I am sooo excited about this game! I can’t really describe it in words. I am a huge fan of the Dungeon Keeper franchise and when Bullfrog merged with EA, there were no more Dungeon Keeper what-so-ever.
Dungeon keeper was originally released in 1997, this game was an absolute must for anybody who owned a PC at that point.
Like Dungeon Keeper, War for the Overworld requires you to have a good grasp of micromanagement, with players needing to construct a fortified underground kingdom, full of rooms and hideous traps; recruit, train and feed an army of venomous warriors; kill invading heroes, and generally conduct “Dungeon Keeper” type business.
The premise was explained in the title; you were the Keeper of a Dungeon. Monsters would flood to you
Back in the day Dungeon Keeper 2 was released, but was a lesser success, symptomatic of Bullfrog’s sad and general demise of the time, but it was still a fun game with some of the charm and excitement of the first. evil might depending on the size and quality of the dungeon you built and you would use them to face off against heroes and other Dungeon Keepers. The whole game was executed with a wry charm, from the slapping of your Imps to Richard Ridings’ delicious narration and the writing that supported him (‘The Lord of this land doesn’t torture the people of Pleasantville. For some reason.’)
In the latter quarter of 1999, Dungeon Keeper 3: War for the Overworld was announced, but soon cancelled in March, 2000.
Since then we have waited in antici……..pation for our Dungeon Keeper dreams to come true.
Which is why War for the Overworld is exciting and something you should know about. A team of dedicated enthusiasts have decided to make what can at least be described as a ‘spiritual successor’ to the Dungeon Keeper games, one which promises to add to the original’s mythos and gameplay.
Loved dungeon keeper as a kid, pretty exited for this one, but with that writen, the game is still in early beta, and you will be prompted with that fact early by the game, before you even get to start, for good reason, still many glithes, stupid camara locking, forcing you to watch stuff that soon runs out of the picture followed by a comeplete game crash, and many other things, this only being my first experience with the game, so sure i'll recommend this game, because I know it has something to give in the furture, so if your not a hardcore Dungeon Keeper then this game should not be played before the original release.
