About This Game

What happens when DLC practices go too far? An indie developer makes a game that mocks the industry and its foibles, that's what! Defeat the bad guy, save the world and get the girl! But first you'll need to find coins to buy DLC to enable animation, sound and even pausing.

Thankfully this is just satire and all the DLC is purchased with in-game coins. But consider it a cautionary tale for the future...

Key Features:

  • Two full length campaigns: the original award-winning "DLC Quest", and the brand new "Live Freemium or Die"
  • Platforming action! Coins to collect, a princess to save, a bad guy (or two) to defeat. You like that stuff, right?
  • Over 30 different DLC packs, each providing quiet introspection on the state of the gaming industry
  • Over 20 achievements to earn and make you feel reasonably satisfied with yourself
  • Online leaderboards

A cute 3-6 hour commentary on games and DLC. Backed by a fun platformer. Nothing too crazy but interesting enough for a few bucks.

I'll keep this review short. This game took me about the time you see here (about 30 minutes, plus maybe some offline time) to fully complete the game, without the expansion. I would recommend this game to anyone because of its low price, fun platforming elements and a theme based around the shady practice of selling everything as DLC.
This game is often on sale and I suggest you get it then, but the base price is quite fair for the amount of time you spend on it.

It satires DLC practices pretty effectively. I had quite a few laughs playing through this. It's pretty cheap too so give it a go.

This game can be beaten in about 20 minutes with no replay value. It's a good reflection of the state of the games industry, but don't expect much from it.

It's a pretty funny game and it does incapsulate some of then newer mottos of a few games where you need DLC to fully exerince the game itself, though this game you earn in game money to buy DLC to finish it, plus there is a lot of little jokes about the gaming community itself, so I think this game has a lot worth looking at and enjoying when you have a few hours of down time. :)

Really short, but this means you will not be bored. The game succeed in being funny the two hours it lasts. If you expect more content, pass your turn; if the density of humour appeals to you, go ahead.

Review in a Few: https://youtu.be/HA74jOlkl-U

DLC Quest is a side scrolling platformer with unique DLC mechanics, because who likes owning the entire game they just paid full price for? With a strong dose of marketed satire, DLC Quest pits you on an adventure of how much money you can drain from your virtual credit card. Starting off with a basic game of sprites, you have to earn your rights to a decent game through its DLC.

When you first start the game you have nothing but a forward movement key, and you must earn your abilities, animations, graphics, sound track (which is great), and even sound effects… Not including micro transactions for cosmetics! This results in you constantly having to use your wallet to unlock more and more gameplay, a solid progression system that never leaves you feeling lost. With a heavy early gaming era influence on modern day tropes, it’s a solid comedic game that has you defeating bad guys and saving the world to get the girl.

Also included in your purchase of the main title is the free DLC ‘Live Freemium or Die Trying’ to give you an experience of cash shop whales in a freemium game. And boy is it nice to be a whale. Including more puzzles, more unique NPCs, more DLC to buy, and even more ladies to rescue, a solid edition to continue the rather short adventure through DLC Land. Oh and it includes zombies.

Overall, it’s definitely worth picking up if you enjoy a rich satire experience, solid controls, Mario-esc gameplay with guns, and constantly purchasing new DLC like cosmetic horse armor. DLC Quest is a game worth playing through twice, even if it’s only two hours long.

Would certainly recommend it for a cheap laugh, you might be surprised at how great a game it is! Can be had on sale for 59 cents, if $3 is too steep.

Pros: Humor, Sound Track, Graphics, Controls, Puzzles, Story…
Cons: SO MUCH DLC!.. Seriously? $200 for horse armor!? Wait, that’s not really a con in this case.

The concept and the humour of this short little indie game is pretty good, I'll give it that. It keeps throwing jabs at the state of the gaming industry nowadays with the stupid need for DLC everywhere.

Sadly, I find the overall gameplay quite dull and boring, which is pretty much just walking from point A to point B and doing different stuff now and then, like attacking enemies or....You know, jumping. At least the game's quite short.
