About This Game

What happens when DLC practices go too far? An indie developer makes a game that mocks the industry and its foibles, that's what! Defeat the bad guy, save the world and get the girl! But first you'll need to find coins to buy DLC to enable animation, sound and even pausing.

Thankfully this is just satire and all the DLC is purchased with in-game coins. But consider it a cautionary tale for the future...

Key Features:

  • Two full length campaigns: the original award-winning "DLC Quest", and the brand new "Live Freemium or Die"
  • Platforming action! Coins to collect, a princess to save, a bad guy (or two) to defeat. You like that stuff, right?
  • Over 30 different DLC packs, each providing quiet introspection on the state of the gaming industry
  • Over 20 achievements to earn and make you feel reasonably satisfied with yourself
  • Online leaderboards

>stroll into my local GameStop
>looking to pick up a copy of DLC Quest
>grab the game and take it to the charming maiden at the register
>"Pardon me, milady...but could you ring me up? A shame I don't have your number or I'd ring you up instead..."
>she giggles and takes the game, blushing as her fingers brush mine due to my fingerless gloves
>her eyes widen as she reads the game's title
>"Wow, I've never seen anyone buy this before! You must have special taste!"
>I smile and ready a witty response when suddenly a voice rings out from behind
>"Hahaha look at what this ♥♥♥♥♥♥ is buying! That's not Call of Duty! What a piece of ♥♥♥♥!"
>I quickly turn around, my cloak billowing behind me, to discern the source of the rude outburst
>generic dudebro caricature with a sports team cap and "the guy that beat you up that one time behind the school in early October" shirt is standing there guffawing
>"Excuse me sir...you may disparage my person if you wish, but it is untoward to swear in front of a lady."
>"♥♥♥♥ you ♥♥♥♥♥♥!"
>I smile quietly and tip my fedora low across my eyes, concealing them
>"As you wish..."
>I quickly swing my cane into his kneecap before he can react
>he bellows and charges forward
>I expertly sidestep him and the cashier screams as he crashes into the counter
>I draw my sword-cane and mutter a quiet oath as I drive it deep into his back
>"...requiescat in pace..."
>As I clean my blade the girl walks out from behind the counter, twirling her hair with her fingers
>"So...maybe you'd like to come over to my place to play that game sometime...?
>"No thanks, milady, it's single player only. Besides..."
>I sheath my sword
>"You're not my type."
>skate away on my Heelys

DLC Quest is a satire that makes fun of modern-day companies that rely on DLC's and "F2P" games that require you to buy everything from it to be able to actually play it. The humor is a nice addition. Story is somewhat short, but you can continue it on an in-game DLC chapter.

>I'd give it a 7/10
>Pros: Solid gameplay, retro graphics, humor, inexpensive(price matches content)
>Cons: Might stumble upon annoying parts, short, best to buy on sale, might not entertain as long as other games.

This is a such a funny game. In less than an hour I finished the main plot, but oh dear this made me smile all the time. It's a really nice satire to all those DLCs.

At the start you can't even go to the left, you don't have animations, no sound and you can't pause the game. But later you can do everything. From getting a hat to shooting everybody to death.

The humor in the game is just brilliant. I love it. There a signs everywhere that tell you what to do. So for example there is a dead end in a cave, so there is a sign: "Dead end." Just next to it: "No seriously, go back."

The people to talk to in the game, or even a horse, are also quite hilarious. One person sais: "I don't have anything relevant to say at this time. I'll play an important role soon, but you don't know that yet."

The cutscene at the beginning of the game is so bad it's really hilarious. The story of it. Haha. No words.

There is a lot more humor in this game. But you have to figure that out yourself.

Also, don't murder the sheep for no good reason.

One of the most amazing indie platformers I've seen yet.
The mechanic of this game is awesome and funny at the same time.
If you want about 2 hours pure fun and are person who will always try to find everything this is your game.
As i said it's rather short, but it's certainly worth its money.
Sadely no replayability.

This is how Evoland should have been! Given there's not much content overall, but what is there is charming and well done. You get a few good laughs out of the game too. For the price there's no reason not to give it a try :)

Simply brilliant.

Short, but also really cheap. Achievements are easy to get; most of them at least.
These factors alone make it ideal for those achievements hunters out there.

Amusing music, and suitable graphics. But don't expect too much in the technical department.
Its core, of course, are the hilarious references to the industry. References which -far from tiring- gave me an enjoyable and funny ride through the entire game.

And when you have gotten enough, leaderboards add competitiveness for enhanced replay value.
It seems the first campaign can be finished in less than nine minutes!

Given the price, achievements, trading cards, and laughs I can't help but recommend this title!

It's a nice play on the current video game market and it has some great humour,
however, after finishing the game there's no feeling of accomplishment or anything.
It's a game you install and play once and never touch again.

TL;DR

Funny humour, but not worth your time.

If you've got an hour, or two to kill, then it's a mildly-amusing pixel adventure. However, mildly-amusing is being generous.

The game's gimmick is a satirical look at DLC by providing game elements for the price of in-game coins, while not actually creating that much of an enjoyable experience for the player. Save your money on this one.
