Dark Souls. It is long, it is tough, it is involved and it has puzzles that’ll make your brain bleed."
93/100 – Indie Game Mag

"I look back on my time with La-Mulana with plenty of frustration at the challenging platforming, enemies, bosses, and puzzles. But I’m also amazed at the time, thought, and talent that went into creating this experience. There may never be another game like La-Mulana."
8.5/10 – Game Informer

Will you fall prey to deadly traps or unravel the secrets of LA-MULANA?

LA-MULANA is an “Archaeological Ruin Exploration Action Game” in which you search inside ancient ruins, seeking out the “Secret Treasure of Life” – which sleeps in the sprawling ruins of “LA-MULANA” and is said to be the beginning of all civilization. Apart from the plethora of traps lying in wait to stop intruders, there are also monsters on the prowl, protecting the ruins. Head for the innermost depths of the ruins while solving a variety of mysteries, fending off monsters, and disarming traps.
Forging ahead will be no simple task – the further into the depths you reach, the more difficult the mysteries become.

The first run of NIGORO games. Created back in the creators’ “amateur” days and renowned worldwide, it was remade for WiiWare. This is the PC port version.
This game, which originated from the creators’ wish to play the sort of games that enthralled them back in the day – only with more volume – was created based on “that old-time feeling”. The operability and difficulty level are certainly not “new school”. However, this game is highly recommended to gamers seeking out that feeling of total immersion that allows you to go full-on head-to-head with a game not found in somewhat lighter fare.

Please consider this game to be our challenge to you.

Play through the entire game till your fingers bleed, give up and throw it out the window, or get help from strategy guides. The choice is yours.

Not Recommeded doesn't mean the game isn't good.

Now that I finally beat the game, I can say I HATE it.
I tried my best not to.

At first the puzzle is really fun, and it got harder and harder; by harder I mean the game give me less clue for the next puzzle, eventually to the point where I start to randomly do stupid things and hope it trigger some random switch, and I'm pretty certain some of them are clueless, it become more and more unfair I just can't enjoy it anymore.
I spent around 70 hours try to beat this game without reading a guide, to the point I start to hate it; I decided to read some, and then hate it even more.
Some of them even I read the guide I still not quite understand how it works, even in the wiki said you have to read game manual to understand them; that's how unfair it is.
It means if you really want to play a blind-run you have to do something like use some item in every part of the map.

My only advise if you really want to try this game out is; don't restrict yourself from reading a guide too much, it will eventually ruin your fun at some point. If you can't figure something out, and you think you waste too much time trying to solve it, just read some guide, you might end up love the game instead.
I complete 80-85% without a guide and I don't feel proud at all, I just feel stupid, I should've start reading a guide sooner.
These puzzles are not impossible to solve, I know I can do it myself but it would takes 20+ more hours, it's not worth the effort at all.

But as I stated above, this game is nowhere near bad. I'm pretty surprised how detailed it is.
Intersting characters and story, map is interesting to explore at all stage, etc.

A ragequitting simulator. The only winning move is not to play.

Not necessarily my particular cup of tea, but a friend recommended I try this game, and I have to say that this is one of the hardest yet addictive games I have ever played. So with it being on sale this week, I wanted to say that this one is worth every penny.

It's a platform adventure game where you are exploring the ruins of La Mulana, and basically starts you off with very little. So there is a very high learning curve ---- but if you take your time and look around at everything very carefully the secrets will reveal themselves so that you can begin to move forward in the game. Just requires you to be patient.

Controls are tight and very crisp yet demanding, and the art work is excellent.

A very good game that will absolutely consume your time ---- it can be as hard as you want it to be ---- well worth a look, especially at this week's sale price.

If you can somehow figure out the cryptic ♥♥♥♥ this game throws your way, you'll have a good time.
Like, no seriously. This game is great, but how the hell do you figure all that out?

If you enjoy metroidvania style gameplay and absolutely maddening puzzles, this is certainly a game you will enjoy. As much as it made my head hurt from trying to decipher all the cryptic clues and figuring out how to progress, I enjoyed the steep difficulty curve this game's puzzles provided, for the most part. The teleporter mazes can just go die in a fire, along with the penultimate puzzle of the game (and it was toned down from the original version too, so that really says something abou its difficulty), but other than that I had a blast with the game's puzzles. The areas themselves aren't too bad in terms of surviving, but the bosses will push you to the limit of how well you've mastered the game's mechanics and combat. By the time you reach the third boss, the kiddie gloves are off and it gets real tough, real quick.
If you like your games very non-linear with brutal puzzles and some really tough combat, you'll enjoy this game. It's kind of like a 2D Dark Souls in a way, drops you into the ruins with little to no information, and you're on your own from there.
If spending hours retracing your steps looking for what new paths that upgrade you just picked up opened up, or just what that seemingly useless item does isn't something that sounds like a good time, then this may not be the game for you.
